A Good Defoliation Side By Side

Hey everyone I know this is kind of a polarizing topic but I came across this article on another site and I think alot of members might like to take a look at it.

I for one was definitely surprised by some of the outcome.

I use defoliation to some degree every grow. Sometimes it's only a few leaves and other times I've probably went overboard . But I've always thought you get less larf when you defoliate, plus it helps with airflow in a cramped grow space reducing humidity.

Weigh-in and lab results are in! The HLG 300 R-Spec uses 270W of electricity, so that’s what I’m using to calculate grams/watt.

Natural tent

Yields: 274.43 g (9.68 oz) – about 1 gram/watt
Premium buds from top of plant: 188.14 g (6.64 oz)
Bleached buds from the bottom of plant: 86.29 g (3.04 oz)
Terpenes: 12.91 mg/g average
22.09% THC (Average)
Wildberry: 21.72% THC
Runtz: 19.16% THC
Platinum Cookies: 25.38% THC
Defoliation tent

Yields: 298.68 g (10.54 oz) – about 1.1 gram/watt
Average Terpenes: 12.74 mg/g
23.45% THC (Average)
Wildberry: 23.38% THC
Runtz: 20.01% THC
Platinum Cookies: 26.96% THC"

Not a great yield on either. The thc numbers are surprising, my best buds are always in the shaded parts.

I thought you were going to post a tutorial on how to defoliate to arrive at the numbers you posted.

As far as the small side by side this article pertains to, ya. It's obviously a small sample but it looks to me like it was done well, with good documentation and a link to the grow journal with weekly updates I believe.
