This is my friends (older) grow, he gave me a good bit to try since he had just harvested a new batch (appreciate him), but I noticed these strange bulbs that look nothing like trichomes to me. I’m using to seeing mold either as white fuzz in the center of buds or as like black sludge, never as grey trichome head shaped blobs.

i have awful sense of smell, can’t tell based on the smell if anything’s off. By the way thank you in advance, hope I can be a beneficial member of this forum

No sir, it’s all of the flower, I think it’s like 9 months old, was kinda dry honestly. I was gifted just over an ounce from my friend. Honestly smells just like any other bud does to me to be honest, nothing funky, but than again I have an awful sense of smell

Hey scootch, im not going to “advise” you smoke anything questionable. With that said… I’ve smoked some shit that was definitely questionable : )

At the end of the day, that shit could be perfectly fine to smoke. But if you aren’t feeling. Then youre not feeling it.

I’ve smoked some pretty questionable stuff too! Matter of fact, there wasn’t any question! Lol! What is this film you speak of? In my experience, dry, mold powderises with the slightest touch and wet, moldy product will be mushy and slimy! Good luck with it!

Use all your senses when inspecting. Give it a look for any visual anomalies, especially grays and blacks. Give it a smell. Mold will wreak havoc on terpenes. give it a listen. Do the stems have a good snap? Buds should be like a slightly crunchy memory foam. Squeeze it and it should give like a firm marshmallow and should slowly return some of its original shape after being squeezed.

Secret Service agents are trained to study real money, not look for fake money, so they know the intricate details of real money and they can much easier spot fakes. Inspecting your buds is like this. Learn all the check marks that indicate healthy bud and if it fails any of your quality tests, don't smoke it. You don't want to risk catching fungal pneumonia.

Those are all over! I have them circled w white lines on the pics. Idk they kinda could pass as trichome but the color is off and how they’re clustered too. The smell is fine, so confused. Nothing lie I’ve ever seen becore

Same. I’ve seen moldy herb. But nothing like this before.

All those pics are dark, more light try flash, if that bud is brown and smoshey and flakes off its mold it doesn't feel or look right when breaking it up , outdoor grows watch out for mold.

Wait so the gray blobs I circled look like they could be trichomes? Here’s another angle, I circled in blue the grey “blobs” that look really off to me, pic #1 is not a close up shot.

Idk the gray bubbles, that almost look like trichomes are throwing me off.

The smells fine (my sense of smell is bad), and nothings mushy or oddly soft.

First pic awesome, Man honestly dude I think that brown spot in that bud is mold, don't worry about the trichomes break it in half or four pieces inside will tell all if mold ?

take better pics
list the last 3-6 weeks of environment
provide enough pertinent info, pics, feed rates & schedules
media and above all else your watering frequency

there should not be any issues if indoors, if you control the environment and control feeding there should not be any worries as to health of the plant or finish prod. if plant is properly nourished it will have a resistance to issue as far as genetics will allow.

what to do now:
if it is your first grow, and/or are unsure and you have confidence in your environment /gear let it finish to the point further investigation is satisfied and like a grower said here do not smoke unless it has checked all the boxes otherwise, discard, take cuttings; if in flower my cut off is 3 weeks.

can you dry and cure?
lets say the standard for dry and cure is 60F60%14days in tent. Can you hold this standard?
reason for this is mold, if you are trying to hack a step it might /it might not work

understanding the gear, you are using and how you calibrate is paramount. if you are worried about mold then your environment, as she stacks each layer will have staked mold less, when you check crack cola open and check.

This looks like dry bud rot to me.
Break it open, see what's inside.

If color looks like rest of bud, it could have been allowed to be in light, and bleached out. But it sure looks like rot that got missed during cure. Or stored too wet.

Would u mind circling the spot for me that you thinks dry bud rot? If it’s the same spot I’m concerned about, I cracked the bud and nothing looked off on the inside.

Everything I’m concerned about has been on the surface of the buds, it has me concerned there’s like some surface mold. I circled the area that’s freaking me out in white, and the blue circles are around the blob/balls on the plant that kinda looks like a trichome, but really doesn’t.

Pictures can be tricky. Honestly it doesn't look off to me. Looks like darker purp sugars so one reference would be to see a Pic of the plant when it was alive. Also something to note, cannabis resins turn a carbon color with some strains. We had someone a couple months ago finding hard black chunks in calyxes of living buds... a strain called Carbon Fiber does that. This is why I say don't rely on any one sense when inspecting, because you can wind up writing off good bud or smoking bad but that just looked a little off that you would have known was rotten if you just gave it a little pinch.
