You're not watering empty space. You're maintaining the proper pH and ppm throughout the pot because you're fertigating. If it were plain water there would be no downside to letting it dry back. But because your water is full of salt, letting that empty space dry back is like leaving soup to summer on the stove too long. It gets salty and thick.

Add hard tap water to that equation and it gets even worse.

Got it.

Right or wrong, we’re going to find out! Hahaha.

I guess I’m thinking about it like this…

If the clones roots are basically in the plug, and the small area around the plug right now, I’m going to make sure it’s always wet.

But if I keep watering a bunch, I’m just watering empty space.

Like if the roots were established in the pot…water away.

I guess I have the wrong way of thinking about it lol.

At least today they look a little more alive!

Regardless…I was just saying it’s hard thinking about keeping a big pot wet with little plants in them is all!

And it’s my first time with clones…so I don’t have any idea what I’m doing lol…so it’s all experimenting!

I have heard this word thrown around in a few threads by inexperience growers....not pointing my finger right now.....just clarifying is all

They will look much greener and will be throwing out new growth in 3 days now that you are properly watering

@PlumberSoCal2 Is spot on. And dont worry too much about over watering. I snafued some settings a few years ago and ran 15 gallons of nute water through my plants in 24 hours one time...

Plants were fine, but as dumb as it sounds, once we got that mess cleaned up, we watered the plants. :)

I am a soil guy, never ran Coco so I could not have offered all the detailed expertise others have given you. That said, you should never let roots of a newly transplanted clone go dry. Make them as comfortable as possible in the first couple days and you might not see any drooping or yellowing whatsoever, they’ll just carry on like nothing’s changed. After a week or two you can force the roots to go searching.

The beauty of cloning is that you can continually grow the same predictable plant over and over and over… the fun of seeds is the mystery, but also lots of disappointment! That’s why I do both.

Last question I promise

When do you start ramping up the light to a normal veg PPFD?

They’re looking better after almost a week, but now I don’t want them to start getting leggy.

Also hoping they start eating some…still pretty pale, but they’re getting 1.2 EC all said and done.

Thoughts?

My rule of thumb week # and 50. Week1-150. Week2-250, Week3-350, by the time I get to week 4 I will start increasing as much as I can without causing under nutes or stress.

But also, the plant, medium (i use coco only now), and nutes, dictates this some. If I grow widow or blueberry i get small brown specs on the leaves because of calcium deficiency. My wedding cakes I can drive pretty hard. If im doing a mixture, the widow or blueberry pretty much dictate the entire grows ppfd.

Somewhat depends on how hard you wanna run them, and how fast you want them to grow.

Today is day 10, and I started pulsing the trays on. Basically, filling them up, and then shutting them off until they empty. Been going okay. Clones are weird, but I think I like them lol. Started bending today too, and hopeful to get this trellis filled asap!

I will say this…it’s reeaaalllyyyy awesome to grow three identical plants that have been selected for their morphology, terpenes, and structure already lol. These clones all have realllyyy tight node spacing, and showing preflowers already….no wonder they grow so fast! Mature at birth! Hahhaha. Anyways…I’m struggling to find a downside to clones lol. Just wish I would’ve caught on sooner!!!!

The only thing I find super puzzling is how these dudes growing clones fill a trellis with a 3 week veg lol.

Trays have been on for a full day, and they seem to be pulling some without drooping.

Might still shut it off and wait another couple days to turn it on permanently.

It’s day 12 today, and I feel like roots are allllllmost colonized enough!

I’m also trying something really interesting in flower this run as well…

Running a mixed spectrum LED setup…

Basically a lot more red/yellow just to try and get closer to a HPS spectrum!

Not just full on red/yellow, but more than the usual LED light these days.

Have you guys ever seen this growth pattern before? It’s on all three clones…obviously lol…but there are two axillary branches starting at each base of the nodes with little 3 finger leaves lol.

Very cool and super ideal, but I wonder if this was a factor in the breeders selection.

Growing branches from their auxiliary bud sites. A sign of explosive veg growth. You might usually spot it going into the stretch but can happen much earlier with just vigorous phenos. A good sign you have good density potential.

Also…

I’m prototyping a product called BudBones that are 2.5-3” overmolded bonzai wire with c shaped “clips” that attach to branches in segments so that you can pose branches however you want…no nets, no tying, no nothing.

Day 17 since transplanting today.

I think roots have finally started filling out the bottom of the pots!

It’s so weird to not have a taproot to count on, but I’m so curious to see the root ball after the fact, and see if it fills out better than seeded runs.

EC is still at 1.3ish with the Athena Pro Line, and before you guys say anything about it…I realize that the pro line says to mix to 3.0, but I’m in autopots…not HFF drip systems lol.

This is gonna be interesting…

I also found out that the cut isnt Super Boof, but instead is the Pink Panty Cut of Blockberry.

I’m impressed to far with the vigor, but could also attribute it to a gen 1 mother from tissue culture I suppose.

Yes clones are a different plant for sure than one grown from seed. All the clones i make have odd growth patterns. I just keep them healthy let them do their thing for about 6wks then i start removing branches till i shape it like i want. They can get out of control quickly.
