Hi Farmers!

Harvested my multi-strain grow about two weeks ago and I'm quite happy now that I no longer have to buy my meds anymore.

White Widow came out fantastic! Dense, supasticky and gleaming! The yield was... Decent, I guess (2.31oz dry w/30g of sugar leaves that made 2g of ice hash). Is that good?

Anyway, my other plants got a decent yield but they are light and airy. Soft, flexable and aromatic. They are about 2 to 3 times the size of "Dense Nugs" though. They just didn't tighten up. No bag appeal compared to dispensaries... To say nothing of the awesome stuff I've seen posted here!

Was thinking that my mid-eighties temps and mid-high 40% RH may have been the reason. Maybe the All-Organic-Nutes? Will chemical nutes produce a denser bud than organic?

I know this is just my first grow, but I'm learning. Want to try and figure out this issue before i do it to more plants :). Got some great genetics On Deck and I want to post some pics here of my achievements :).

Thanks in advance guys

Peace

What kind of lighting? what strain? and how long did you let it go?
Density could have to do with strain or light intensity.

My buddy has been getting very airy and non dense buds. We think his is cause of the strain but couldn't figure it out 100%.

What strains?? Some are destined to be that way...I've also had this problem (presumably) caused by a light leak as well.

yeah without pics it's kinda hard to tell......but i agree it was probably the intensity of the lights not being enough...nutrients are more designed for taste in my opinion...the whole organic vs. chem nutes i think the same results can be achieved either way just find something that works for you and stick to it....also don't buy into all the gimmicks and buy this and buy that to increase flavor and yields get to know what your working with...i learned the hard way switching from this to that every grow...

Sounds llike its just the strain man..

I hope so, I got all my clones from dispensaries and most of them were not in the best of conditions. I got some Love Potion beans that I want to crack and I'm hoping that they will be as good as my Widow. Thanks.

I'll try to get some pics uploaded tonight. They're in their Curing Jars now. I hear ya man, I use the full lineup of Fox Farm with some Cal-Mag. Growing multi-strain makes it hard to get all the plants dialed in quickly. Ya, I usually wait for other farmers like the Big Boys here give their recommendations and then copy them :).

Let's see... White Widow and Jack the Ripper came out nice with nice yields. Warlock, Green Crack and AK-47 came out light and airy. Although, I do admit, that I let them stretch both in vege and flower.

My buddy has been getting very airy and non dense buds. We think his is cause of the strain but couldn't figure it out 100%.

I hope so. It means that I can fix the problem a lot easier by buying good genetics, you know?

1000Hps in a 6" Magnum. 4x4 Tent and a Vortex 6" Can Fan. See above for strains. I may have had the light too far away. I switched into the Magnum Hood halfway through flower and only realized a week before harvest that the heat dispersion on the Magnum was A LOT BETTER. So I was able to lower the light a bit but only for the last week...

We have all the jars marked of what Day we harvested the plants. I.E.. Green Crack is a 42-49day strain and we marked it with a number 3. The 3 stands for the 3rd day that the strain could be harvested. So I.E.. we harvested on the 44th day. None were harvested early. All were in their "Window of Harvest".

Thanks for all the replies guys! You ROCK!

Im thinking that you did not let the plants go long nuff. I grew green crack and sure your could pull at 45 days, but 60+ is still better. I'm thinking your concept of "harvest window" is a little early :)

Also, what bloom boosters are you using? A full nute regime is a must for top shelf buds...

Ya, I was Harvesting using the "Window" that I found online. I watched the trikes and waited for full cloudy and just the start of Amber. Since I don't want Couch Lock, I harvested at the very first sign of Amber.

60+ huh? Well... I am going to throw another Green Crack into flower, I could always wait this time and see if that was the culprit.

I totally made a rookie mistake and did not subtract two weeks for flushing so I ended up not using ChaChing on the Green Crack. I went for the flush instead. Now that you make me think back, I need to talk to my roommate and confirm with her how much of ChaChing was REALLY used. I use the full Fox Farm lineup.

Thanks Lost. Wish I could get someone to look at my buds in person, you know? I think they would get a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

Peace

whatever grower gives you the "window of harvest".. that's in their experience or what they've been told before.. it doesn't mean your plant will be ready the exact same time. Depends on so many factors, but the bottomline is i usually dont even start checking for amber trichs until the buds start feeling kinda rock hard and dense. Most strains really start filling out in their last 2 weeks or so anyway. Perfect example is some people say to pull og's at around day 70.. well i ran my julius ceasar from cali connect to about day 83-84 and it probably still could have gone longer.. didn't see much amber but boy was it dense :) I've had this problem with other strains too not finishing on the time the breeder suggests.. so really you have to just play it by eye and gut instinct and not by the days.

my 2 cents.

Words to grow by! Great stuff man :)
All I can say is, I'll keep your info at the tip of my mind next harvest. I guess I was so worried about amber fucking up my high, I may have jumped the gun. Rookie mistake. Lesson learned though :)

Don't get me wrong man... Although you can see in the pics below that AK47 is a mutant monster... I'm SMOKING THAT BIATCH! LOL! I'm certainly not going to trash any of it :). If I can't smoke it, it's going to be hash! Maybe I'll find the best smoke of my life in this batch :)

The green crack looks early. I have one at 50 days now and it's definitely not done yet. I run almost everything passed the breeders recommended window by a week.

The others heat or not enough light. Assuming you have actual good strains. I have one I've ran a few times, even with perfect temps, hydro, high ppm nutes, light 6" away, it still doesn't pack on the density.

How far away was your light?

That's just it... This our first grow and we were doing multi-strain. Needless to say, we had different height plants. I could say that our 1000watt light was in the 2 foot range, but that would be an average. Some plants were as close as 12" some 28". It was only until the last 3 weeks that figured out that if we put plastic bins under the plants, we could get them to be relatively the same height.

AK47 stretched to over 7' in our 6'7" tent and we had to tie her down... :(

The only genetics that I KNOW is good is the White Widow. I'm keeping this clone for as long as I possibly can :)

That would be a big part of the problem, light can't penetrate though 7ft of plant, only 1 or 2 ft really. Tie them down early next time to get yourself an even canopy, or hang the bulb vertical and grow around it to use all that vertical height you have.

high temps..If the room is 85 you can bet leaf temps are a little more...Temps can't be reduced try co2...

Not to bad for your first run..It always gets better...

Ahh, vert. Ever since I saw it, I wanted to do a vert setup. Don't think I can do it in my tent though. Even if I push the plants to the walls, they'll still be too close to the bulb in the middle. Moving soon... Something with a spare room for growing :).

Ya, from what others are saying, that's the general consensus. Temps, stretch and inconsistent light intensity. I think we did well our first run too. If you don't count the 3/4lb of schwag, there's 13+oz to keep us medicated till next harvest :). Just bought another tent making two 4x4 tents now, Double the harvest! Thanks mcattak for the advice.

The pics are on page two :)
