A friend of mine said if I went from 3.5 gallon buckets to 15 I would double my yield. I get great results now is it beneficial to use the 15 gallon bucket ruining two plant to every 1000

A 5 gallon Bucket is good for an 8 oz - 1lb plant in 100% coco. The main issue is you keeping the root system moist, if you can't keep up then your hurting your yield, its hydro. A 5 gallon bucket of 100% coco will grow a very big plant having 2 of those will fill up your light footprint.

At 2 per light you need to be in a large pot. Im up to 7gallon pots at 4 per light and im thinking 10g squat pots next time. My girls are sucking up water every other day. No way they could go any longer. I always like it every other day. If it takes longer the pots to big.

i think with 4 plants and 3- 5 gal buckets you should be able to get 600 + with the right strain easy

unless your trying to do trees I think 15 gal is overkil inside

maybe even try some 5 gal smart pots - I like the wdith of them and they are the bomb for good roots

Your not going to just double your yeild by transplanting into a bigger pot. You have to give them more veg time, more space, more everything. You can grow large plants in small buckets. Ive grown 1/2 to 3/4 pound plants in 3 and 5 gallon pots of dirt! So in coco 5gallons are fine for you unless they get rootbound in the fives, then you need to up pot.

I agrre with mango
If your not willing to give more veg time then no need to go bigger pots
Smart pots or th eknock off's ROCK
I like to start in 1gal, then 3gals,then 7gals, then 20gals filled up 75% which is 15 gal's
I Also like 85% coco 15% perlite
water untill 20-25% runoff helps with salt build up

I was thinking of going from a 5 gallon pot of pure coco to a 7 gallon pot. I knew that coco was hydro so if I'm growing in pure coco in a 5 gallon bucket and I switched to a 7 gallon bucket with the appropriate veg time would it increase my yield substantially or should I just stick to the 5 gallon bucket I know you can grow some big ass plants with a 5 gallon pot my last grow I pulled 8 zips per plant in a 5 gallon pot . When growingin pure coco does the size of your pot effect the size of your plant as much as if u were groing in soil?? Would growing in A 5 gallon pot of pure coco be same as growing in say a 7 gallon pot in soil?? I only ask because I want to know if upgrading to a 7 gallon pot will up my yield by a substantial amount or should I just stick to the 5 gallon pot?? Either way I think I might buy a few 7 gallon buckets just to see.

"I think" alot of it has to do with genetics and how much rootmass the strain requires to yield so much uptop. 100% coco has no perlite and more air then peatmoss so that allows more room for roots along with a nice fuzzy rootstructure but then again people have grown 1lbers in 5 gallon buckets of soil outdoors watering 2x a day. A really up in the air kind of question.. A 5 gallon bucket of hydroton sitting in another 5 gallon bucket with a few inches of space can grow a 3lber in hydro..

I'm veging for 5 weeks or 3 ft. My old parnter was feeding them. Before and never told me the nuts. But he was pulling 250-450 per light with the 3.5 buckets using
Ak47 strain. With 8 1000 and 18 plants we got 13 lbs. So I been trying to figure how he was pulling those numbers

Some plants had a lb per plant never seen anything like it and he was doing it all day long. Notsure how but I had to trim them. Buds were size of my leg.

A good ak47 clone only can do that. Purple Kush will not, all comes down to genetics.

HI

Imho smartpots or the knock off rock!!!

I've talked to owner and these are some of the points I took away from convo..

1. These pots were 1st used in the growing of mass treeproduction on a farm...
You know the kind you buy and transplant and they take off... usually 6-10' tall.
Lol now ask yourself your question again will I get large plants from using smart pots YESSSSS!!!!!
imho get rid of horizontal lighting and hang lights vertical and double stack them and grow TREE'S 2-4 lb per plant... mimic dd's system without the rdwc just 20 gall smart pots...

2. You have to understand how roots grow in a pot to fully understand the KICKASS ABILITIES of the smart pot..
When roots hit the side of a plastic pot they swirl get long, but swirl...
S.P. prunes: This means that when the roots hit the pot it cuts/pruns it off.Now the root will still grow threw but only a little,BUT THE MAGIC IS. When the root is pruned it tells the plant to send another root. then days later its pruned and another root is sent and this reapeats itself OVER AND OVER... While your plastic pots are sending roots MUCH SLOWER And the long 1's just keep swirling..(if you don't believe me tip your plant over slide out pot and look @ roots all swirling)..

3. final point playing off point 2 is: he stated that becuse of this pruning/sending of roots so fast HE CLAIMED THAT YOU DOUBLED YOUR POTS SIZE... So a 1 galon is equivalent to a plastic 2 galon, 3 = 6 7=14 15=30 20=40 etc....

Now its has been proven and even recently here in dd's 10 plant test THAT A PLANTS DRIP LINE/abilty to grow sideways determines how tall/wide the plant will get HEALTHLY (LOL weve all left a plant to long in a small pot and she got TALL however not healthy AND NOT WIDELY /BUSHY)

So imho the best yway to handle this is do a 20 gal+ (cause there wider)...
and if hieght or cost of nutrients or coco is an issue dont fill all the waydo have way or 75% of the way..

Also when hand watering and you have full smart pots.ITS CAN CAUSE POT TO OVERFLOW FROM THE TOP.. (Even though coco is pourouse even if you use perlite) The water take a second to drop just like in soil.
Coco just drops faster..
So to combate this ALWAYS LEAVE FEW INCHES FROM TOP FOR WATER TO SIT(usually drops within seconds)..

Have you actually used smartpots they don't grow plants any healthier or faster, I never saw bigger yields... they rootprune like you said but also dry out faster.

so are you guys basically saying that coco and smart pots are better than hydro as far as output and size of plants

I HAVE USED AND STILL USE SMARTPOTS... Again THEY ROCK!!!!

You can save money and go with knock offs same technology IMHO..

I will not argue these facts I stated... Plastic pot cause swirling causeing smaller root ball = SMALLER YEILD'S NO matter how you say it..

Coco is a pain in the ass untill you relize its dirty and needs to be cleaned buffer and ph adjusted,OR BUY THE EXPENSIVE READY TO GO SHIT... Otherwise you will have some defficency's for 1st few weeks...
If you read around you'll find out that coco works great 2nd 3rd time around..
WHY???

IMHO cause it is now buffered and not sucking down your calcium to buffer it self...

Also hand watering is tireing I recomend a drip system I MAKE MY OWN NUTE'S,so I drain to waste. Purest way to drip Imho not fucking up your ph or ppms, and not clogging drips alway s works 2 lol..
