Hahaha...I've seen so many posts and all the let downs. I don't even know if what I have is the "roadkill" of the 90s yet. That's why I called it by it's real name, Super Skunk. We never called it roadkill skunk because roadkill is redundant. It smelled like a a rotting skunk on the road, or a skunk that just sprayed. But it was just called Skunk or Super Skunk around here. I never heard the term roadkill skunk until searching the internet, looking for "the old skunk."

Roadkill skunk is just a description, not any one strain or phenotype. It is also a marketing term used in the cannabis industry to make $. We've all seen a lot of examples of the industry bastardizing terms and products, renaming strains, the works.

I'm not a big time breeder, I don't sell clones on the web, I'm not looking to cash in on some shangri-la strain. I don't even want recognition or people to know who I am lol. I know it exists, I've smoked it, I've seen it growing. I want to find it and preserve it, and smoke some with everybody.

What I do know is that this came from a very reputable source. Their family has been growing cannabis for many generations. Also, being on the reservation, they weren't subjected to the iron fist of the law like many of us. So if there's any place it would be safe, it would be on the reservations, or deep in the mountains/hollers/farmlands, away from prying eyes and noses.

I made the conscious decision to get rid of the Sour Diesel in early 2010s, because I had to protect my interests and not get busted. I didn't know as much back then, and I should've kept it side by side with my other strains. One of the hardest lessons I've had to learn about preserving old genetics.

There is no doubt in my mind this is the real Super Skunk. I'd guess that it's the parent of the Mass Super Skunk, but I didn't speak to the grower directly about it yet. Hard to say just based on seeing it in person, because we're in the northeast and very close to Mass.

One thing I can say for sure is that I indeed have a 90s super skunk in my possession, a 30 year old heirloom clone.

What you got on stem rub, and leaf smell?
So as I was driving with the plants, I smelled nothing but skunk, which is a tell tale sign of the old skunk. None of my strains smell that strong in veg. Got them to a safe place and got them under a light, sprayed them down and put a fan on them. I didn't know about that stem rub trick until seeing comments about it in here. I rubbed the stem and it was foul. Smells exactly like a skunk. Very faint smell of weed, but very pronounced skunk. The leaves however, smell like an overpowering cat piss / ammonia. Somewhat skunky but more like cat piss.

There's no doubt in my mind this is the real deal Super Skunk. Is it the 90s "roadkill" skunk that everybody remembers? Can't say for sure. I will be flowering clones from both of the moms ASAP. Did the stem rub on both of them, and I'm about 95% positive they're the same pheno.

That catpiss ammonia vibe is legit IMO. The skunkiest most potent Esther alcohol strains Ives smelled from decades past had that ammonia sting on nose. I’m stoked for you bro 🤘🔥

That's great to hear!! I was surprised at the cat piss smell at first. Wasn't expecting it, I was expecting the skunk smell, like the stems. I was a little skeptical once I smelled the leaves haha. It really smelled like a cat pissed on the plant. I literally just sprayed the plants though, so if it was an actual cat's piss, it wouldn't still be there. I started looking for photos of the cat piss plant, and looking up pictures of the super skunk plant to see if I really had the Super Skunk. There's no doubt in my mind this is a legit 90s Super Skunk.

Yeah it's crazy how much the plant stinks just in veg. That's what I remember about the skunk from back in the day. Even tiny plants that were just starting out had a very strong smell.

Posted a couple pics on the page before this, but these are day 3 since I picked them up.

The one is really healthy. The bigger one was rootbound and needed a little love. I just transplanted them into bigger pots. The bigger one has a decent amount of clones I can take right now so will be putting them in the cloner in the next couple days.

What's confusing is Leafly and a couple other sites classify Super Skunk as indica dominant, but some say it's sativa dominant haha. To me the leaves most resemble the photo of the Massachusetts Super Skunk, which was a sativa phenotype found in Super Skunk seeds. (3rd photo leaves look very similar.)

So I'd say it's definitely Super Skunk, I'm just not sure which specific pheno.

It's too hard to tell just from photos. I'll have to talk to the grower and get more of the backstory on it. They had already left by the time I got to the dispensary to pick up the plants. Next time I stop out there I'll get some more info on it.

Man I grew out Afghan kush which is listed as 85% Indica and 15% ruderalis on Fast Buds as they were my first and only autos so far. But 3 of the 4 all came out looking like Sativas and the buzz was the same I had one that was Indica dominate. With seeds I’ve come to realize it’s a toss up lol

There's a lot of conflicting info online about strains. Many are listed as both indica and sativa dominant by different sites like leafly, wiki leaf, seedfinder, seed banks, etc. Could be due to different phenos, or different sources with the same strain names. Without any genotype/ genetic testing, it's hard to guarantee any strain is x% sativa / x% indica. Even then, it's usually based on the parents lineage, or how the plant grows.

I can't pinpoint it just by the description & photos, so will keep calling it "90s super skunk" until we can get some more info on it. That's what the tag at the dispensary said, and they had multiple different strains available. They're not the type of people to rename strains, I trust that the names are correct. They'd be selling their clones for more than $25 each if they were looking to take advantage of people 🤣

Also I have heard people say that there are "narrow leaf" indica strains as well. Not as common but I've heard some strains that test as indica dominant can have a recessive trait that produces narrow leafs. So this means that the leaf shape can be utilized to identify the strains most of the time but not always. Sometimes there can be exceptions to the rule.

Yes, the balkh afgani from kalifa has the fat leaf phenos, and the narrow leaf highland phenos.

Yes, the iranian is a short fat plant. But has narrow leaves. And also finishes aug/sept.
