We have a great plant. It’s got dozens of colas and hundreds of buds. It’s a few days from harvesting. Some tendrils are browning. But we found a few mouldy buds!!! Advice needed.
Harvest early?
Don’t worry?
What can we do?

If you have high humidity and are expecting high humidity play it safe and save what you can

That's rough.😞
If the conditions that created the pm can not be changed your choice will be to harvest what you can and get what ya can.
If it was a cold front with high humidity that is gone now get some air on it and hope.
We just had rain for 5 days and now 5 days of weak sun and clouds with no rain. Lots of guys were thinking this same thing.

If it’s straight up bud rot for no apparent reason I’d consider chopping early…if it’s insect damage that has rotted, I’d prob just cut it out and let it ride.

I am currently trimming fan leaves off my plants and have found many moldy bud sites. I cut them out, then treat the stem with a 50/50 mix of iso alcohol and water. I use a q-tip but others spray. If you do not treat the stem, the mold will girdle(grow all the way around) it and kill whatever is above the spot. Sometimes the mold is location specific, sometimes the plant is weak. Keep an eye on it and cut when necessary. JMHO

True that....but if I have a cut on my foot, I'm sure not walking thru shite, even though it " Might" be safe.

Understand. And you're right, the Septoria that is devastating my grow is strain specific, but, can also be transferred to other plants and infect them as well. And has. Noticed the grass under the infected weed has also developed Septoria spots. 🙁

My partner thinks it might be insects. The bud is dark brown/black inside and it seems to have disintegrated. There is no white or grey. How can we tell which it is?

A pic of the bud, good lighting, would be helpful.
Caterpillars can burrow into buds and live there, eating and pooping. Mold follows.

I've chopped it all out now - it was only a few buds - so no pic! It doesn't seem to have spread so I think it was an insect.

It sounds like bud rot or pm not insects

That you had other veg with pm makes it most likely pm

Be very careful if your not going to try a bud wash as what may seem good may not be

You can easy collapse a lung with mold so be seriously careful in what you smoke
