Ok ive got a story/rant. Its a bit long so ill try and edit it to be as to the point as i can.
I started a business and gave notice to leave my job a couple months ago with my last day to be march 12th. . I was/am the superintendent at a 9 hole golf club, but I do a lot more than just that. Im the grounds superintendent, crew supervisor responsible for all hiring and training, The ONLY mechanic, the irrigation technician and repair guy, Pesticide/fertilizer applicator, responsible for all budgeting and ordering, its a lot to manage... I wear a lot of hats and do a lot of paperwork. Since 2008 Ive done this job for 40K Cdn per year, +/- 2K.
I agreed to stay on until March so that the new hire would have maintained machines to use and give the club time to find someone to replace me. I ONLY agreed to stay on because ive been here for 12 years, and dont want to burn bridges in a small community, and really didnt want to leave them high and dry.
To add context, 2018-2019 I experienced pretty wicked PTSD as an officer with 10 years on a fire dept, in those last 2 years I attended/was first on scene for the traumatic death of a fellow FF and good friend.. I was the search team leader for a small plane crash into the forest that claimed 3 people, and other traumatic deaths and injuries on FR calls. I was the Duty officer in charge of most of it for several years and it kinda twisted me up. 2019 my Mother died from altzheimers, months later my Father died from cancer and a month after that my pseudo father/work mentor died with both cancer and dementia.
I hit the psychologist for a few visits and put my priorities in order. But i spiralled for a bit for sure. Work took a hit as i realized i was getting screwed, with lame pay an no benefits besides free golf, and i fucking hate golf... So to that, guaranteed my employers have noticed a lack of me giving a fuck about their shit lately lol.
There is only so much they can expect from me. Anyway, I got back from vacation to my shop flooded with water pouring through the foundation, and the 40 year old shingle roof is leaking and covered in moss 6" thick.
It was like that when i started. I've recommended a new roof every year for the last 12 years.. My ceiling is dripping water on the workbench and It stinks in here. It has no heat besides a woodstove.
Check this out. This was when i came in and as i was working its splashing on my tools from the ceiling. I sent my "boss" these pics and said the place is cold and wet... This is bullshit.
