Yes, you can use the baking soda but there's no way I would just put it on top of the soil, too easy to go too far the other direction. In terms of pH you're REALLY close to the edge, so go SUPER easy on the baking soda and give the pH plenty of time to come up.

I believe your problem is mainly you. The world has to make it bigger better and soon the will GMO weed to the point you have to feed with and I V. Too much chemistry to many different veriables your not trying to get to mars just grow a Weed, that has grown for a million years with out you. Grow it like a weed not like a phd college boy would and you will have better weed.
When you mix so many chemicals because you read or heard it helps . So you add it to your formula and there is one thing in two of your additives that don't mix well and you chase your tail for 10 weeks. When the top leaves come bent and twisted but straighten out can be a mix of your nutrients or something in the media it can even be the strain.
I add things when the plant calls for it Sea started me on this path with one of here 20K of posts. If you add a bunch of stuff, then when you do have a problem is masked and made to look like something else, you treat it doesn't seem to work so you try more and more then flush and that plant is maybe 1/2 what it could have been.
I use jacks +sweet and if they are from a week strain I add silica. I use cap's moab mixed my self. and citric acid for ph with jacks I seldom use.
I used to be an overwater and I read cocojoe now I use coco and my plants look good even at the end some of the fan leaves look like rusty car parts. But if you care for the plants wait for them to show what the need. You will be better off,
I see a bunch of these mixtures that mix kelp and alfalfa. If you get that mixture just right you will produce a plant that looks like bamboo and I have never tried but bet is harsh as heack. If you hit the third to make 3 of the stretch hormones in your formula like Tri being the third you will have some very strange plants. The three hormones your messing with are mixed in very very low quanity ppm and if you hit it just right I once grew a Northern lights plant that was over 30' tall and 15' wide was something out of a syfy movie but it smoke ok buzz was good tasted like cardboard. Why do humans think they no better than the Great Lady Ma Nature. When she is tired of us screwing with her grow she will wipe us and start over with Just WEEDS

Your right there bro the problem is me. Probably me putting cal/mag in soil with organic nutes lol :-( Things are'nt too bad but ph was very low and im beginning to see some deficiencies that i would prefer to address now before they get out of hand. I agree what your saying about nature :-)

That was not meant as a dix bro I was that way when I came here and no one is always right. Take it all in and adapt ,improvise, only those who will not see are blind. Unneeded Cal-mag leads to ++N when you get to flower they will look real bad last 3 weeks.

I have only one thing to say welcome to the clan you will be a keeper.

In your situation I came here. I read and spent hours in the infirmary the pictures have helped me learn what is really causing the problem. You will get good at pictures. You should grow in a media of your choice I started with all kind of great soil mixtures, but ended reading a lot of cocojoe and use coco just as it comes out of the bag. I have used all the mixtures but where I am the temperature problem with the weird humidity the gulf coast can bring. I ended with just coco I get less deficiencies and the plants look much better at the end. I also control my water temperature and keep it close to 72 degrees the court is still out about helping with the heat but is looking like an increase in output. If you use catch pans under your plants they don't like wet feet even a little bit and remember if it sits there and evaporates in the plastic catch pan the liquid there will become consecrated fast and that is very bad.
If you do try coco add it to the tub mix I add to my garden and is good stuff.

I was going to do a coco grow but took @Seamaiden advice to do soil first time grow :) which im glad i did as ive had temp issues and all sorts :) learning all the other stuff at the same time would have been a chore. Looking forward to doing coco next, got 5 fem Northern lights seeds ready :) Since ive been on this site ive learned so much in a short amount of time and am so grateful to all those who have helped so far including your good self :) Im having temp issues as well, its very hot here at the moment so no respite for the plants lol even with cooltube :(. But they are looking cool, apart from the fact i've had to pull them out into day light because my one and only ballast blew on me :-( But guys at hydro shop were very good and have sent a replacement straight out to me. Hopefully wont F*@ck them up having light change in light schedule, will just get them locked back into 18 - 6 for a week or 2 before switching to 12 - 12 :) Ive actually set up a rack system so my plants are raised from water run off, ill post pic. Probably have to lower it a brick though as im losing 8 inches from my height, and these girls are,nt hanging around they getting pretty tall, if i dont flower soon they might stretch too high. Any ways thanks agin hermit186 :)

Sea is the best and she is easy to read I wished I wrote as well. Can't remember who got me into this one but get a small desk type oselating fan like 6 or 8" place so it blows at pot height and it will help with bugs and molds if you keep it blowing where the leaves just move a little you will end a large part of bug problems. I am confined in a conex and I learned that moving air spiders mites don't like it. There is chemistry for it and some use it but I do the natural defense I put 100 ladybugs in there and just watched now I have to kill some off because the are doing fine. I also use Praying mantis get the cases and let them go. If you have any LED's the mantis look drunk when they fly the color messes with there eyes but they eat anything that crawls.

Yes shes been very helpful, and knows her stuff :-) Ive got a oscilating fan but you cant see it in pic. I dont seem to have any bug probs at the moment but woodland right next to grow will be holding many willing participants to invade my grow :-) The bugs fighting pests sounds good proper organic pest control :-) Good on ya bro :-)
