Ive got a very similar moisture meter. With them at that depth I water around 5-6 moist.

Take that with a grain of salt. I dont use the meter everytime but when Ive used it before watering Ive noticed it reading in the middle of moist.

Uh, I've never done lst to so small a plant. Shouldn't it be taller?
Then again, I'm used to outdoors where the wind tended to do it for me. LOL

You see how late I start mine. Until you have leafs covering other leafs LST is not effective unless you are steering a main stem in a certain direction . An auto does not need a 2 foot sideways pull you will run out of stretch before it gets there. This was the 3rd lesson autos taught me when I got my first 2 plants stuck with a top over here and a top over there ......

Im interested in others thoughts. Referencing the side closeup pic. That is close to when I started training my GMO. More towards that 3rd node being established. Autos have a short window for training so I start earlier. You could just do it on 1-2 and play with it. No harm in having some fun experimenting.

Outdoor sun moves across the sky indoor light is only directly above.they have not evolved for that you have to help it

The training also manipulates hormones and forces lateral growth.
I would argue that the light manipulation from training moves the plant due to hormones. This does not happen much when you are at node 3 or 4. The plant is still getting a very level light pattern and I believe at that point hormones are triggered by new growth not light parity.

Plants are looking great! You got plenty of time before LST will be beneficial since you have a lot of room in that tent and no secondary branches to move around.

It's really all about how strong the stems are. Easier to manipulate newest growth instantly to where you want it, but old growth can still be trained, just needs to be little increments over time. You can also train the plant at any time throughout its life, it is just not recommended to add stress during early flower. Doesn't mean you can't, just more risk of herm.

Copy and paste because I would butcher the explanation.

How LST manipulates auxin

Low-Stress Training involves bending and securing a cannabis plant's stems to alter its shape. This technique works by disrupting the plant's natural hormonal balance, which is controlled by light.

  1. Breaking apical dominance: The hormone auxin is primarily produced in the main cola (apical bud) and travels downward, suppressing the growth of lower branches.
  2. Redirecting auxin: By bending the main stem, LST changes the distribution of auxin, reducing its concentration at the apex. This promotes more vigorous growth in the side branches, leading to a bushier, more uniform canopy with multiple colas instead of just one.
  3. Encouraging horizontal growth: LST forces the plant to grow more horizontally, exposing more potential bud sites to light. This redistribution of resources encourages more even bud development across the plant.

I totally agree on how it works. I just do not agree on needing to train a plant still in 3 finger mode.
My bad for over explaining. Misunderstanding there. Thought you were saying the extra light exposure manipulates the hormones.

train a plant still in 3 finger mode.
Tabbed back over to check in and realized I kinda read over this. Sometimes its the smallest thing that sets off a light bulb upstairs. I know about 3,5,7,9 finger leaves. I believe it based on maturity and health? or just maturity? The light bulb is that Im still learning to read the plants and I never considered looking at the number of fingers that early. Thanks.

Spent the day harvesting my last outdoor girl
First time for me seeing one of your outdoor grows. Beautiful!
Northern Lights Autos
Hadnt noticed your strain. I just ordered some regular NL1 seeds for my first photo grow. Im excited! They are suppose to be some OG genetics from the 80s but I didnt put in a lot of time checking that claim.

I see what you did there @EternalSun.

I have well water and soften it. What do you recommend?
Do you have a tap before the softener? And have you had the water from the well tested? If you know your waters mineral content and ph then you can adjust your feeding based on the info on the well water, not softened water...if need be.

So, I just got a pool type PH tester, you know, the tiny test tubes and the 3 drops of solution.
The unsoftened well water with a pinch of Jack's fertz. registers 7.5. So I'm gonna use that instead of the RO water.
Wait, maybe I'll give 2 the RO water and 2 the well water. hmmmm

They're still growing and no BBQ today!
