I mean, I have to move them to get as much sunlight on them as possible. I'm in the city, got bldgs around me that block my backyard. The very most sunlight I can get on them is about 10.5 hours.

eta; interesting you don't feed. Everyone seems so hig hahaha accidental pun on feeding throughout.
If you use tiny pots you have to feed! I re-amend over the winter and plunk the plants into 35 gallon! There’s usually enough juice in there to get them through a whole grow! I’m a lousy cook! I start feeding and they start fading! Lol!✌️ in the outdoor world, 30 and 35 gallon pots are considered small! And it helps me limit the size of the plant! I’m not in this for trees! I’m in it for the finish line!

Yeah, your environment presents a lot of challenges that need to be overcome! As it gets later in the year, you will probably get less and less sunlight! Chasing the sun is a drag! You will learn a lot about it this year, and can apply your knowledge next year! A lot of stuff out of your control in that environment! Adapt and overcome! 😆🍻

You advised nothing less than 7 gallon pots. I have a couple in 10 gallon pots as well, Damn, you must get some big, beautiful buds with 35 gallon pots!

Eta: I also got the tan colored fabric pots you suggested.

I grow in a hot dry hell hole! Have to use that size to keep the roots cool! And to feed them for a whole grow! Small plants! Probably average a pound dry! But they are easy to maintain! I am old so easy to maintain is a big deal! Lol! Just adapting to my environment! Just like everyone else! Sometimes it takes a year or two of getting your ass kicked to figure it out! It did me! I better go out back and check on the girls! I’m sure they’ll be happy but maybe looking for a little Agua!😁 keep fighting the good fight! And post a few pics if you can!

Have a good one, Chucky. Will post pics. Thanks!

How about putting your plants in a wagon, to move around in the yard.

Just set your 30 gallon down on a dolly. But if you're going over grass one of those wagons with the big knobby tires would be a cheaper alternative than replacing the castors on a flat dolly to something that will go across grass. A set of four would set you back $80 at Harbor Freight. You can probably tell how far down the rabbit hole I'm thinking this one. 🤣

I'll tell ya, my backyard is so small, it's not a problem. My current issue is waiting to see if they get enough sunlight and air in the tents that I bought. That and feeding them--what they need at what stages. Right now they look pretty good--I'll post some pics later in the day. Thanks very much for the suggestion, I really appreciate it.

II was late to start so I ended up buying clones instead of seeds. I had some trouble (self-caused) early on and lost a couple, but the rest have mostly rebounded. I got a tent for each one about a week ago and so far it seems they're getting enough light and air, but I know it's very early.
ETA: Any observations or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've only done this once before and not with very good results. I'm hoping to just get some good herb--the quantity isn't that important--I know I have a small grow here--I hope these photos will do. If not, please let me know and I'll take some more.

Gush Mintz 1:-- Topped once only

Gush Mintz 2: -- Was a long, leggy plant so i bent the top all the way over and
attached to the pot.

Medellin:
Not topped.

Applescotti: Topped once, maybe too late.

Applescotti

Nimbus Snacks:
Had a mishap when transplanting and snapped the main stem in half.
Just transplanted what was left so it's smaller than the rest.

When trying to LST two branches snapped. It's gone into early flower since.

Those look great…I think you may have undershot with the screen sizes tho and might outgrow them.

You are so right! I thought I could keep 'em small enough, but a couple are already pushing at the sides and one is at the top. But, one thing I noticed since I've been using them the past couple days, is the one big one I have (4ft by 28 x 28 inches) is a tighter mesh than the others, and right now, I don't know if that's good or bad. I'm leaning towards "it's bad." And I haven't found the ones i have in a bigger size.

Honestly, I don’t think you need them till a couple weeks in to flower…I’ve used cheap netting like these in the past…I use BT now as I probably mentioned.

I used Bt on them once or twice right away, but haven't since. Is it okay to use BT on flowers?

If I can find a big enough size in the ones I like, I might buy a couple.

Unrelated, but I haven't fed them much so far, but i have the stuff now. I also read on here how important Calcium and Magnesium are, so I bought Fox Farm's, Do you think it's okay to use that along with their other stuff?

I don’t use it till I see moth eggs and that’s usually a couple weeks into flower, then once a week till they’re close then I stop for about the last two weeks. So maybe 4-5 times. I don’t have any info on its safety as far as smoking, but at least it isn’t a chemical, it’s more like slightly dirty water (at least that’s what I tell myself)…the day I chop I usually mist the plants and shake em and do it again because being outside there’s already a lot of dust floating around so they’re dirty and they get a little shower which hopefully would help wash away any residue as welI…it does not affect the taste, smell, smoothness, or potency in any way that’s noticeable to me.

And those plants are really healthy looking, I wouldn’t give them anything until flower at this rate…cal mag isn’t usually needed when in soil, mostly for soilless media…I’d wait till they ask for it, yours are tellin, they ain’t askin 👊

Thank you so much for the welcome. And thanks to everyone for such generous responses. It will take me a minute to absorb all this -I admit it's a lot for me to take in since not only am I knew to growing cannabis, I've never been much of a gardener of anything. But, yes, retired, and tired of paying 30 some % in taxes at the dispensary.

As for the size and material of the pots, I've got clay pots that I believe are 12" in height. I was thinking about trying to get some feminized seeds, maybe one sativa and one indica. Are there certain strains that are more pest resistant?
Yes! Highly recommend that you read through the various listings in the seed company websites. Reading closely, you will find some that specifically say they are hardy and pest resistant. There are so many. I'm growing Fat Mazzy from Homegrown and Royal Moby from Royal Queen (?) And both were said to be pest resistant and so far (9 weeks into veg) there are no bugs or other pest problems. Still have to keep your guard up especially when they get into flower! Look for early signs like caterpillar turds on your buds, and peel those buds open to extract those devils!! You can't undo the damage, but you can keep it from spreading.

And I do have a tendency to overdo things. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.
