Sorry ninja ; spay turps 🤢🤮
I am really surprised you get along with them , they dry up my throat big time it swells my larynx & gives me a massive headache. Guess I’m super sensitive to whatever’s in them. I know some come from flowers that are known to have anti inflammatory properties however l don’t know the full make up of them
I just know they make me ill

They do mess with me in an unusual way. Not even limited to the concentrated terps... Any time I hit a high terp weed or almost ANY vape, it creates an instantaneous mucus response in my lungs... Think of the way a capsaicin pepper spray might hit ya if you inhaled some. Its a momentary pain to breathe deep while that mucus is being rapidly dispensed behind the walls of the lung until it passes into the pocket that it can be coughed up. I used to think it was the dreaded "lipid pneumonia" we hear about, but really it's more like a brief but heavy asthmatic response. From a physiological response, I liken it to your eyes watering up when you're cutting an onion. And that my friend, is what terps do to me.

The reason they're still getting some medicinal effects is some of the heavier terpenes survived, Unfortunately the lighter terpenes got zapped right away. The enzymes responsible in removing the choryphil need some moisture to do this, so a low and slow dry is highly recommended.

The popular census...

Ideal Drying Environment
    • Temperature: Keep it between 60°F and 65°F (15°C to 18°C).
    • Humidity: Maintain a relative humidity of 55% to 60%.
    • Airflow: Provide gentle, indirect air circulation without blowing fans right at the buds.
    • Lighting: Keep the space in total darkness to protect cannabinoids from light damage.
    • Duration: Lasts about 7 to 14 days, ending when small stems snap instead of bend.

I really appreciated everyone’s detailed responses. The one thing that’s stand out is the high , its very clear headed and energetic , not what you necessarily call “stoney”. Another item of concern I had during the dry was the amount of air i had circulating in the dry room. I had a large oscillating fan facing toward the wall , I guess I didn’t realize how much air it was moving because those buds were pretty damn crispy 3 days in.
Yeah I think too much fan dried some of the volatile plant compounds into the plant tissue before they could properly break down, I like drying plants whole too, I feel like the moisture leaves the buds slower and the plant sucks up more resin or something. If it was too wet when you trimmed and bagged it that can cause this too, there is something called ethlylene in curing cannabis buds that needs to be purged out of the buds before they are ready to store, it's the reason for the burping of jars is to allow the ethylene to escape.

Oh man sorry to hear that, its to late now, on ur next grow post pics of close up on those trichomes im thinking like what ur thinking chopped to early and not sure about amber and no milky trichomes unless those where on sugar leaves not the cola spear heads.
Check the buds with magnifier, I do see frost, kinda blurry.
Pics if grow looks awesome buds maybe break up buds smaller, don't pack jars, keep burping in guess , and keep testing until a good white ash after smoking. How's the high now?

Edit, I looked at other threads of your grow, they look good, which strain looked not milky?
My opinion. The fresh is the best. So waiting to let it cure. Is kinda a myth. Just my opinion. But enjoy it don’t hold it back from yourself expecting it to get better than what it is. Peace

Some genetics don't need a cure and some just start to really open up after 3 months. No myth. The stuff that doesn't NEED a cure gets even better with one.
But you've homed in on an important thing, and that is in your efforts to improve taste, it usually comes with the sacrifice of some of the smell. A happy medium spot is one that smooths out the taste without losing too much of the smell.

For me, keeping a steady temp and humidity is nearly impossible without additional gear. Humidifier, de-humidifier, ac unit of some type. My grows however are not horrible. Good yield, fair size buds, sometimes seed sacs but only had one grow actually seed......

But like you, I have issues with the dry and the cure. Since I cannot keep a steady climate, drying will vary and needs constant checking. My last harvest, one plant almost turned white. I thought I had mold and was so upset. We had very high humidity that month. Upon closer look with a lupe, I did not see mold but a massive collection of white terpines (I think that is what they are, still learning terminology). The dry was actually decent, I used a moisture meter to test the buds before jarring.

But alas.... once they hit the jars..... that is where I seem to lose everything. At first, I thought that I was just smoking the buds too early. I usually am in need of refilling at harvest time. But even after a few months in the jar, the flavor gets better but I still get that gassy, or odd smell, from the jars. The taste gets a little better but not great.

I tried Grove bags with TerpLock. Suppose to be the bees knees for curing. Nope, buds got too dry in them. UG! I am never going to get this right!

On my 6th grow now. Almost out of my last harvest and was looking at smoking freshly picked bud again. I broke down and bought a VCure. They claim 14 days harvest to smoke.... YouTube videos seem to boast that this works so..... I guess we will see. Almost done with the dry cycle then cure cycle. I think I have about 10 days left in total. I am excited to see if this helps to get a better tasting smoke.

But alas.... once done I do have to store it. Even though the VCure will store. I did a half harvest this time. I took all the tops and left the lower buds to ripen and see if I can get more from this grow. I could never do that before since I was using my tent to dry as well as grow. I hope that jarring after the cure will not hurt the taste.

If this works, the next purchase will be a terraform from ac infinity to get my climate stable :D

And wow.... all this and I have no solution for you and just babbling like a fool LOL. I guess I just wanted to share that I feel your pain. ;)
