Not bad luck. He wasn't in it for the money. He wanted to improve the quality of the cannabis he smoked. He liked getting high and his goal was to improve and create superior genetics. Those Dutch seed companies that were sending seeds to the US were breaking the law. They were willing to take the risk because they were making millions selling seeds for $10 a pop. Sam just wanted to do his thing without being harassed so he went the legal route and got permits which allowed him to breed for selective cannabinoids. He bred the first high CBD variety and others that were high in other cannabinoids. He didn't want the celebrity or to make millions. That was never his goal. He just wanted to be happy and that he was.
I respect that his goal was to make some dam good weed, but putting an ad out for seeds, doesn't look like he wasn't trying to make money. You can tell his passion for it in every interview out there. At least the ones I've seen or heard. A pioneer for sure. I also dig Shanitibaba story as well, still has his library up for grabs decades later. I don't have a dog in this little controversy, don't even entirely understand it.
