The History of OG Kush

Sensi won a cup with this cutting. It was called "Jack Herer". The J.H. line of seeds had this plant as a mother.

I went to amsterdam the yr after the 'Jack Herer' strain won the cup. Picked up a pack of Jack Herer seeds.. Cost me $300 american dollars from the sensi seed bank. Had to borrow the money from my buddy I was there with. Took those bitches out of the package and unstitched my pants boot leg seam stuffed them one by one. Wore those pants on the plane ride home and pushed them in the dirt as soon as I walked in the door when I got home lol.

That strain to me was a skunk/spicy kush flavor. Not quite the funk of OG but damn good in it's own right. When flipped to 12/12 it almost tripled in size 'at least my phenos did'. I couldn't accommodate it in my basement at the time so I passed it on to my buddy who also turns out couldn't accommodate it 'DOH'. Within a yr he let it go.

Still bring tears to my eyes to this day when I think I had the clone only early 90's blueberry and a male Jack herer and like a complete dumb ass I didn't cross them. Of course now I have neither one of the strains.

In my defence I was in the beginning of my growing days but still theres no damn excuse for that kind of lackluster behavior on my part.

Anywho.. While I was in amsterdam the first time, mid 90's. I asked all the coffee shops if they had or have heard of the Blueberry strain. They all looked at me like what the fuck is that lol.. I Went back to amsterdam again in the late 90's and still none of them heard of the blueberry strain.
in 2000 it wins the cup. I guess they heard of it.

To me, there is only one OG KUSH; when I first got it in Los Angeles in 1997 the O.G. stood for Original Gangster - and I think that name came from the Ice-T reference in hip-hop; O.G. Original Gangster, which is the fourth album by Ice-T. Released in 1991. O.G. became famous in Los Angeles and mostly within the hip-hop community, as there was Kush - like Hindu Kush sold in Sensi catalogs and commonly grown in Humboldt and Mendocino County, and then there was O.G. Kush - which was always awesome indoor bud, grown by a small group of growers that knew what they were doing and put out a product that became world-famous. All the BS about "organically grown" is hippy fantasy. O.G. was mostly grown in LA, mostly hydroponically and flowered late into its cycle, to the point which there were practically no stigmas and the resin was thick; O.G. was always green and sticky and the bracts fat.

And in regards to Nevil (hash and hugs dear sir) - I can attest that O.G. Kush is not reminiscent of Jack Herer. I was literally standing next to Jack Herer in 1994 when Ben Dronkers christened NL5xHzC X SK1xHzC - Jack Herer at the Cannabis Castle in Holland. That year Jack (the bud) was incredibly spicy and had the aroma of what I would later call "Nevil's Haze" - only because I have had the great fortune of smoking with Nevil in 96'. NL5 x Haze was for a long time my favorite strain and even won the 1996 HT Cannabis Cup in the Hydro category as NL5xHaze x Mist - even though it was grown in soil by a gentleman named Tom, and not a cross with Kali Mist. (And years later I want to say thank you to Nevil for that wonderful evening - if you remember, I found a seed in the bud you gave me to smoke, and when I offered it back to you, you laughed and told me I could keep it. I immediately proclaimed that I hoped it was a female and you said no, that I should hope it was a male, so that then I could mix it will all my favorite females. I'll never forget that perspective, and I thank you for it. That single seeed ended up being a male - unfortunately I lost it in the July 97 raid.)

O.G. Kush is greasy, whereas the Haze is spicy. I have a phenotype that is the best example of Nevil's Haze that I have smoked in North America and the O.G. is practically the polar opposite. After I got out of prison, I met a guy who lit a joint of what he called Super Silver Haze and it smelled like a bud that was handed to me by Nevil that evening in the 90's. I asked him where he got it and he told me that one of his friends had traveled to the Netherlands in 1997 or 1998, and met a guy named Nevil, played chess and smoked together. He bought seeds from Nevil and upon arriving home, picked the female that most reminded him of the Cannabis he smoked with Nevil. He quickly told me that he did not know if the story was true, but I felt it was because the scent of the Haze is unmistakable. He was nice enough to give me a cutting and years later I had both the Haze and O.G. tested by Steep Hill (circa 2009) and the O.G. came back at 20.6% and the Haze at 23.7% THC.

I still call the cutting I have "Nevil's Haze" and not "Super Silver Haze" because I think the sample of SSH that is floating around the San Francisco Bay should (I think) be called "Super Silver Skunk" because it flowers fast and is thick, and it does not have that unique Haze spicy scent. I will post photos of both my Haze and O.G. for the sake of comparison. The Haze I have is smallish buds, flowers in 70 to 77 days and is my morning favorite.

I will also attach some photos of O.G. Kush dried buds that I photographed while smoking with DJ Pooh - Pooh is the music producer for Ice Cube and co-creator of the movie FRIDAY. O.G Kush was practically all he smoked and is a very authentic photo of O.G. (Pooh was also nice enough to bail me out of jail in June 2006, after I got busted yet again, and also was DJ at my first party at the Playboy mansion to benefit the Marijuana Policy Project in 2007.)

Which brings me around to commenting on Dave Richards testimony on Adams show now that I have listened to it all. So much of what he says is to me is absolute fabrication. For instance, Woody Harrelson, who bailed me out of the feds to the tune of $500,000., was in Australia the evening I was raided and Dave is completely lying when he says that he had plans to have dinner at my house with Woody and of all people, Jack Nicholson. I also think that this is a great example of David's "fireside story", as it's one grain of truth mixed with confusion created by Dave's fantasy. Dave has only met Jack Nicholson in his imagination, which is the same place he met Frank. Furthermore, as for sentencing, I had no priors and I can prove it with my pretrial service investigation report. I did 5 years because I would not cooperate, it is that simple. I am currently being prosecuted and Tony Serra is my attorney, specifically because I would not cooperate yet again, after being raided in conjunction with Oaksterdam University and my old friend Richard Lee in 2012. As one week after the raid, I got a call from a very friendly police officer asking me if I would come down and cooperate, and I said no: 10 months later I received paperwork telling me to come on down to state court to go around again. At this point in my life I am numb to the system and have no fucks to give, I am proud that I have stayed true to my friends and Dave is right about one thing, everything did end up really comfortable for me, mainly because I did not stop trying to pick myself up, dust myself off and be grateful that I was still breathing. Cancer did not get me down, and I'll be damned if this stupid plant prohibition is going to do it.

@HEMPxxx what is the smell and taste profile of your og? Do you have any full body pics in late veg and flower? Thanks for the help.

i'll take a cut. lets see how it rates next to some of the og cuts that are going around i.e. tahoe, sfv, octane, fire, face off etc...no reason to hoard any og strains nowadays, the differences between the best of the commonly available and the best of the "tightly held" is minimal if the samples are treated the same.

I dont knoe where the og came from but i know it hit sac in 08 09 and nothing got me high like that since that early 90 skunk bud from jr high u dont have to beleive me but i got my first og cut in 08 and these guys in Sacramento didnt know wat kush was ask the original despenseries in sac they remember my fat ass with that real old school og gas

another story teller comes online in 2015 with all the o.g facts ..... from the halls of the canna castle talking jack herer when jack was created much later ..... and with this vast knowledge abounding the underground crew, how the hell did oregon kid come online with so much bullshit. the crew knows jack herer genetics but lets oregon kid out of the bunker thinking bubba was a bubble gum cross. it's an ibl, a rookie breeder would understand this also.

og kush has thai or haze in it that is a fact, node spacing, growth in flower, ect ...... recessive traits spring forth in new crosses unique phenols.......

or maybe the ruderelas .... ? but i'm sure nev went over this in your conversations ..... hmmmm

I did a series of back crosses with NL5, HP and G13. I did this because I didn't have siblings to use. NL5 was a sport. The brothers couldn't deliver.
I used a Ruderalis for the NL5, picking the male carrying the R factor, which gave pollen at the fourth internode. Four generations a year. The 5th generation, ulimately was the best. I should have gone brother to sister at that point, but I thought it would continue to get better. I went to 8 backcrosses. What I learned was that after gen 4, the results were more dependant on the individual male, than the number of back crosses.

I used NL1 males for the HP and NL2 males for the G13. None of the back crosses ever produced a plant as good as the mother, although the NL5 came closest. Vigour was lost in all cases.

Alright, I'm just about to run an experiment with these different og, or supposedly different ones. They are all around 10 inches right now and here are the different og's: fire, sfv, sky walker, original, hardcore, boss, platinum, and ghost.

I am doing this to see which cuts are identical and which one I like the most. Maybe it can help clear up any confusion.

To be honest.. I've never read a better description of the 'Herer bud' on the net in the 16 yrs or so that i've been researching strain descriptions.

You can research taste online of strains then repeat them ........ i could describe floral blush undertones , bla, bla, bla, fanciful descriptions for marketing. i ran a drum scanner in 1988, about 40 adjustments per color at the time, worked for one of the first firms using beta photoshop, and worked for a marketing firm. I started retouching magazine photo's, color, in 92 so I fully understand the power of marketing and all facets it used in selling. Just finished a web site for a business two days ago ....

I'll i'm asking is critical thinking. If your selling underground in a big way, your not worried about breeding money is your focus & yield per square meter. Jack herer was indeed made with nevil's genetics but it was created after his downfall, jail then selling out to dronkers in 91'. Not at the castle ......... lol. Herer was not created until after this, cup in 94 i think. Nobody said og came from Jack. Nevil said jack & diesel shared a single parent, not both.

In and out of jail, no money, but woody harelson gives him $500,000, inflation velocity its like giving someone $1,500,000.00 today. Who the fuck is gonna give someone that much money because they supply good smoke ????? LOL' woody fucking harelson did not even live in the country at the time ..... Woody is a nature freak, really caring person worried about natural resource depletion.

And the issues with the law. In and out of jail for years at a time and who the hell ran the garden after all these bust & they never found the o.g. ???? lol'

And what is og. kush in his words. Detailed breeding knowledge lets go ?........ nope just its grown indoor by a select few.

But I would bank on haze or thai being a large percentage as sativa's provide the great soaring high, ........ but as you can see with nevil and ruderella, afghani kush, kush 4, someone could have used those. Or looking back at the original g13 cutting ..... early pearl ...... ???

But stretch during flower, structure, high scream haze or thai ..... Nevil said the thai is what made haze special, the last inline parent, but also talks about strains crossing with the same haze parent ( a or c ) causing issues. So who knows on this front. Small yield, hmmmmmm so n.l. 5 not really a chance of being an f1 parent because of yield. A polyhybrid, tossing a one off phenol ..... ????

The original og when selfed would show a good amount of variation like an f2 ....., like oregon kids s1's ..... bottle necked but should / would kick out expressions. But if your selfing an S22 lol ........ who knows ...., not so much at this point.
