Here for the organic fun! Looks like you’re off to a great start! I loved running the Gaia with promix and my other amendments. Always got great results only changed it up recently but won’t be ditching any of my mix notes anytime soon!

Yes, Gaia is great!
I have been playing with their products a bit in the last couple years, trying to perfect mixes as simple as possible. I feel they recommend more than needed for cannabis but I’m still looking for the right balances.
I run slight variations of the same mix with my photo periods and auto flowers and I’m going a little lighter than usual with these Sudanese.

For my most recent change I stopped adding mycorrhiza to any of them because the Promix has it and it seems to be enough.

I am pretty happy with the veg stages but feel maybe it could use a boost during flower, something along with the Gaia power bloom.

Did you add much else in bloom?
What have you switched to now?

Just a brief update today.

The plants looked a little big for their cups and were getting thirsty more frequently. I usually grow photos longer in the solo cups but these may flower if they become even slightly root bound, so I want to stay ahead of things.

I would have liked to up-pot to 5 gallons but don’t have the space right now so 3 gallons will have to do.
The roots were good and not bound but looking for more space. They all got up-potted and watered and seem happy enough for now.

So, just a couple days shy of five weeks and one of the males revealed his self. I don’t normally enjoy that sort of thing, but since this is partially a breeding project, I was happy to see those balls hanging!

A few days later one of the females showed me her hairs,…also happy to see them!

They still seem fairly uniform, some slight differences in structure and leaf shape but not much.

I have separated the male out to the detached garage and I’ll do my best to collect the pollen when he’s ready.

Hoping for a few more males for variety and also to give me back some much needed space in the veg room. It’s currently slightly overpopulated by another project I have going breeding auto flowers, only 3 males out of 10, maybe a fourth still TBD. It’s awesome getting 7 out of 10 females for bud, not so awesome for a breeding program where (auto regular) pollen is difficult to find. Hopefully I don’t get such a high female account with the Sudanese, I would be happy with 3 to 5 females, or just 1 or 2 awesome phenos.

Almost all plants have shown their sex now and I am looking at five confirmed females, four confirmed males and one TBA but most likely male.

So the fourth male finally showed for sure and I moved him out to the garage.

Here’s a couple more recent pics of the females after I pulled that male out.
They seem to be leaning a little more to sativa now that they’re bigger but still don’t look pure to me.

That said, they seem very uniform, and their very balanced growth reminds me of auto flowers. I would say I saw a little more variety in growth in the males.

They are in 3 gallon bags at the moment because I didn’t have enough soil to do 5 gallons at the time. They will be up potted to 5 gallons when I feel they’re outgrowing these bags.

Since these plants are in 3 gallon pots I’m a little concerned they might get root bound soon, so I’m going to flower them sooner than later. I will just top dress for flower, not my usual approach but I’ve done it before and it works OK. I also usually grow a little bigger before going into the flower room, but these are not for my every day smoke, they are more of an experiment so maximizing yield is not as important here as documenting yields.

The girls all got a trim yesterday and I took a clone off the top and bottom of each plant. The clones went straight in the bubbler.

Drooping clone on bottom right corner was originally in upper left corner, where there’s a dead spot inside the bubbler. I think I moved it too late though.

I got a couple pics of the males today, the shortest one started flowering about a week or two before the others and is currently dropping small amounts of pollen.

You can see a big variety in the male leaf structures, some far more Indica looking than others. The females are fairly uniform and seem a little more sativa leaning, but these are definitely not pure sativas.

I’m not complaining, from the descriptions given by Angus they were meant to be shorter and bushier and start and finish far faster than your average sativa, therefore unlikely to be similar to or as pure as more tropical sativas.

Perhaps Indica was bred into the strain 2000 years ago, in which case I would still consider it a landrace as long as the locals simply did selective harvesting, essentially selective breeding in the wild. If the Indica was introduced more recently, then I got burned.

I’d be interested in anyone’s opinions regarding how Indica or sativa they look, and especially from anyone else who’s grown them in the past or currently.

Regardless, I’m going to pollinate them and grow them to the end to see how they finish and see if any of the mothers are worth keeping.

From what I’ve seen on the descriptions, a lot of of them say the Phenos can range from sativa to Indica, hi CBD to high THC, tall and lanky, too short and stocky, etc.! Mother nature has been crossing them for millennia! Via wind, bird, bugs, animals, and even man transporting seeds for food! So unless they are growing on the Galapagos, mother nature has crossed them! And probably even there! And growing them indoors is bound to have some little effect on them! When it comes to the land races, it’s all about, shake, rattle, and roll, baby! Conformity and standardization aren’t on the menu!

I hear you! Who knows what happened? But it happens all the time on this site! Usually somebody crowing about their huge plant until a mother nature lowers the boom on them in late September and they fall off the face of the Earth!
