Proof of global warming/climate change

I'm going to continue insisting we stop using the media term of 'global warming' and start calling it climate change. We won't experience an overall warming, we're going to experience, ARE EXPERIENCING, more extreme, and greater extremes of weather. Watch shit like hotels fly away. Watch more hurricanes hit further north, and further inland. Watch the shit hit the giant fan!
I believe Cali gets most of its Hydro and Fresh water from Canada, or so I heard.
That's not correct. We get most of our power from out of state, Texas, Oregon and Washington are our main suppliers (hydro-electric dams). I can drive to a local hydro-electric generation station just a bit upcountry from me, but those are few and far between. We have, for the most part as voters, eschewed the notion of being self-sufficient with specific regard to power generation and so have these conglomerates that purchase power from other states. There was, back in the 90s, a big case here of collusion between some power suppliers, SDG&E being one of them, to keep rates artificially high.

Now, as a result of the push to get 'green', power companies like PG&E (one of the largest power suppliers in the state, along with SoCal Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric) are now experiencing some income problems due to so many homeowners and businesses adding solar arrays (and gas lines blowing up, we can't leave that out). While they've been directed by our legislature to have a minimum of 10% of supplied power coming from sustainable/renewable sources (E.G. our home is fully solar, but also grid-tied, meaning we're feeding power back to PG&E's power grid) and they don't want to pay for it. In fact, they're now bandying about the idea of making homeowners like ourselves pay for grid use. I'm sure the CPUC will allow this.

Ken, you keep insisting there is no water shortage, but I believe that your view is perhaps skewed, and doesn't adequately address the facts. The facts are that what we and our plants need is potable water, not just salt water, and the waste involved in creating potable from seawater is staggering, not to mention the energy involved is significant. There is nothing efficient about it, only solar stills would be anything resembling efficient and, let's face it, if they were so good at producing all this potable water, wouldn't we already have companies, especially bottled water companies, lining up to make it for us? The fact of the matter is that aquifers are drying up, real farmers are really experiencing this, directly, for real. And it's been happening for decades. There is no good excuse for being wasteful with good, potable water, none whatsoever, IMO.

Would that I could, I would live on nothing but all this seawater. Unfortunately, even that is becoming unlivable to sea creatures due to acidification. I recently learned that it's becoming harder to find good quality pearls due specifically to acidification.

Back to California. SoCal gets a portion of its water from Arizona, but certainly not all. I believe I've already pointed out two major sources of both Bay area and SoCal water. I'm sure there are more. That's not to say that the issue between CA and AZ over the Colorado River isn't significant, but only a portion of that issue actually has to do with the water itself. It is also to do with the fact that the river, as a boundary, moves, which leaves one state smaller and the other larger. Historically, IIRC, that's been one of the biggest issues between the states.

That, and fucking Zonies driving down the 8 pulling their shenanigans. ;)

SHENANIGANS!

Believe me Im NOT wastefull with My water...It cost me money to pump it outa the ground. ;)

ok forget salt water..I never should have posted that.

On a whole, people waste too much water.

People waste too much Rain...

Here in The central valley they dig holes..and let them fill with water from the rain..:D

I am still astonished that the State of Oregon says it owns all the rain that falls anywhere in the state. A guy was punished last year for harvesting rain on his property.

Kolah... I'm thinking the CO river's headwaters are maybe up in the Rockies...? I have no idea, I've never looked into that. I know that snowpack and reservoir levels are of high concern in the state.

Of course, going that route, the Missippi's headwaters aren't in Louisiana, either.

.
Yeah, Thats what I am talking about. How ridiculous is that?

washington state gets a Crapload of rain right?
How much of that rain goes into the ocean?

We pipe oil all the way from alasaka...
They took the Central valley desert and made it produce Produce for the world!
i still say the shortage crap is just a ploy..for power and money..

You guys know that...It all about money and power..

this guys has all the water he needs..Might wanna filter it though

;)

I need to roll another..

I read through the thread but im not sure if someone mentioned it or i dont remember but i was told Arizona own our water thats why we cant catch rainwater without paying the price regardless its sad to see the day we cant catch rain water theres gotta be a better way to stop greedy phucks from catching or collecting more water than necessary i guess this is an example where the bad apples ruin it for the bunch......one realty person told us that he knew many people who have collected rainwater without punishment but its probably cuz noone ratted them out ... so i called the water department people and they were hardcore about us only using .38 acres of water i think a year or maybe a month but i didnt know how to do the math and they wouldnot explain it in gal per month but they didnt try to help me understand i think this is one of those cases where its not suppose to be difficult to get extra water rights they just discourage you from attaining the rights so the farmers have plenty i guess we gotta save to get a 45 acre + place i guess its agriculture at that point and you get an extra acre of water lol just playing i still dont get it..........i have a feeling they want it that way so its easier to make us feel unworthy or guilty

Huge Bump! In your Face!...lol

The Earth has been getting warmer -- but how much of that heat is due to greenhouse gas emissions and how much is due to natural causes?
A leaked report by a United Nations’ group dedicated to climate studies says that heat from the sun may play a larger role than previously thought.

Do they have water supply issues there?

If so then I can understand, groundwater is rainwater--so even if it seems stupid there at least might be some reason behind it.

Perfectly reasonable to disagree with that as well, but at least there would be some justification under those circumstances.

Not like I believe California has water supply issues. I'm not sure we can really equate capturing what falls off one's roof to, say, damming tributaries and the like.

More weird shit today. i'm down at the creek to snag some forest duff and some river loam for the dirt. i'm walking along bank of creek and a whole bunch of little frogs jump into the water. feb.17th frogs , they had to be fucking tadpoles in January. this has gotta be 8 weeks earlier than usual. only one thing is constant, change.... but it still freaks me out...

Ya definitely worth paying attention were living in an extraordinary time lol when isn't it especially if you appreciate the beauty of change like autumn!
