Meeks' 2013 Dapper Grow Log

Time to do a super speed grow show, with some heavy black outs due to my lack of photo capturing in my own garden this cycle. As I mentioned at the beginning of this extended update, HigherSolutions was generous enough to give me some of his Starfighter crosses to test grow. I germinated 4 Shadow Star and 4 Space Jam seeds, both reg crosses, and ended up with 3 female Shadow Star and all male Space Jam. :confused:


Here goes:

I decided to incorporate 30-40% perlite into my coco coir for this run because I prefer more frequent irrigation in the peak of flowering, but the water holding of pure coco was causing wet feet. The added perlite dramatically helped with drainage and made the balance of irrigation timing less of a fine line for me.

Shadow Star (Black Cherry Soda x Starfighter) at 25 days into flowering^

and then at 38 days:



Now these remaining three, very attractive, purple SS ladies, along with 5 new White Master Kush (ivory cut) plants are in the final flush stage and will be harvested in about 10 days time! I can't wait to see if the classic black cherry soda aroma and taste will carry on through the curing process, because one of the plants already stinks heavily of sweet black cherries! I have been experimenting with doing dry trimming rather than wet, and the increased post harvest aroma/flavor is dramatic so I'm really excited for this harvest. :rolleyes:




I also did a refresh to all my current genetics in the stable, so all my mother plants are freshly cloned copies of their previously root bound ancestor. Check out this happy new Alien Grenades plant:






And of course, as I referenced earlier when talking about grow automation, I was able to sneak away from my ladies to go visit home for the Thanksgiving/Chanukah holiday at the end of last month :). A much needed vacation, I always love visiting Seattle, even in the winter.

Hey nMeeks, thanks for the great update. The photos of the commercial greenhouse operations are really cool, I drive by those same spots on the central coast and have always wondered about them.

Have you tweeked your feed recipe at all since you last posted it in August? Are you still amending your coir with 150g gypsum per 50L coir?

I have not tweeked the recipe too much, but yes I guess I did enough that anyone following the same recipe would want to know. As I mentioned just before the big update, I also incorporated a bit of super treble phosphate into the coir before planting this time, not just gypsum. I will look up the rate I used and edit it back in here when I find it. Besides that, and the addition of perlite to my mix, I also did a feeding in week 4 of flowering of a free humic acid product that I got at a landscape tradeshow when one of the more purple Shadow Star plants was appearing to really be craving phosphorus (Since humics will act as a phosphorus chelating agent, making it more available without me tweeking the fertigation recipe). Lastly, I picked up some HiBrix molasses, which I am debating trying out on a couple WMK during this flush period, but that has yet to be seen. I hesitate to try it because I really like my results right now, so why fix what's not broken is sort of my thinking.

And yes, we have finally gotten to the White Master Kush update, since you were just looking at the final root ball of one healthy WMK plant a couple days after harvest!

I took a photo of each plant, in its entirety, after being trimmed and sitting fanned out in a 2'x2' box for transport to the drying tent. Check these long legged ladies out:

You have some amazing pictures there...
How was the stone on those white masters? socal master dominant or the white or 50/50 hybrid?
im looking for a socal master dominant one since i cant get clones in my area so i might as atleast gamble with some seeds from a reputable breeder in try to find the closest keeper! my choices were either Crash Helmet(socal master x tahoe alien) by Alien or These white master by OGRaskal!

nothing like waking up everyday in the pnw blessed with views such as these! hope you enjoyed your stay up here nmeeks! your threads inspire to obtain a wealth of knowledge not many care to explore these days and especially in the cannabis scene! its becoming less common to find someone with such appreciation for botany in its entirety its hard for it not to rub off on us fellow farmers reading through these threads. happy holidays nmeeks and thanks again for your hard work on these threads truly inspirational!

Love the flower show bro and by your picture of Seattle you appear to have been standing at the hotel i stayed at during Hemp Fest by the proximity of the space needle and @jlr42024 you are very true in stating what a beautiful area it is , I'm original from Phila and what a different world it was up there , I actually felt bad flicking a smoke in the street but i gotta say them steep ass street's were brutal heading up to the fest .....

Very happy to share, thank you for the kind words Ogfresh. The White Master Kush keeper that I chose is IMO very similar to samples of what I've been told was true Socal Master Kush, both in visual appearance and in the high. These are not my words, but describe the high quite well, "The high rolls up on you like a helicopter passing you by. Slow and faint right at first, but increasing in its intensity until you're totally consumed with it. I smoked one little bowl and I'm totally rocked. The high is all over the place from the back of my eye balls to the backs of my ears." A functional high only for the heavier smoker. Interestingly, it has an ivory soap aroma that is nothing like any other strain I know, which is why I chose it above the other plants from seed. I think the WMK is a worthwhile investment, and a very stable feminized line in my experience. Good hunting!

Glad you liked it Soser, I took that photo from a street corner during a walk I was taking on Queen Anne Hill, I love that view and have grown up with its spectacle. And you're right, Seattle's hills are definitely no joke.







Harvested today, photos of my keeper Shadow Star cut when I get the chance. :smug:

Shadow Star (Black Cherry Soda x Starfighter), bred by HigherSolutions, veg'd under 400w MH and flowered under 1000w HPS, harvested at 57 Days into 12/12 after a two week flush, could have potentially gone another week if I started flush later, but I'm very pleased with how she came out on the seed run!

That plant is stunning meeks had me mesmerized for a moment staring at it , can't wait to find something nice and colorful in my garden ..

Hey meeks do you get any ph fluctuation in your rez at all? Is it necesarry to aerate the rez when running dtw?
Im running dtw whats the longest you can keep nutes in the rez before things start to go bad?
Is there a device out there that can measure the amount of waste when feeding. I would like to feed on timers and gauge the correct amount of runoff without having to guestimate.

Thank you Mr Roboto, I will actually be taking a break from flowering any crops for the winter/spring in this garden, my time living here is coming to a close and I'm giving myself a big window for breakdown and cleanup. But there will be new, bigger, and better things coming, likely before the end of 2014, so keep an eye out!

The ideal situation for water soluble nutrients is to keep them in concentrated tanks (usually 2-4 tanks), mixed only with things that will not precipitate/lockout. Then a computer regulated pump or calibrated venturi device (Hozon or Dosatron) would inject the concentrated solution into your water line at a desired ratio on its route to the plants. pH injection can also be built into these systems, and some products like the dosers + regulators that Hanna makes will dose your acid to match a set pH reading. The benefit of this style injection system is that there is no opportunity for things to settle out in solution, since they are only mixed with possible reactants on their short path from your hose or RO reservoir to the plant drippers. But you're likely not going to design even a functional DIY with this style for less than $800, so that's something to be aware of.

My current method (due to small operation size and lack of this knowledge during room design) is mixing everything in the recipe together at its final dilution rate in a reservoir that holds my pump/irrigation system. The solution sits in the reservoir for anywhere from 3 to 6 days depending on the volume I am irrigating at the time, and there is some visible settling/precipitation by the 5th or 6th day if it goes that long. The pH can fluctuate over time for sure, its always good to be monitoring your pH as frequently as possible (daily being the ideal). Definitely no need to aerate the reservoir, I run my veg room on a res without an airstone and the plants always look fantastic even though that reservoir can actually go without being changed for almost 2 weeks.

ive got a little question for ya bro ....I had a pile of veg plants in a room with colder temps I took them all out of the colder place and put them inside my house and all the leafs are curling and turning black im pretty sure it was becase of the shock being moved from one place to the other accompanied by the tempeture fluckuation .....judt would like an outside opinion

Meeks you are always helping me out. I was unaware of the Dosatron. This will seriously improve my system.

I was just reading though in the overpriced nutrient thread that mixing epsom and calcium nitrate together in concentration will cause precipitation. Do you know if this is true? Do you know if either could be mixed with Jacks?
