I don't believe they're pre-inoculated, I could be wrong but my understanding of those is that they're kind of boiled down barley straw. I've used the barley concentrates, they just don't work.Pretty sure pond enzymes are barley based. They sell barley bales to drip into ponds. Not sure if they are pre inoculated with bacteria though?
I believe barley is the foundation of enzyme culture and concentrate? For freshwater ponds at least?
I believe other pond enzymes are definitely bacterial-based, but I can't say for certain if they're all inoculants, or if they're derivatives without diving back into it again.
Has listed as active ingredients bacteria, enzymes, and barley.
Hrm... I think we have a terminology issue going on here, as I don't believe there is a thing that is known as 'barley based bacterial enzymes.' Barley has its own action and is its own thing, enzymes are the same, bacterial action can be enhanced by enzymes and can also produce enzymes. Barley is a terrestrial plant, a grain, a grass. It is the straw that is used for algal control in ponds, it is not a bacterium, but it may produce an enzyme.^^^ Barley based, and I believe all f/w ponds use barley based bacterial enzymes to eat sludge.
Here, these links will explain far better than I can.
