In tobacco growing its known that magnesium is a key nutrient to have present in the soils during ripening to maintain that glowing orange cherry on the tip of a burning cigar or cigarette.
One thing I've noticed with this crop is just how well my joint stays lit. It burns with a clearly defined cherry with no runs, ignites instantly, and the heat retention is incredible. The recent joints I've smoked stay lit for ages between puffs.
