It really is one of the most interesting and best written stories i know. Plus what other science fiction writer gets Will Smith chased by a 1000 robots?

Have you read neuromancer? Another book largely involving drug experiences that is sci-fi. Coinage of the term cyberspace.

Yes a long time ago. My best friend is a writer and psychologist and he had an amazing set of paperbacks on multiple book shelves in his room when we were in high school. His collection covered most of the well known and not so well known science fiction writers.

Somebody posted a pic of 3 aliens with giant heads a while ago, might have been another thread even. But my mind immediately flashed to The Gods Themselves before realizing it was from Star Trek. Foundation kept me entertained so much I read the series more than once. Asimov has been my favorite since my teens.

Nice! I never did read the gods themselves. Did the foundation series though....

I'd say my five favorite science fiction books in some order are Neuromancer by Gibson (one of the best prose stylists alive imo...the way he uses material and texture is 10/10), Anathem by Neal Stephenson (this is a bit of a deeper cut, i think Cryptonomicon, Diamond Age, and Snow Crash are all easier to get into but Anathem plays with language in a delicious way), Solaris by Lem (Tarkovsky movie is awesome too....this is my fav alien), Revelation Ark from Alastair Reynolds (brilliant mind, incredibly complex, gives great hard sci-fi), aaaaand let's say Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan (moody cyberpunk trash).

Those are all books i have read at least twice and Neuromancer is dozens.... I studied it intensively when i was writing fiction more regularly.

He actually joined a new york street gang in the 50s and then got himself arrested and incarcerated in the “tombs”. The new york city prison. And wrote a double book about it all. I loved that story. But i cant think of the book title.
