Shady's Multi-Quote FTW...

Wow! :icon_dizzy: First, let me say thanks for all of the support, good karma, and kind words... I will do my best to put on a good show and keep it real. Let's hope for the best as I get my feet wet and try to keep my head above water... :poolparty

Second, as most of you know from reading my other threads, I generally don't respond until I have an update ready with photos... Well, it's been a hectic week with the Round 8 Harvest, Round 9 Final Flush, holidays, job search, and an upcoming wedding, but the UC show is almost ready to rock... I also realized that this first run in the Under Current will actually be Round 11 since I'm going to flip the switch on my Top Dawg Seeds Guava 13 Test grow (Round 10) in the next few days, while the UC is veggin' for at least a week or two... :thinking

Alright Shady! Congrats on the bad ass new system. I know you have been looking forward to this one. I know you will work it well! Way to kick it off man!:rauch08:
Right on TF! I appreciate the confidence and I hope to pull off a successful first UC run as I've been reading every UC thread on The Farm since Texas Kid opened my eyes...

beautiful brotha!! tag ur it!!! lol.. im riding along for the show.. good luck! not like you need it!!
Whaddup brah! Ohh man... I been away and some drama went down? Hope to see you back for the show...

Nice pics makes me want to setup my UC6 :)
What's good logic!!! Thx for the compliments my friend... And thx for making The Farm a great place to learn from others while camping for the hot drops on the Bay... Hopefully you'll be setting up your UC6 and rocking those Magnum XXXL's once again!

Don't need a 90/elbow for that wood frame & drain. Instead, get a 3/4" slip to threaded 3/4" (or whatever is equivalent to a garden hose), connect that to where your return dumps into the epicenter & let the return pump do the draining for you. Call Dan @ CC, he'll know what you need. Bon Voyage UC Shady!
Thx for the advice bud! I think Dan provided me with the hose connection you mentioned... Let's hope I can rock this setup as well as you did...

Great way to start the thread Shady! Nice setup and with you at it's helm... You'll be rocking super dank out of it in no time!

Can't wait to see this one unfold.
Gracias amigo! I'm stoked to finally turn on the pumps and see what madness awaits me in the next couple of months...

what up shady - all right bro - glad your almost up and running

did you use a ball valve for your drain instead of the hose fitting?
Hey hey brah! I'm riding your coat tails... Gotta copy your bad ass double trellis for the second time since I first saw it... Ahh, the ball valve is what came with my system for the drain, but I think I'll just leave it closed and use mcpuffin's idea of draining via the return pump as I've read many others drain this way...

& The wait is over...

Let the show begin!
Thx buddy! Almost there... Almost...

Nice work as always. Thanks for sharing so that we all can learn. Look forward to seeing what the current brings in.
Glad you like my lengthy journals Snowblind... This one is dedicated to those small timers, like myself, that just want to rock a stock UC under 1kW or 2kW... Although I might upgrade the air pump and air stones on the second run...

Sweet your just about up and running
Nice clean room bro
That part mcpuffin talking about is in your little bag of fittings and shit. It comes with the UC. Screw that bottom drain
Get some plants in
BG
Thx BG!!! I finally got into that little bag of goodies... And you're right... it's time for some plants in the net pots...

Nice Lookin Set Up! Im pullin up a chair to watch you rock ur new system!
Thx Baddog! Glad you could join me in my Current Culture adventure...

Welcome to the club.

big-blue.jpg

The future is grand. :yes
Fuck yeah! I've been waiting to join this club for over a year now... It's nice to have a veteran like you along for the maiden voyage...

Whooooop!!!

can't wait to see you blow this up Shady!

goodluck on this round homie...as said, you prob don't need luck, but good luck anyhow
Yo sfzoo!!! I'll take all the luck I can get... It's been a struggle to get to this level from my ghetto beginnings, but I'm finally here...

Yeah buddy.
Word! Gotta keep my eyes on the prize...

Nice Bro! Looking Good!!!
My good friend... I owe you many thanks... So thanks again!

Nice & well planned . Bound to make some heads turn :) I'm all in !!
Thx bro... As much as I'd love to pimp out my grow room, I just realize I have to get this round going and successfully completed... Then I can really make all the plans in my head a reality...

killer setup
It's pretty sweet! Wait till you see it with all the connections made and before it's covered with Indica nugs...

Couldn't find this last night...
Ahh there it is... It must have been hidden behind your current forest...

After too many hours in the sun, there's nothing better than stepping into a nice Shady spot....looking forward to seeing this go down. Happy holidays for certain.
Thank you and Dan very much for the support, patience, and understanding... It's been a long time and this thread is going to be well documented. Hopefully I'll be rocking another UC next to this one in a year or sooner...

ITS SHADY TIME!! im ridin my dude!
Sup winta my man! It's always nice to have you along for the ride with your postive vibes and good karma...

Finally! what strains you planning to run?

Tdawg
Thx again for the support Tdawg... Are we gonna see your UC setup soon?

What a profound question.

Well Shady, we all know that you love esperimentin with alots of different strains.
Does that mean a whole new process of strain selections based on the UC? Or are you turning a new leaf?:giggle

-TF
I will try my best to monocrop the UC with five Master Kush x Bubba Kush, and a single Master Kush x The White...

Looks like he already answered your question Tdawg and TF. Lookin good shady, cant wait to see wut you do with a single 1000w in the UC, thats the most i could run in my small space (and high power bill) so it will be awesome to see whats possible from a solid grower like yourself.
I'm flattered by your kind words nMEEKS, but I'm gonna do my best to increase my yield as that's definitely my weak spot when running multiple strains...

Looks very clean bro! I been checkin' out a few dif setups. What is the yeild like in this set up on average? Keep us posted on this show.
Thx man! Well, a lot of the UC grows (I've read) have tons of watts, including a mix of vertical and/or horizontal lighting, and larger o.c. bucket spacing... I'm really focused on simply completing my first UC run successfully under 1000W, but I won't complain if my yield is even slightly better than my previous rounds under 600W...

Right on Shady, Wishing you success!
Thx leadsled! In a couple of rounds I'm gonna work on dialing in my coco DTW and maybe by then I'll have a slick multiple res and manifold setup like yours...

Good luck Shady, setup looks great.

P.S. - can't get that track outta my head now :)
Awesome! At least I know someone read the lyrics... Thx for the well wishes Bobby!

The only concern I have is that you didn't use treated wood. Most likely you wont have any water issues, but if you do that wood will probably get moldy. Room temp, moisture, humidity is everything it needs to flourish after a small flooding.
Ahh, yes... From one Engineer to another... I concur with your concern. Actually I had wrapped enough plastic around the wood frame so that I could tape the joint for a waterproof seal... I just need to find the proper tape for the job...

Shady looking good. What else you plan on doing to get this thing where it needs to be? Can't wait to see the young ones go in those buckets. I'm here for the ride.
Thx for cruising along Stu! My next update will show some of my progress and I should have plants in the buckets in the next day or so... After that I will run my 1000W at 500W dimmed on the Quantum digital ballast during veg while I install the duct work and Can Filter...

sweet looking setup bro!
you're gonna kill it in the UC :rock
Thx waayne! It's looking even better with all the pumps and filled with RO...

cant wait for the outcome!
Me too! Thx for checking out my thread bluewaves...

looking good. ill be pulling up a chair!
Thx bud... Let' hope this show is worthy of yourmomsfav...

apartment grow alright!
Hmmm, not quite... This is in a spare bedroom of my single family detached house in a gated community... Owning my house means no landlord or surprise maintenance inspections... Thx for the props in any event!

Love the carpet saver man, I have always used a tarp...and hoped for the best. I will be incorporating a frame next time I have carpet to protect, simple and effective.
Looking forward to the show :movie
FJ
Hey Farmer Jon! Glad you're here... I would have used a pond liner, but this was a cheap solution for the first run...

cant wait to see what you can do with this. jah bless
I hope I can do this system justice... Thx for the good karma JAHGYDI!

Shady bro! Stoked for ya man! I cant wait to see the master bubba produce! This is awesome man! Nothing but respect brother.
What's crackin' TortureKill? I sure hope that the MxB does well... And hopefully we'll get to see some of your work in the future...

Shady are you using that pro-tekt as pH up or foliage? Been wanting to mess with a little silica but never got to it.

Tdawg
I've never used it, but I plan on using it as a pH up at no more than 50 PPM, then I will add base (pH up) if needed...

:whew Almost missed this one. Sub'd. Nuff said.
No worries ron! This may become a perpetual grow thread if things go well...

Wow am I the slow old 1.....standing room only in here i see....I will stand here for this show...rock it Shady!!!
Thx brah! No need to stand... There's plenty of seats for all...

I am subscribed, let's see you rock the house! :lock:
Thx Bud! I'll give it my best shot... BTW, I'm still drooling over those dope reservoirs of yours...

Like the clean look.
Thx GP2B! Gotta keep things organized before the girls make a mess in the room...

Pulling up a seat for this one!
Damn... That's a bad ass seat!

Pro start Shady, now get some bitches in there! :)
No doubt St3ve! I've got some pretty ladies ready for a dip in the water...

Hey man nice set up, im currently building a setup omost exactly the same UnderCurrent 6 under 2 thousands with house and garden nutes... Good luck too ya ill be watching
Thx brah... Are you gonna use diff spacing on the buckets? I'd think that 2000W would be a tight fit on the UC6...

Your going to love this system, Dan is the man for UC
Dan is def the man and I was in love with this system when I first saw it... Thx for stopping by farmer ed!

hell yea Shady, stoked to see you got your UC setup started!!
Yeah man, I'm stoked and gonna get this show moving along much faster now...

Amazing, Don't need luck when "U got the Glow", Vibin bro, Peace SSP
Sup Shiva! Thx for the kind words as always... I'm just trying to shine as bright as I can...

Nice!

:animbong:
:whew Thx brah... I made it to the end, and finally used another smilie... :anim_44:

Shady Update...

:time Well, I finally setup all the connections, including the 1/10 hp JBJ Arctica Chiller, Danner Mag-Drive Supreme 3 (350 GPH Water Pump), Pondmaster AP-40 (Air Pump), 9” Air Diffuser Disc, Elite Air Stones, Air Distribution Manifold, Air Hose, and Adjustable Float Valve. I did not have an In-Line Filter and will prob need some type of screen at each end of the PVC return manifold to prevent roots from obstructing the water pump…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent60.jpg

Here’s a view of the Epicenter with the disc diffuser, float valve, and return pump diffuser. To the left is the air pump…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent61.jpg

This is an overview of the chiller location with the intake closest to the airpump and exhaust vent furthest from the UC6…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent62.jpg

I located the return pump one bucket further away from the epicenter to allow for working space…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent63.jpg

Now a birds eye view of the air pump and air distribution manifold…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent64.jpg

A closer look at the airline that splits from the air pump, to feed the air distribution manifold and the disc diffuser…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent65.jpg

This is the airline connection to the disc diffuser…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent66.jpg

Ok, after filling the system with water and installing all of the Elite air stones, I noticed that one valve of the air distribution manifold was defective so I switched the line as there are 6 extra slots that needed to be closed for sufficient air flow…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent68.jpg

Also if you look closely at the 5” net pot, it is wet about 1/3 from the bottom as I’ve filled all the buckets to the lip and you can see the bubbles in one of the 8 gal buckets…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent69.jpg

Finally, this last shot of the Epicenter shows the water level at the lip as water is returned from the chiller through the return pump diffuser. The float valve will probably be connected to my Hydrologic RO Stealth 100, but I may install a top-off res in the near future…
http://i1083.invalid.com/albums/j390/ShadyUnderCurrent/UnderCurrent67.jpg

My only concern is that the bubbles in the Epicenter and each bucket seem to be relatively minimal compared to some videos I’ve seen… I’m not quite sure if this is being caused by the length of each air line to the Elite air stones, wherein I cut all 6 airlines to be equal length and have extra line that could easily be reduced… :thinking

go with a top off res bro - it does not make sense to add r/o and then have to hassle with adding nutes and adjusting ph - which isnt recommended anyhow

you dont want to overshoot and then be scrambling to correct - nice and steady ph and ppm with top off res

all looks really good - what size air pump you rocking?

edit: I uhh went back and read - hmm my 8 came with an ap 100 - a 40 does seem a bit underpowerd

you went with the itty bitty netpots eh?

top off rez for sho if you can fit it, makes life extra easy. 55 gal drums are $50 on craigslist..

I have an AP40 on just the disk alone, so I would imagine an airpump upgrade could only help. Looking dope, though.

Are you running Co2? I didn't notice but if so it'll help to move the airpump outside too

Funny stuff how the worries have changed over the Years! Very nice set up! I like the neatness and attention to detail! Me thinks screens would be a good thing to keep hydroton and roots out of the pump for sure!

Why the extra long hose on the return pump?

oh hey, How loud is that Air pump? You outta get it out of the box, it makes heat and you should try and keep it cool. Those big air blowers blow hot air when they get hot, That's the downfall to those, Feel that steel manifold after that things been running awhile. How you guys dealing with that? I guess the chillers handling it. :harvest:

I have mine sitting on a milk crate right over one of my passive vents

my water temps have been steadily lower by at least 2 degrees (no chiller yet)
