Your thread title said it. So I am posting.

Need a puck pressed?

My fucking god! This is worse than oilfield prices! (my previous life I was an oil and gas well Drilling Fluids Engineer 20 yrs, prior to that a Drilling Rig hand for 12 yrs).

License to print money. $4511.00USD on IKA website.

I’ve seen a few different versions of these! And yes! They are outrageously priced! I’m thinking one could achieve similar results with a vise or even a press like what I just got! Or just drive the truck over the mold!🤣✌️

Ok got the press assembled and pressed a couple of nugs “pre smashed” of some stuff that had been hanging for a few days. Not awesome but not a complete fail. It is goofy dont get me wrong, just wanted to play around with it. I couldn’t even feel pressure built up in the handle during the press in the picture, and the straightener was about maxed out on psi! Hahahah! Now I just need to get something to smoke this stuff with. I’ve got my eye some cool pieces for the future, but for now im probably just going to get a 45* angle banger for the bong. I am getting really, really excited for the real heat plates! Pretty sure im going to be getting enough oil to smoke on for days! (Major win!) Yes without some sort of guage it will be hard to know the pressure.
Well other than the obvious hair straightener not being so straight.
Bring on the plates.

I may just use the straightener as my “gauge” hahahah! dude so excited for the plates! 🤩

I have a little 4 ton dab press. It seems to lack on the pressure it can put out. I like to press at 185 degrees with 37 micron bags.
Thanks for sharing man! I have some questions for you if you’re cool with that? (I’ve been looking into this shit a ton and have mush brain)

  1. 37 micron bag? Are you pressing hash? (Have seen a lot of people using 120’s and even 160’s for flower and the lower microns for hash) are you just trying to get the cleanest product? : )
  2. Are you pre pressing pucks or pre molded bud for the filter bags?
  3. Are you creeping the heat up to 185 as you apply pressure?
Thanks again for chiming in! Im hoping that this thread can be a catch all for how tos and dont dos and all the variables in between! ✌️

I press both hash and flower. Seems like the flower does best when pressing when freshly dried. Buy a variety pack of bags and play around. The 37 seems to work best for me. I wish I had a gauge so I could tell how much pressure I was putting on it. Also try pressing your bags vertical instead of horizontal.

Like the concept of on topic posts like this @BearWater, great job

After a good bit a research, mine and others, here’s my process for pressing wax. I focus on quantity because pressing is probably the least efficient method of extraction.
Ain’t nothing clean about wax so I’ll tend to do a couple ounces at a time
1) get a weight first, not that important but I like info
2) break it down to get out any stems
3) place overnight in a water bath to get that flower good and wet.

AWESOME INPUT MAN!❤️ 🙏

Appreciate you checking it out! I’ve been reading and watching videos a ton! It seems there are so many variables to any one style of pressing! It’s crazy!

flower is good and moist here’s a mold for 2x4.5 pucks, not used currently but I remember how.

The flower goes between the plates of lexan. Slid the entire thing into a bag after it’s loaded. Pull out the lexan sheets and your ready to press

Awesome! Thanks for the step by step! How crucial are the sides being fully packed in the filter bag? I watched a video on YouTube and they were talking about getting rid of as much dead space as possible within the filter bag. Maybe it’s not even worth the efforts to worry about it? : )
I really like those plastic sliders! Probably makes that process night and day! lol 😆

As you can see from my current method I’m not really concerned with voids. 2000 psi makes everything flat 🐻 💧
I prepped 4 in the time it took to do 1 in the mold

This is where you’d stop filling if your pressing vertical. Cut off the excess and fold over. Some guys tuck in the corners but why?
This method is said to improve yields but 3 grams max, I’ll do 10 grams + flat

Found these precut sheets of parchment paper work great. Cut on the first fold and it’s a perfect fit for the press

My press is from dabpress, 10 ton dual plates pots power jack. Pricey but it has everything I want
IMG 2688

Pressing is quick. Get it centered and bring plates together with very little pressure for 60 seconds. Bring pressure up to 4500 psi for 3 minutes ant 210 and it’s over. Like good flower, good wax needs to cure, 24 hours in the deep freezer.
Save those pucks! There’s lots of goodness still in there
