That’s pretty cool, I live in the flight path of a national guard refueling wing of Pease Airforce Base, which up until the clinton administration was actually a Strategic Air Command base. That shift from being a thriving airbase to being a training center for air national guard was pretty drastic. The airfield once was a back up landing zone for space shuttles if conditions weren’t favorable for reentry in Florida or California. Now the Airforce shares the runway with civilian aircraft and commercial aircraft. I’ve developed an ear for all of the different planes that come and go in the area. We still get some cool fighter jets that’ll come in once a month on training missions. But nothing like the old days. Where it was common to see F111’s , F4’s, A10’s B52’s, C130’s,C5’s, and KC135’s.
