Sweet! Buddy stopped by with a bag of shrooms and a slant of south american cubensis.

These are some nice looking golden teachers. Some big bastards in here.

Also getting quite a bit of action in the jars. I think its popping up in spots from rolling the grain around so much trying to get the agar to the side. So far no off colors or anything too unusual looking.

Good to know. I kind of assumed thats what was happening but at this stage in the hobby im still nervous about every damn thing lol.
So far all the jars have decent colonization happening, ill probably give them a few more days and then give them a little shake.

Yeah, it is very similar to how a mold culture would present itself, but, from the looks of it, I'm inclined to believe it's from the agar culture.
Which means it's a nice culture and that grain is especially hospitable. I'll get that often if I have to shake the wedge around, but usually still pretty tiny specks even by the time the wedge has colonized half the jar.
Really makes me wanna try wheat...

My buddy here tonight said wheat was a good choice for the faster colonization time. And that often with wheat even if there is some minor contamination that the mycellia will just plow over it because its colonizing so aggressively. Especially if there is a lot of rhizomorphic mycellia. Smart dude, he definitely has his shit on lockdown. Has tons of strains stored in slants, hundreds of agar petries, does a lot with liquid culture, clones by taking biopsies of the fruits with a draw needle... He's also gonna help me put together a flow hood at some point when the time and funds become available.

And yeah a lot of the jars i got the agar to the side no prob, but a couple got shaken up pretty good, i assume those are the jars with all the sattelite colonies.

These are basically three sperate G2G runs, the back row were innoculated this morning with colonized birdseed spawn. 1 pint jar split 6 ways.. the middle row was last week's Grain 2 Grain and the front rows been two weeks..

Once the mycelium looks strongly rhizromorphic I shake my share to heaven and back.. I never worry about hurting my population of myc people.. they always link back up😁🤙

It looks like normal pc'd birdseed now, but in two days.. this jar will be 100% myceliated.
Ready for bulk spawning or more Grain 2 Grain expansion..

These are all multi spore innoculations, three sperate sub species of cubensis.. once I fruit jars.. I'll clone to agar the cluster formations of each separate sub species and then put those clone wedges to more birdseed and start the G2G expansion process all over except with chosen prime genetics.. this goes for most all fungi..

When you say multispore? You mean syringe or an MS agar culture?
Not bad for 1:12, but I'd expect a little faster colonization and suspect something might be inhibiting. That could be as simple as temperature or moisture content, however.

Multi spore syringe, I shut everything down for a year or so and have just started back up, I'll pour agar a week before my tubs fruit and I'll go from there..

This go around I just soaked the bird seed for roughly 3 days, after it was cleaned of floaters and debris and the dust on it of course.. I didn't simmer it, after I pc'd the grain it appeared darker than my usual wbs, in my mind that ment it had a lower moisture content, but I had to run with it so....that might be reason for slower growth..plus wifey keeps the house between 65-71 all winter so.. that's also reason for slow growth..

Nice! I did the same and the folks here lured me back into it. I'm glad they did - I love mycology so much.

Yeah, below 68 is where I notice them slow down. My house is roughly 65-68... I've had spores on a plate for almost a week without germinating... probably have to set up a little warm incubating area.
Bacteria is almost inevitable in syringes, too. But, from a good vendor, it'll be so little that they just slow up the mycelium a little. Should be nice and easy to knock out once on agar.

Im a big fan of sporeworks, I usually only use syringes to get off the ground. Then I'll fruit ms tubs and clone prize genetics to agar.. and from there I'll only wedge noc more grain jars and transfer wedges to more dishes to keep those lines running.. I don't usually use syringes after the initial start up.. but I love collecting them😁🤙

Same. Although, I do have a nasty habit of sometimes getting carried away with way too many cultures... It's cool to see what different strains from the same syringe will do.. but, man, it turns into just inventory maintenance with growing being a necessary side-project.

I hear ya, 🤣 before my shutdown.. the guest bedroom was no longer a bedroom.. it was literally a lab, and "please don't come in your bringing in contaminates!"

Well im just buzzing on shrooms hanging out in the living room with the fam around the fireplace, and nobody knows any wiser lol.

These GTs are noice... Making my phone look super weird and hard to type on...
