I pulled one of my air diffuser hoses apart and to my suprise found a lead wire that is used to weight the hose down to keep it on the bottom.

Will lead leach out into the water? I think it will...but at what level? I mean....is this no good? Lead wire in my res?

It seems like a bad idea on general principle.

Lead is quite dangerous, and it's also very possible that it could contaminate your water.

You'd need to state your cistern's capacity, and also the amount of lead to determine if it would be detrimental.

On the plus side, adding vitamin C will not only knock out the chlorine molecules, it will chelate the lead out of your system as well (at the proper dosage).

Are you sure it is lead?

I know a lot of fishing gear has replaced lead with bismuth, a dense metal that is many times less toxic than lead,

If your diffusers are manufactured for aquarium use,it would most likely be bismuth.
