some people are douches about secrecy with their vac purging methods but the basic idea is that you put the oil into a vacuum chamber of at least -25hg while its in molten state and it literally pulls the butane out of it.. the whole thing puffs up like a giant marshmellow but eventually deflates as the butane escapes. speeds up the purging process exponentially (can do a whole run in about an hour, from packing the extractor to taking dabs versus a couple days). Finding a good vacuum chamber without spending loads of cash is the hard part haha
how much are you putting in your pie plate at once? anything under 4-5 grams will purge pretty fast. over 6 grams may take over an hour, but not 2. 1 gram can purge in like ten minutes, but as the oil gets deeper it takes much longer.
What's up HMK? Hey have you ever done a side by side with a vac purge to see the differences? Figured if anyone has it was you lol. I do have to concur that it is possible to do a run and have it purged in about an hour lol Like lens crafters! Anyway I just wondered if there was a good enough reason to try a vac to purge my errl.
Cheers,
Crom
i dont think it will yield a better result necessarily, but it may make it easier for more people to do it well. i worry that one may start to lose terpenes, and it may be overkill. if one knows how to remove all the flaming bubbles the old school way, vac purging is not needed imo.
I was talking to a scientist cat about this since I prefer vac purging. He was very confident that being able to vac purge at a lower temp prevents a lot of cannabinoid degradation. The only thing is that if you can figure out how to low temp purge (100 degree or less) the oil has higher cannabinoid content but its not active. I don't want to carboxylate trim prior as that changes cannabinoid content as well. We tested a batch that was vac purged low temp vs heated to activate. the sample that was heated was active but with different and lower cannabinoid content. Just something to consider as everyone uses different temps, times, attention, etc. I've tried some fantastic earl without vac but with vac the smell/terpenes are very consistent. never seen a difference in yield tho, agreed.
