I’m on my first run using 2 of the 1700e’s (w/controller). As I haven’t found much info out there, SSHZ’s grow threads have been extremely helpful in reducing the learning curve here. The attached clip was taken a week and a half ago on the day I flipped to 12/12. Gelato Mint. I’m keeping the lights high for a larger footprint and adjusting power to 93% to keep it about 1000-1100 ppfd at the hottest point. Ppfd measurements via the Korona ap so accuracy is pretty questionable. Not sure I can run these beasts at 20” off the canopy at 100% - I think it might be too much for them?

I own two 1000 watters and two 600 watters, all with shields so it's a no cost thing. I've given it some thought tonight and I think my plan is to run the LED's as normal, at 48 inches (well, normally it's 36 inches) AND put a 600 watter just above the LED on each side. My only concern is heat and I'll have to see how that goes. But it will only be til flowering, or maybe 1 week into flowering- then I'll remove them.

I think those who have been following along with all 3 LED threads could feel it was only a matter of time before I start experimenting with an LED/HPS mix- it just feels right now to do it since I'm feeling better and am interested how it will go.

I'd be curious to see some comments as to what people think may happen, good or bad. I only see the upside, what am I missing on the downside? I don't care about the increase in electricity since it's only for a few weeks.

I worry that will be too much light. 🤷‍♂️

So long as you have a dimmer, it sounds like an interesting data point.

The heat might actually be good in winter.

Cohi....... once you get into budding, absolutely lower the LED's to 20 inches. Gavita recommends 18 inches, which I saw a negaitive reaction to. But at 20 inches, it was perfect. Maybe slowly lower them from 26-28 inches while paying close attention to the plants and every couple of days go down another inch or two. By my observations, it's easy to tell when the plants are screaming TOO MUCH and then back it up 2 inches and you're good to go.

I can always raise both lights if need be, and next week I'll work on the Master Controller and adapters so I can dim if need be. To be honest, I'm way more concerned about too much heat than too much light. I can only control the heat issue to a point, as the light I can raise to 8 feet if necessary.

Yeah I mean you know what TOO MUCH looks like, so it should be fine. In general, that's the thing to worry about though imo.

Appreciate that. I’m in stretch now at 12 days in. Pistols appeared on day 8. As I recall you were running 100% right?

I think the heat issue is just with the close proximity to the plants.i have no problem with heat in the room .the exhaust takes care of that..if my ceiling was higher id have no problem ..

This isn't necessarily true. The room temps could well be in the 90's, I won't know until they're up and running. I may put 1 up first, run it an hour, and see where the temps go. Then decide about the second one. We're in unknown territory here.

Im getting tacoeing on edges .leaves getting drier than lower ones..my below canopy is cooler than what it is between the light and plants..my heat probe is at canopy if i move it away from light it reads less..the intensity and heat coming from a gavita 400 volt is pretty hot lol..using silica has helped with dealing with it..

@BillFarthing touched on in another thread using too much k can lockout calcium.ive used it right through flowering with no affects to calcium uptake.but what i will do is when i hit them with pk 13/14 i will stop using it.im using .2ml per litre npk is 0 0 10..
