Hi Farmers,

Dodimonkey here, so my apt landlord said there will be an insurance inspection in a few days. I currently am running a 4x2 tent in my room and just flipped to 12/12 yesterday. I am going to temporarily turn off lights and fans and remove all ducting and cords from it. Anyone have any tips on what else I can do to help conceal or make seem less like a tent with cannabis growing in it?

That's a tough one. Maybe take the plants to a friend's place or a storage locker if you have one. Then, with the tent empty, you could say you're just storing it for a friend for some reason.

Find an empty apartment there wait till 3am and take them to that apartment when the inspection is over go back at 2 am to get them

If you have a balcony you could just put them out there and pray

I would just leave it running the way it is and cover it with a tarp its none of their business what you have under a tarp tell him you have sensitive photography equipment or don’t say anything since you just flipped there shouldn’t be any smell

Interesting, is this a common thing with rentals and insurance company visits?

Tell em to just take a quick peek in the entranceway the wife in the bedroom (holding the canna) has flu and you may be infected.

I would get the tent out of sight. No extension cords running around, clean and organized. I hate insurance companies.

Update: So I ended up buying room dividers and covering the tent up and I also throw a bunch of clothes on it. Made it look like a messy clothes wardrobe. Come inspection day, they only checked odd number apartments and luckily I live in good old unit 22 lol. Thanks for all the suggestions guys and happy smoking farmers!

To help conceal your 4x2 tent during the insurance inspection, temporarily turning off the lights and fans and removing all ducting and cords is a good start. You might also consider placing large pieces of furniture or boxes around the tent to obstruct the view and make it less obvious. Cover the tent with a large blanket or tarp to make it look like general storage. Ensure the room is well-ventilated and free of any strong odors by using air fresheners or odor-neutralizing sprays. Lastly, keep the room tidy and free of any other items that might hint at cannabis cultivation.

Went through this myself. Have to have a shut down plan in place if you’re renting. For me usually it would be break down the grow space and move all the supplies to a closet. Tuck the plants in a back corner of the closet with a big coat covering sight of them, then the supplies filling the rest of the closet. They won’t rummage in the back of a closet, especially if it’s full. You can also try the old create a wall of boxes trick and hide the plants behind the wall. But the best is to get the plants to a friends house at 2am the day before and open all the windows.

I've wondered about a hypothetical like this.

I suppose you could leave it all as is and just tell him you're growing tomatoes or other fruits/vegetables or whatever. I doubt the insurance guy would care WHAT is growing in there, though his beef might be with the tent and setup itself. But you could still be like "Look, I don't want to disrupt the process at this point, because the plants are delicate" but if you want me to shut it down and remove it all and stop doing this, I understand and will start doing it right after you guys leave emphasizing that the reason you'll wait for them to leave is so you can optimally and without disruptions take your setup somewhere else to continue growing instead of juggling the inspection as well as that whole project.

Matter of fact, what I just thought of is that since you have a few days to figure this out you can just be honest with the landlord and be like "Hey, I'll be straightforward with you I have a grow tent in the apartment growing plants/vegetables and just to get complications out of the way if that tent itself is going to be an issue then I can just break it down and move take it somewhere else because I do want to continue renting here". I would think at this point the landlord may kind of guess what you're doing and if it bothers him then he'd tell you to get rid of it and not being a jerk and actually calling you out on what is he suspects you of growing. If he does want you out of there then I suppose he'd just tell you to get your stuff and go because he's already come to a conclusion. Risky to some, but I do stuff like that. If dude wants me out, fine with me I'll go somewhere else and he can have fun finding another tenant.

But if he respects you and says the tent is fine but it does have to be vegetables then maybe just buy a couple vegetable plants and chuck them in there for the couple hours or whatever they're going to be floating around while you stash your plants somewhere else for that period to pretend it's actually vegetables and stuff, lol.

Anyways, that's what came out of my mind when I read your situation.

Sounds like you pulled it off perfectly with the room dividers and clever clothes disguise! Good thing they only checked the odd-numbered apartments, so unit 22 stayed safe. Glad it all worked out for you, and happy farming to you too!
