Hello all,
Total newbie here. Sorry for such a long post.
I’m growing Blackberry Kush indoors using 2 Aerogarden farms 24xl. What a huge learning process. You all have my total respect. Anyways the plants look great. Already flipped them to flowering stage and the 6 plants all have flowers/buds on them. 3 months in so far.
My ultimate goal is just to make edible gummies for wife and me. Here’s what I plan to do next so if there is anything wrong or suggestions from here out on what I think is right please please let me know. So after trichromes are the right color I will cut and dry the buds (wet trim first) upside down for about a week. Then I will break up the buds and grind them to decarboxylate. Spread out on a baking sheet lined with parchment or tin foil. Bake at around 210 degrees for around 20 to 40 minutes checking not to burn but until light brown. Now here’s where I want to be real sure. I want to make cannabis infused coconut oil. So one says to take 35 grams or about 3/4 teaspoon of the decarb weed per 1 cup of oil and simmer for almost 3 hours stirring occasionally. Another guy said 1 cup of decarb cannabis for 1 cup of oil. That seems outrageous but I want to be sure. So what is it??
So my end game is to have 5mg thc per gummy. I have 4 molds that make 100 gummies at 4ml per gummy. The recipe I found is .5 cup cannabis infused oil, .5 cup water, 3oz flavor gelatin, 2tbsp unflavored gelatin, and .5 teaspoon of sunflower lecithin.
So here’s what I copied and will paste as follows:
If you're looking for a rough estimate of how strong the gummies will be, consider how strong the weed oil you used is. If you used 3.5 grams of cannabis that has 20% THC, then each teaspoon of oil will contain about
14 mg of thc.
Doing some quick math, considering that this recipe calls for ½ cup of coconut oil, that's 24 teaspoons of oil, and 24 teaspoons with 14mg each equals a total of 336mg THC for the whole batch of gummies.
Considering that the recipe calls for 20 small-to-medium gummy bears, that's 16.8mg of THC in each one. If you want them to be closer to 5mg each, find Smaller molds and make 40 or more gummies.

So I want to use this recipe but want to make sure my potency is correct. They say the Blackberry Kush has a high thc level of 20%.
I’m thinking pouring this batch into my gummy molds will make about 75 4ml gummies. Will each gummy be around 5% thc?
So most importantly is how much ground up decarbbed cannabis should I use per cup of coconut oil? 3/4 teaspoon or 2 teaspoons or a whole cup??
I am sooooooo confused and don’t want to waste all this time and effort and money only to blow it by making a weak batch or way too potent batch of gummies. Any suggestions or advice would be so much appreciated. Thank u so much ahead of time for reading all this.

everyone seems to like em a different strength. Last batch i made I used 10 grams of top shelf bud in a cup of MCT oil and they were plenty strong enough for me. I am a lightweight though. I decarbed pretty much as you stated and infused for 4 hours in a mason jar in a slow cooker. works a treat.

Thanks, yeh I’m thinking 2 teaspoons of the decarb pot per 1 cup of oil.

I use 68 grams decarbed for 4 cups of oil (and 4 tablespoon of sunflower lecithin. )1/4 cup per batch of gummies (roughly 180-200 gummies) but that's only half of the infusion I add.

Also that recipe you stated up there for gummies I feel you'll won't be all that happy with way too much liquid and not enough jello. (And mix the sunflower lecithin ( I use powder) in when you Make the oil not when you Make the gummies much easier and smoother)

Thank u so much for all that information. So I was thinking of converting grams to teaspoons when measuring my cannabis but everyone mentions grams. So should I buy a scale instead to measure and if so what would u recommend? Also what is the thc level on the gummies you make? As of now the purchased gummies are 10mg thc and we cut them in half for dosage. I’m only doing this for my wife who has arthritis and both of us to help with sleep. Would u please share your recipe and step by step instructions for making gummies? I am still confused and u said mine had too much liquid. I will not share it with anyone and certainly not in any competition with u. I’ve been trying to do this by total research from the internet but it’s so refreshing to actually speak to someone online. Thanks so much for your time and help.

Sorry been away camping yeah I'm making a batch later tonight ill message you my steps and include a few tricks to make em better. I've never tested my gummies but id say they prob more like 40 to 50 mg for my regular size gummies but I Make smaller ones also for a bunch of older people my grandmother included and alot of people with health issues and cancer

Well we made our first batch of gummies. They look beautiful. Your method is easy and so much appreciated! Didn’t get to actually try them yet but we did try 1/4 teaspoon of the sludge left from squeezing out the coconut oil out of the strainer on the Magical Butter machine. And let me tell you…. We could barely walk. I’ve never been so high in my entire life. Within an hour it hit us. Definitely overdosed on the sludge and there’s a lot of that left in the fridge. Oh my.
Thanks again for the great recipe and method!!

I use LorAnn gummy mix - I also use the Magic Butter Machine in making my infused coconut oil - I infuse an oz. per cup of decarbed herb and 2 cups per batch of gummies. The use of a turkey baster helps portion out the doses in molds with little mess.. This makes 90 10ml doses that pack a punch. And the THC % of the pot used determines the mg dosage per gummy

But to appreciate all that hard work put into making the gummies, you have to go pot sober for a day or two and THEN enjoy your sweet treat.. The lecithin is added in the infusion process and helps make the infusion better able to mix properly with water based recipes. LorAnn also makes hard candy mixes along with numerous flavorings - even cream cheese !

Happy Growing

Just one more item with the gummies - unless you bleach the weed prior to infusion the oil / tincture turns out a very dark green. While you can control the flavor of the gummy I have not found a way to alter the color to be more associated with the flavoring that I would use.

Has anyone found a way to take the green out - ?

How do you get thc milligrams in the hundreds into gummy? I put 12 grams of rosin and 4 ozs of flower into 16 grams of a mixture of mct and coconut oil and when I try and put 8 teaspoons into a gummie recipe it holds together but, even with freezing them it seperates and just comes out the bottom of the gummies. It just smears oil all over the bag I'm storing them in the freezer. Used lecithin oil and it still just seeps out. I don't want to have to eat a gummie as big as a cheeseburger. Is their anyway to get it to hold in? There's gotta be a way. Dispos got high milligram products. I know they have way better equipment, but community is full of smart people. Someone knows the answer. Please enlighten me!

Use more weed. Or double infuse. Infuse some, then strain it and add more weed in with that infusion to pull more. MCT oil can hold hundreds of milligrams of cannabinoids per ml before it reaches a saturation point. You can probably do a quadruple infusion and still not max it out. I did a heavy cream infusion. I used 5 Oz of cannabis in a pint of cream. By my estimate, there's roughly about 600mg per teaspoon. So I use a heaping teaspoon of it when I making ice cream, and a scoop will get you high AF. Or if I feel like greening out, I'll add a teaspoon of it into a cup of hot chocolate. Zing!

I should clarify my cream experiment... I didn't double infuse or anything, I just left all the pulp with the cream since it was so thick and nothing to extract, so it was more of a cream based cannabis paste. 🤣

I infused it a shitoad of times. I only had a levo ll until very recently. 10 grams at a time with flower. That's not the problem though. You can't get the oil to stay in the gummys. I could walk around with a giant jar of oil or tincture for that matter. But I can't get it potent enough to make it practicle. I have a medical card and go to a prohibition state a lot. It's hard to fly or mail a giant jar to a hotel to yourself. I just can't figure out how to get a months worth of meds into something practicle and discrete to take places. Minnesota has thc pills but they cost a buttload and I grow and dont want to spend a shit load on something I already have and spent time on for 7 months in the summer. I know this is a first world problem but I'm cheap and i know someone on here probably works in the industry and can just tell me an easy way to do it. Mixing flower and rosin oil into the same edible is way better than either one by themselves. I'd highly suggest it if you never have mixed the two oil extractions together. Thanks for taking time to respond.

I had that problem once, thought I had used lecithin too. That time it happened I stopped stirring before the gelatin started thickening. Can't remember if it settled on bottom or on top but one "plane" had a stratified layer of the oil. It was a cosmetic issue, the gummies were still dynamite.

Ah, I get where you're coming from now. Do a triple infusion of whatever you've got, then load it into some 00 capsules. Get yourself a big bottle of vitamin E, dump the vitamins out and put your capsules in. Send yourself vitamins.

When I'm traveling to a prohibition state I usually just pack some disposable vapes, I'm usually not there long.
