Who wants to kill some root aphids?

That's a beast.

On a more practical level you might look a one of these electric soil sterilizers.
These range in different sizes for example an 1/8 cubic yard to a 1/2 cubic yard. I'm not sure what the biggest size is. Its basically an oven for soil.



You got me thinking DS last night. I'm gonna try this pasteurization with a couple of plants on a run and use beneficial nematodes from the get go and see if I can make through a run with no chemicals. Nematodes seem to help but I've always put them in too late. Then they're real easy to kill with chemical poisons as well. It would be cool to sterilize the soil, then apply nematodes, and just keep watering them in for the duration of the plant life. Seems like they'd work if you stayed true to a regimen. They can be pricy. I think you need a reliable source, too. Or know your getting a batch that's really going to live for 2 weeks in the fridge. Preventative maintenance. Ever try the nematodes? You gotta think these damn bugs are just coming in these store bought bags of soil. Root aphids and fungus gnats...

Update

The Sour D control plant is thriving after having nothing but Met 52 applied to its soil upon transplant. This plant was infested and I expected that she would die...



My other trial plants were not infested, so I was using the Met as a preventative here and things are looking good thus far.

Not my product. Just something we found and have been trying. It is available in CO now. Easy to get in Canada. You may have to do some searching but it is here.

Looking real healthy altimood! Are these in soil? have you been checking pots for sign of RA? And any update on the status of obtaining some of this product? seems to be doing the trick for y'all

These babes are in soil. I just got done hitting these with excite R last Monday because I found fliers throughout the 18 gallon containers. But these don't have the Met 52 (wish they did). But the plants are maintaining good health thus far. If your in Colorado you should be able to get Met soon. We're all kinda waiting. I'm hoping for another sample pack in a couple days for my 3 gallon coco pots.
I can't believe how well my Sour-D plant is doing. It was ridiculous how infested she was. Its had nothing but Met, as I said before. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know something.

I have zero flyers in here and have not found a dead RA in the res in the past week! Could it be?!?

Managed to get some Kushberry roots for ya. A little brown but still growing healthy and no bugs present that I can find. I think they are more stained by the nutrients than anything...

Nightmare is the word for it. It's tough to post a picture like that but that happened to me twice in the past year. All in the interest of science....

Ya that's a good one. Credit goes to the "wizard" in Cali. Dude grows massive soil bushes with the Teepee.

So today I start seeing a bunch of gigantic fungus gnats walking around the floor by the met plants. They are not flying and wondering around like zombies. So I toss one on a piece of tape and check it out under the scope. Low and behold it's entire abdomen is coated in fungus growing on it. I can't get a good scope picture. Can any of you guys get a flick and tell me if you are seeing this happen to your gnats?

2ml per gal of Evergreen 60-6 for the first 2 months of the grow, and foliar spraying with Sevin for the first 2 weeks worked for me. I also dunked the pots in a bucket of 2ml Evergreen in plain PH's RO water every three days for the first two weeks. This was like launching 100 nuclear tipped Tomahawk's at the Root Aphids in my RDWC system. There was no sign of them anymore after the first two weeks, all the new roots were nice and white, and they never came back.

I think the key is being able to keep the Evergreen in the res for the first half of the grow. My guess is that is what really finished them off.

Evergreen dunks and in the res with Sevin spray worked very well for me. I am in week 8 now with very healthy plants.

i had the same problem with root aphids!! the hydroponic guy suggested i use AzaMax!! got rid of those lil fuckers!!!

Looks like the Evergreen 60-6 is the same as the Excite R. The 60 is the Piperonyl Butoxide(PBO) (same) and the 6 is 6 % Pyrethrins (same). I find that products with PBO's are more effective. I don't think PyGanic has PBO's.

I hate these things too, and we need all the information we can get about how to take them out. What I did *seems* to have worked. I love the Rainforest for a 4x4 tent, but it's biggest drawback is that you can't get a look at the roots for the last month or so of a grow, even with only 20-24" plants. That was also when I stopped running 2ml of Evergreen in the res. The plants still show no signs of any problems (other than some recently slightly burnt tips from pushing up and backing off to begin the bud boost phase to "find the top", about 1250ppm), but I will see what the roots look like in about a week and a half when I chop them down. I'm pretty sure what I did totally wiped them out, but I had caught them early because they had destroyed my previous grow.

Next time around I am going to pre-emptively dunk the clones as they go in, and run 2ml of Evergreen up until the last month of the grow again. I won't use the Sevin unless I see bugs, which I doubt I will.
