Just had 18 hours light.

Watered each plug with 5ml of RO water.

The big fella that I bent accidentally looks like it was starting to show promise.

Hopefully that little fella will spring into life.

Bud

DAY 7

Watered each plug with 5ml. Starting to see another pop out.

Is it certain the big fella will die?
Thanks

Bud

There’s a lot of germination methods. I use a glass of water in a cabinet and drop the seeds in such glass. After a few days you should the the first root developing.
And, sometimes you just have to insert a finger in the dirt and drop a seed.

careful with those lights

If it were me, I'd take that big one and plant it into a cup and bury it so that the top one inch is above the dirt. Then water.

Thanks for the advice @greengenes44 the only problem is I'll be growing in a hydro setup via rockwool.

Do you think I could put the plug in a cup and use some washed clay pebbles instead of soil to achieve the same result?

Thanks

Bud

I wish I could help you out but I’m a dirt grower. I’ve have seen good results when I use T5’s to raise my seedlings. I’ve seen people get great results using rapid Rooters and T5’s as well best of luck!

Yeah, sorry, I too thought this was for a dirt medium. I wish I could help.

DAY 9

I decided to take the dome off a few days ago and turn the humidifier in the room on (rather than trying to maintain the humidity in the dome). I'm achieving between 70/75% humidity in the room and hopefully it's paying off.

Been keeping them wet, just gave them 5ml RO water this morning.

A few more have started to show signs of breaking through.

I have tried to help the big fella out by placing in washed pebbles in an effort to stop the reaching. Fingers crossed. But won't the others turn lanky too?

Thanks

Bud

Looking great I’m glad the others are coming along, I keep a fan on my seedlings on v low gets them strong enough to support its own weight, this must be monitored to ensure medium does not dry completely out.

don’t try and pump them full of light like I did, if they get burned they may be stunted severely, on an 200w LED I burned my seedlings at 18 inches from canvas

DAY 10

I have taken onboard what @Beowuuulf said about distance from light, now moved about 22 inches away.

Out of the 10 seeds I have:

1 lanky fella that I moved into clay pebbles in the hope to save and stop stretching. It has given the cotyledon and first true leaf.

2 seeds that have given cotyledon leaf

2 seeds that are at hypocotyl

5 seeds with nothing so far

Any thoughts welcome.

Bud

Maybe turn the plug around to see if it comes out of the other side. I'm kinda grasping at straws.

The root may go back down. This tells me they were planted pointy tip up close to the surface. Gravitropism is how the roots know which way to grow. In soil I'm sure it would be ok but in rockwool I'm not sure. Keep it orientated the same way. Is it possible you flipped them upside down once by mistake?

No idea to be honest, pretty sure I put them in the right way.

Do you think it's worth turning them upside down?

I would leave em. If you turn them the will have to push the stem right through to the other side. What you can try is gently removing them and planting with the right orientation. I think it's worth the risk because a seedling only has so much energy stored before it will putter out.

I think you are right. Worth a go.

Once I find the Mrs's tweezers I'll report back.

Cheers

Thanks for all the input guys.

The fella who had the curly root coming out, I decided to risk tearing the rockwool....adjusting the seed in the correct position then put the rockwool pieces back together and back in the tray. Hopefully this will work.

To be fair I didnt have to handle it much with the tweezers which was a relief... sort of fell in the natural position and looks good.

If you read this thread from the start it's a tale of the wrong method (although I did research), a cock up by me bending a seed whilst trying to support it and now this. For my first grow I'm loving it!

Cheers all

Bud

Are those COB? if so, they shouldn't need to be that close......that said, if they're COB your seedling shouldn't be stretching like that .....

Also to note, if a seedling stretches like that under those conditions, those lights will not be adequate as a maturing plant requires astronomically more light.

Cheers
