I just discovered a population of aphids. I’ve read everything from chop it all down to don’t spray anything on the buds. I’ve never had a big issue indoors. But it happens I’m sure. What have you done to save it from full infestation. Pick them one at a time? lol Thanks much

First and foremost I'd personally look to stop the ants accessibility to the plant, or you'll be fighting a losing battle

There was no ants at all. They must have came in on me. I never go from the outdoor garden to the inside but it must have found a way. They were on the 2 gdp; but not the gold leaf. Very depressing. But good in one way (if this works) because I found nanners on two branches. That hermied of the one with the most aphids. So I’ll be keeping an eye that one to maybe move it to the garbage.

So I made a concoction of RO water, canola oil, rubbing alcohol and lemon juice.

Stripped them down big time and took a chip brush to apply the mix to everything but the buds. With the bristles pretty dry I went over the buds to knock off any that happened to be there. I think I saw 2 in the buds, but they match color. Soaked the whole tent with Clorox and put down a layer of diatomaceous earth on the soil. I hate summer grows.

I used Dr Zymes for knock down then used Castille soap/olive oil, and Diatomaceous, water well before adding Diatoms, make sure top soil/diatomaceous stays dry and lay down a even layer 1/4" - 3/8" deep, Once You Break their (short) Life Cycle they're gone - It will take a few passes if bad Infested, Check underside of leaves daily(check everywhere. The Oil Mix will drown/smother them, water rinse after you know there Gone. Aphids Suck, been there a few times...good luck M8

Seconding the recommend or Dr Zymes. I've successfully knocked out aphids. Definitely need to be diligent about applying whatever every 72 hours to break their lifecycle. At least a week but 2 weeks of treatments gives you great odds.

Thanks for the tips. There was probably 150 on the one gdp and 10-20 on the other. They were looking rough after brushing the solution on them. I wanted to keep it off the buds as much as possible; if they make it I want a minimal impact. It was very early flower. 2 weeks

Use a IPM for direct killing of the bugs. Like citris acid and other natural oils that repel bugs.

But if you really want to be successful. I have a 3 part process roughly 150$ for the azadirachtin. Which kills all larva and egg nests and keeps from those bugs breeding.

I'll do a pre transplant fully water the media then plant. Once I get to week 3 in veg I do it again. And week 3 of flower I do it again.

Depends how invested you are with your plants and what they mean to you to spend some change to prevent damage or bug infestations.

I highly recommend this stuff^ AgroMagen GrowSafe Bio Pesticide. It's organic and it works very well you can spray at any time clone through pre-harvest.

Now that you're in flower I'd stay away from Neem and I don't recommend azadirachtin containing products for cannabis as it arguably ends up in your end product even if you only use it in Veg.

The bio pesticide won't kill honey bees, won't burn your plants, it's OMRI listed and most importantly it works very well. It's a little on the pricey side but it's cheaper than some other harsh chemicals on the market. Usually 1 maybe 2 applications and you won't have any more problems.

Day 3 post treatment. Zero signs of Aphids. I gave them another treatment but this time with one of those little atomizing pump sprayers; that we got for alcohol during the pandemic. I mixed 300ml of RO water with 1.5 tbsp of Canola, 1.5 tbsp of Lemon juice and 1tbsp of 70% rubbing alc. I mixed it with an immersion blender. It gets milky. Then I sprayed the bottoms of the leaves, tops and the stems and soil. Did I mention I hate growing in the summer lol. 2 of the three are putting on growth but stopped stretching. I expected this was going to kill production. Well it’s working and I don’t think I’m doing damage to them or myself by giving them this. The Alc. is the most harmful and that’s evaporating within a few seconds. Thanks for all your input.

Well there was several on the bottom of some leaves again. They’re immature it seems. I didn’t see any big ones, so I gave them a 3rd treatment. I’ll just keep going till it either kills the plants or the bugs. lol. They’re pretty much buds and sugar leaves. When I brushed the mixture on I think it may have done some damage or it just generally damaged them.

if i could make a suggestion, ive experienced these issues with almost every parasite that issues the plants indoor.
i tried everything from a quicky spray of flyspray than foilate the plant with water.... (dont do this i was new) to planting garlic next to my plant in the same pot. i found neem oil worked best. its organic and not to nasty on your plant. its purpose is to cover your plant and when they take a nice little bite they get the oil with it killing them. i dont know if you can use this on the buds so you may need to do some research as ive had my issues sorted before flowering

I saw a video of a guy mixing ash and water yesterday. I’ve got their numbers down to single digits.
The one that hermed on my is living outside now so we’ll see how badly it does.

yes, you need a fem plant, and hormone spray, you put a devider down the centre and spray one side, it pollonates it's self and therfore was a fem seed can only produce more fem seeds. this is how they cross breed with pollen from other strains :)

All the fan leaves are dying off and some of the sugar leaves. They seem to be growing tho. Def pollenated some buds on them, especially the hermed plant. We’ll see.

I've been fighting cannabis aphids since last fall when I brought some outside branches indoors to trim. The little fuckers jumped ship and made it onto some indoor plants. By the time I realized, they had spread to the veg and flower tents. I keep the numbers down with insecticidal soap (1.5tsp soap & 1tsp veg oil per litre) but it's impossible to eradicate them from the flowering plants. I added a bunch of ladybugs last week, if that doesnt do it I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to shut it all down, sterilize and start over from seeds.
For some reason, the aphids seem to strongly prefer the non-flowering plants, I think they know the trichomes are sticky death traps. I remove the large fan leaves in mid-to-late flower (around week 6) and that seems to remove a majority of aphids and their feeding ground. After harvest and trimming the sugar leaves, there are hardly any aphids or insect debris when examined under a microscope. Besides, I've worked in Quality Control, I'm aware of and am comfortable with the acceptable amount of insect parts in all our favourite mass-produced delicious delights - at least this is going up in smoke lol
