I grew my hair and beard out of protest when I worked in the customer service end of automotive repair. I had an over abundance of customers who preferred to work with me over others and even had people change locations when I transferred to other locations. Hit budget 95% of the time and ran stores for incompetent managers for four years. I basically pissed fucking excellence, but was constantly asked to trim my beard and hair. My response was always the same. Does it affect my ability to perform my job, and would you even consider asking a female employee to do the same?
Been about twelve years since I had short hair and a trimmed beard. Fuck societal norms and expectations. My physical appearance has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of my character and everything to do with what I think about fitting in.

Lol there's a government research facility in Hawthorne and there's a government research facility in Livermore. Hawthorne is where pilots approaching LAX swore up and down they spotted a guy flying around with a jet pack, on more than one occasion.
