Update: On the regular note....

Things are looking good. I notice some upper leaves with the "spots" when i checked my log i found i missed a weekly spraying. This shows the importance of keeping on top of maint. These were discovered on the "health" plant ms. green on the Left. Less then a hand full of leaves but a "note to self" 🍻 🥂 Oh and we are back on schedule.

Overall the bud development looks very good. I am going to run these until they fall over from the weight.

One final note.... Keep up with your maintenance..... back to Regalia-CG twice a week until it goes away again.. damnit!

Nitrogen claw.

Thank You. Too much or too little being used?

@Dirtbag; After looking up "nitrogen claw" the answer is too much.

"... Different strains react differently to nitrogen toxicity. Some plants get dark green leaves with no clawing. Some strains will get leaves that do the weird 90 degree bend at the tips, while other strains or individual plants start curling like claws and then turn yellow / brown and fall off like a deficiency. Yet these are all signs of too much nitrogen. ..."

I find this very strange since i am using the same nutes from my very first grow on the same schedule. Last feeding was on the 10th and it was with "bloom" formula 2-2-5.

Ahhhhhh..... it was the Cal-Mag this past Sunday (2-0-0) i am going to guess that they were too close together. I probably should have waited a week. However my schedule says no more of both through harvest. PPM's have already dropped by 50 since Sunday so hopefully the 5 gal of 17ppm RO water added last night and another 5 scheduled for tomorrow; will be enough to flush it through without causing too much damage.

We'll see. 🙏 😊

Signs of Nitrogen Toxicity

  • This marijuana plants has been fed too much nitrogenDark green leaves and foliage
  • Leaf tips may turn down, without signs of overwatering.
  • You may notice yellowing on the affected leaves or other signs of nutrient deficiencies as time goes on
  • Nitrogen toxicity is often but not always accompanied by nutrient burn
  • The Claw often seems random, affecting leaves here and there
  • Heat and pH problems will make the clawing worse, as they stress out the plant and lower her defenses, and cause her to drink more water (and uptake more N)
  • As time goes on, the claw leaves will eventually start turning yellow, getting spots, and dying

Grew out of my veg cabinet;

I have finally grown comfortable enough with my growing skills to add a second 2x4 also with a 40 gallon rez. I chose the gorilla 2x4 with extension. I ordered it with a second Kind Xl600. Together with the xl-300 from the 2x2 veg cabinet, for a total of 458 real watts, the other 2x4 is running with a xl-450 & xl-600 (515w). I will be reusing both of the AC-Infinity T4's for ventilation. Instead of my usual (4) T5's (three of which needed replacing) I purchased a single 4ft Kind LED Veg Light bar and light hangers. Along with my return customer discount was only $250. 4 new T5's were going to cost me $120 and use more power. They won't be here until Wednesday so that is why there are no pics without the blurpuples.

I got all of the brass fittings installed and the two 6in holes for the 6in net pot. Air is also run. As an added bonus i also treated myself to a new 150 gallon RO rez that i am going to setup in the garage and wrap with a thermal blanket to keep the temp variations to a minimum. Freezing won't be and issue but our summers are brutal. I still have the 35 gallon tank to keep in the AC so i can fill it from the main tank and keep the temp close to room temp so that i don't have to worry about temp shock during top-off. (although 5 gallons of top off to a 63 degree rez can't be much of a change. Better safe than sorry. It will take 3-4 weeks for delivery and shipping is only $100 because they are about 90 miles from my house.

More details when i get it all functioning. 🍻 🥂 🥳

Final Day of actual construction and modifications on the new 2x4 tent:

Final integrity testing of the rigid flood tray that fits inside the one supplied by the vendor. The flood pan is 24x44x7. I intentionally loosened one of the side sports to allow water to escape from the rez with the water level at the "full" mark. The drainage was contained within the rigid line with room to spare. I also installed a 30 gph submersible pump at the bottom of the res. When things get going in the summer, "sweating" condensation can be an issue so liner servers double duty. I did the math on the volume of the three containers should just barely hold a full rez. As a backup procedure, I have also placed the tent on a concrete floor so that if it floods it will simply run under the wall and out of the garage.

1587670067669

Pressure tested all of the fittings and clamps by hooking them all together and then connecting the far end to the actual pump that will be used.

Checked the tub & rez fittings for integrity
1587670295472

1587670686027
1587670366690

Did the final install of the rez and the hookup of fittings. Then filled and checked for leaks all around. When finished i pumped all of the water down the drain and wiped out the rez with h202 with a sloppy wet cloth and left it to air dry.

1587670627327

Chiller is running, temp is spot on @64F. I have hooked the rez up with 4 air-stones as well, they are blowing hard right now as they are new and i want to get them broken in. Because it is more like a rolling boil right now i have not added anything but a Hydroguard to keep the bugs down while i'm blowing out the stones. I am keeping it covered and the lights off as much as possible.

1587670829036

Environmentals in the tent are coming along just fine. I have added the pulse and humidifier and tuning has begun.

1587672607335

fixed the height of the lights and made sure the vent is above the light to suck out the hot air from the lights and a second hung lower to help above the canopy. Each is connected to an AC Infinity T4 with humidity & temp prob/controller. The pulse is in the tent, but i have not figured out how to keep it at canopy level. I suspect magnets my be my solution.

1587673578855

Tomorrow I will add beginning nutes (list & amounts will be supplied during that update), enzymes, turn down the air, along with bringing the PH down to 6.0

(4) New beans will go into soak late tomorrow night, then into the Root Riot on Sunday. Popping 4 to get two...

Until tomorrow...
Happy Growing Fellow Farmers... Peace, Out 🥳 🍻 🥂

New Light Bar Has Arrived!!

Since i needed to buy new T5's i did some quick math. 4 x .3A = 1.2A the new veg light bar run at 1.3A.($56) vs $300 for the new light. HOWEVER; because it also provides some of the other wavelengths i will be able to keep the two large KINDs off possibly for as long as a month. That would be a huge savings.

It is decidedly more on the Blue side. New light on top, Flower light on the bottom and last is with both light turned on and the
measurement is taken at the surface of the rez. Also the lights are not at their optimum heights. Total SWAG.

The output of each is listed below.

The Main Flower on the left, the new veg light in the middle and the light at rez with both on, on the right. Distance from light 24"

I love that app. Just be carefull under blurple the reading you get on the app is much lower than what it actually is because some of the spectrums fall outside of it.

Roger that!
The main light says to keep 30 in from tops until full grown, the veg only 20" I will monitor closely for burn.

As you know i have had tops up against the big lights for as long as a month without burning. At least for this strain.

Thanks again 🍻 🥂

Speaking of which ...

I think i blew the height thing again with the scrog net. Actually the plant on the left (ms green) was scrogged and is flowering nicely. The one on the right is actually in its second week of flower but there was little or no room left on the net by the time it had grown tall enough to work into the net. So this grow is 50/50 scrogged.

Scrogging actually worked as is evidenced by the left plant that is just finishing week 8 of flower.

Aaannnnnddddd THEIR OFF...

Ok, it has been a long day....

Finally got the beans put to bed. I pushed the exposed seed down after the photo was taken... and added dome until they pop, then i'll remove it. Planted 4 in hopes that i would get two strong youngins'

Nute mixing will have to wait until tomorrow..

As soon as your plants are under the net, flip, they'll do 2 foot of stretch. I use my net to stop the big budders falling over, as I'm like you, I over fill my net every time. lol

The more sat dom strains are the more N sensitive they are in flower. Those look pretty sat dom.

I would say 60% is pretty high 🍻

I am actually pretty glad that i decided to by a batch of 50 of the same seeds to learn from. It makes it easier to keep the issues straight in my head and notebook.

UPDATE: Cleaning up the undergrowth;

Before i started the cleanup on ms green you could not see ANY light reflected off of the rez below the plant. Now I can see from the bud top all the way down to the rez.

Buds are becoming "beastie" and are now getting the full blast of the lights. Silicon is beginning to show it value, no bud droop and no bending stalks because of weight.

Still fighting that damn spotting. I will be glad when this grow is over and i can disassemble this cabinet and disinfect from top to bottom. As i was warned... this has been a fight since it was noticed. The trip is that it is now on the more mature plant and a LOT less visible on the originator... Ain't that a bitch.... 4 weeks on this plant. 6-8 on the stunted one.

🍻 🙏

UPDATE: New protocol for growing with lower PPM.

OK. Recognizing that one must continually try to improve, and since I am nearing the end of my 4th successful grow; I am going to make a change to my growing protocol.

To start with I am going changing my starting nute mix. I am staying with Botanicare but switching from the CNS-17 line (3-1-2) to the KIND BASE (4-0-0) w/5% Cal. included. For my original mix In my 40 gallon rez I used the recommended 3 mil per gallon. I also used the recommended 2mil per gallon rate for the Hydroguard along with the full 4 tsp of PlusLife Enzymes. This gave me a final ppm count of 260 (90 of which was the Enzymes).

A week to 10 days after I transplant to Hydroton (probably next weekend) I plan to add ¼ strength of Botanicare Sweet (Magnesium) to prevent the dreaded CalMag def L.

My plan is to feed @ 25% recommended Base and increasing by 25% each week through week 4 when flower should be starting, then stopping completely to turn of the Nitrogen.

Beginning in week four/flower week 1; I will be adding Hydroguard & Silica Blast weekly; Sweet Citrus (Magnesium) beginning with 25% , 50, 75, 100, 75, 50, 25. Also beginning in week four using the same schedule, I will be using “Flower Fuel” (0-34-43) to incrementally stepping up, then down the inclusion of Phosphorus & Potassium to encourage larger bud growth.

For Micro-nutes I will be using (on the same sliding schedule; “My Weed Minerals” recommended by a few local growers who swear by it.

The overall goal here is to raise healthy, bountiful plants using as few products as possible. I would like to be able to keep my ppm below 800 for the entire grow, including the use of enzymes (not worried about Hydroguard, it barely registers in ppm’s).

What I have not figured out yet is how to replace the Cal that will be missing after I stop using the Base after week 4. I guess I could use 25% and keep the Sweet at 25% every week. I could use CalMag (2-0-0) after week 4 but it typically adds 2-300 ppm for a full dose (needed in flower) and that usually blows me way over 1000 ppm for at least a week, Not a bad thing, just above my stated goal. It also adds Nitrogen in flower which is not a good thing (slows down flowering).

What am I missing (i'm sure there is quite a bit... )?

Thanks to everyone in Advance. 🍻 🥂
