ive been gettin my equip together and homeboy at GC is saying mathmatically the UC 16 site Vert setup will only need a 1/2 HP chiller each to cool the temps down. i know uve been running 1 HP chillers and mentioned a page bak how important it is to keep temps 63-68. i think he believes chillers only need to cool down to 68. so my question is do u rec the 1HP over a 1/2HP consideirng the larger the unit, the more cooling capacity?

Go with the larger chiller ... If it gets hot and it doesn't keep your temps in check you'll have serious issues. 68 would be a max not a minimum.

BTW: GC's 1/2hp units aren't the greatest in the world, get the Eco over the white ones if you do go with halfs.

I started out with a 1/2 hp chiller and it could not keep the rez temps below 71 when the room temp was between 82 and 85, If you can mount the chiller outside the room and the room that it is in has an ac you might be abel to get away with it if not your going to need at least a 3/4 hp chiller .Hope this helps JACK:damnhippie:

thanks bro id rather get a real answer from sumone whos been running the setup and the chillers together. ill see wat the cost diff is but most likely will get 1HP anyways for each to be on the safe side. ill be waitin for the new journal link.

Don't know how much the 1HP units cost, but for multiples you might want to consider a central chiller with cooling coils. Run the res' with it and have enough chilling power left to run a water cooled Co2 unit or water cooled dehumidifier, etc.

My UC system is a lot easier to cool via water chiller. 9kish watts and my 1HP keeps up with the temps just fine. It's a lot harder to keep my temps with my MPB system; elevated tubs is harder to cool. My other room of 7k watts, MPB tubs and my 1HP can just keep up with it right now with summer temps.

The heat absorption of concrete should not be underestimated.

u mean the concrete acts as a heat or cold sink?
ultra insulated?
im growing in a basement with concrete walls.......ebb/gro though not uc.........and no chiller needed (rez outside grow room)

Insulating the buckets with Reflectix or similar material will make a significant difference in the size of the chiller required to keep up, or the amount of work your chiller must do.

Insulating the buckets and the PVC will help a little but its not going to keep you from running a 1 hp chiller when the room is 85 and the chiller is in the room.JACK

It depends on how many weeks you are taking them to?I like to start removing them rite after week 4 and do it over a 2 week period (not all at one time) If your growing for tops only in a SOG it wont make a difference If your growing larger plants it will...Hope this helps...:big_boss:JACK

I used fairly large plants in a Scrog. I dont really have a center that doesnt get light, but I do trim off everything below the screen. Being sober made it a little more clear for me. You were just trying to say that if you're growing bushes, its benificial to trim the center of the bush.

i was just wondering if you have to wear sunglasses when you go into this room? you could really damage your eyes by being in this room and having all of the bulbs blasting in your eyes without any sunglasses with UV protection? just lookin out for ya! you can make all the money in the world, but without your eyes, is the money really worth it??
