She lives! Getting ready for fire season! One down, one to go!

It's always good when they start up after sitting!! Last year up in the mountains we were on the edge of a thunderstorm and got a downdraft that took out a tree and then a power pole on the neighbors property. I found an old Coleman generator that hadn't been started in 10 years and still had gas in it. I was amazed when the thing actually started. At my house in Napa I have two suitcase type generators (Wen) one for upstairs (TV, fridge, a couple lights) and one for downstairs (2 freezers and a fridge). I lose power more often in Napa than the mountains!

Right on, Phyto! Can’t have too many generators! They are lifesavers! But that’s a long time to go between starts! That is surprising! Must have thrown some stable in it! The one I’m going to try and start out in the barn is a Coleman! But fairly new! Probably not more than 20 years old! Hope I remembered to put stable in it! It hasn’t run in a couple of years! Just like the other one!

Did ya shut er down properly? Shouldn't have an issue.
Yep! Shut off the petcock and let it run out of gas! I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck! And you’re right that is important! Very important unless you like, pulling carburetors off! But anytime gas is two or three years old it could go either way!

💚 Yup, and stabilizer isn't a cure all and breaks down too. I do the same and drain the tank. Heck of a lot easier to just filler up with fresh.✌️

There's a turnip truck?

Lol! Yeah, there used to be! I don’t know what the modern equivalent is now! And you’re right! After the fire season, I will probably run it almost empty! And then add fresh if I need to during the winter storm season! It’s not bad around here in the winter!👍

I was joking about the TT, yes I know. And same. I just have to contend with Hurricanes and Ice storms mostly. But we can get fires just not often. But with El Nino creeping in I hope we can get some reliable rain.🤞

I hear you! But I think that El Niño is supposed to spawn more and more powerful hurricanes and more tornado weather in the same vein! At least from the little I’ve read! Seems like there’s always a trade-off!😁

I stand corrected! I don’t pay much attention to it!👍 was half right! More tornadoes! Don’t worry about tornadoes and hurricanes here!
Yes, but all that rain could screw with ya big time. I guess we'll all just play Lt. Dan...bring it on. 😂

The amazing part was I know there was no stabil in the gas and it wasn’t run dry. I did dump the gas and refill it. The Coleman was at least 30 years old. Besides bad gas the thing that kills most generators is not changing the oil often enough. Mine calls for oil changes every 50 to 100 hours of run time.

Running those motors constantly for days at a time is working them pretty hard! They can gunk up some oil! And changing it is a royal pita! But has to be done! A lot of them have a low oil shut off! If you don’t know that you can wear your arm and shoulder out, trying to start one! And then it finally dawns on you! Duh!😆

I have two generators because one won’t quite run the AC in the trailer, it’ll normally start ok, but once the compressor develops head pressure and tries to turn on it’s too much draw and generator kicks out, so I have a parallel kit to hook them together.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but I wasn’t sure that you can hook all generators up in parallel! I know you can the little Hondas! I got these things secondhand on the cheap! I don’t need to be frying one!
