Autopot grow # 2 northern light autos

As a few of you know I had a mini grow log going in the infirmary forum and decided that this go around I would make a legit one. Little back ground on my last grow. 4 train wrecks in a 5x5 tent under a Scrog net using, or should I say misusing, GH nutes. I was using the autopot xl with airdomes. Those plants had some weird funky problems that I attribute to several factors but they still pulled through with some decent weight and tasty flowers. This time around I’m growing 6 northern light autos in the 15l autopots. The plan is to use only megacrop at low ppms with calmag foliar as necessary. I’ll be topping 2 and comparing final weights since I’ll be doing several runs with these beans. Germinated 6 seeds in paper towels with 100% success rate. Planted them and three days later all have popped the surface and shed their shells. I’m using 50/50 coco perlite that was rinsed then charged with cal mag and then rinsed again. I fed them today with 100ppm solution to 20% runoff. I’m using a 20 hour light schedule. Temps have been 75 with lights on 63 with lights off. I would like to keep temps up, wondering what your guys thoughts are on 24 hour on lights as that’s keeping the temperature near perfect. RH is about 50% it’s a little low but to boost it up I have to kick the humidifier up a notch and then the tank only lasts 8 hours. I work 12’s usually. I may use a 5 gallon bucket to the humidifier Rez for more capacity but don’t want to if I don’t have to. What do y’all think? Keep it at 50 or do a little diy to keep it a bit higher? ✌ and ❤

Here they are day 7. I’ve decided to keep the light schedule on a 20/4 and just run a space heater in the room on low for the 4 hours the lights are off. Try to keep it 5 or 6 degrees warmer. Heat is still about 75 with lights on and 64 with lights off. Hoping the space heater closes that gap a bit. RH is 50%~ . Will be feeding 140 ppm ro water a bit later. Nutrients used are megacrop. A few of them had a hard time shedding their seed shell but so far so good

What is the url to your last grow? I am finishing up my first 4 train wreck autos myself. My new grow (and the next few) will be using Train Wreck Autos again.

I am going to follow this grow as well. You can never get too much education. I'm a hydro guy but a lot of the concepts transfer.

Good Luck 🍻 😎

btw; my current and past grows are listed in my signature.

Well here we are 10 days from seed and everything is plugging along like a well oiled machine. Last night I didn’t seat the humidifier res properly so it didn’t turn on. Rh got fairly low but it didn’t seem to affect anything to badly. I think in the next day or so I’ll put my big boy hurricane fan in there for more circulation. Currently I have 2 non oscillating 6 inch clip fans going but those things are pretty wimpy. I’ve watered 2 times with megacrop. First watering was 100 ppm second was 140. I don’t know if I mentioned it but I’m using the California light works 1100. Currently set reds to 39%, whites to 49%, and blues at 100%. Light is all the way at the top of the tent and ppfd at plant tops averages 215. After a few sets of true leaves I’ll increase my light intensity to about 500 at plant tops.

Can't wait till those roots hit that water!
Should be great, looking forward to following along.

Got bored so I thought I would hang with my ladies for a bit today. I noticed some algae growing in a few spots on my coco. Wondering if I should let it dry out or cover the top of the substrate with some reflectix that I purchased from the Home Depot for beer brewing. Also I decided I will top and lst 2 of the plants, fim and lst 2, and just lst the last 2 to compare yields

Day 13 from seed and all is well. One of the seedlings has a twisted leaf, which I read was the beginning of a calmag deficiency so I foliar fed with cal mag and a wetting agent. I hooked up my big boy fan and turned it onto low. One of the seedling immediately fell over 😂. I turned. The fan off and propped it up with some coco. Will try again in a week. ✌ and ❤

Merry Christmas! A little Christmas update. Plants are doing ok. 2 of them are super droopy. I think because they are so small in big pots I’ve overwatered. I turned on the big boy fan again to help dry out the soil. I’ve also turned on the airdomes underneath to help boost the oxygen at the root zone. I know it’s not recommended to turn those on until they start bottom feeding, I assume because it could potentially dry out the roots, but I’m monitoring it closely. I feel like they aren’t growing quite as fast as they should, maybe because of overwatering. I also bumped my lights up a little so they are getting about 250-275 ppfd at the tops. ✌ and ❤

Another day gone by and I’m starting to wonder if this is going to turn into a 5 plant grow. Haven’t watered in about 5 days and that droopy plant is looking even worse. It actually feels crispy to the touch. Soil is still moist under the surface though. I’m starting to wonder if it’s actually overwatered. It seems as though everything I read says coco/perlite retains enough oxygen for root development no matter how much water it receives. What do you all think? Water it or continue to leave it??

Have you filled the bottoms of the pots yet with water?
I just transplanted a couple small plants to auto pots after watering the promix well with about 350ppm total.
I also filled the bottom of the two pots with fresh water at transplant and just recently filled them again with about 450ppm total from below. I figured after the good soak at first "and they also seem to be absorbing the water from below" that the roots should be there soon but I only have them both below 2 - 42 watt cfl bulbs atm....
I would wonder if they/yours maybe hit a dry spot below while growing which is doubtful if watered fully down or just stalled from growing roots... not much help but I am looking forward to them finding their groove.

I grew an auto Jack Herer once that stalled about twice that height " I had wondered at the time if I had stressed it with a light feeding" and it stayed at that height in it's 3 gallon pot while all the regulars grew up around it then it took off and produced a small bush.
Maybe it was just growing a bunch of roots and not much upper growth...dunno.

Consider putting the humidifier on a deep cycle timer so as to stretch the time

and/or here's how I clone, but putting a dome of some kind over your babies until they get bigger (probably too late now) will help

I haven’t started bottom feeding yet. Probably one more top feed wait a few days and turn on the Rez. These had, I think kind of a rough start to life. Not optimal heat, or humidity. Couple that with little seedlings in big pots and I’m not surprised that one is struggling. Hell all of them have kind of struggled. I think the others are healthy but not as far a long as they could be.

Yeah I’m gonna pop 4 more beans in a few weeks. Put them in solo cups under a dome and on top of a heating mat. That way I can keep the environment more stable while they are seedlings. People say not to transfer auto flowers because of their short lifecycle but my last grow with photos I noticed maybe a 24 hour stall after transplanting is all. So much easier to take care of in solo cups that I think it will be worth it. I’m gonna cover the little lady with a small dome for now But the others I think have enough established roots that they will be fine

Good evening. Got excited for the next chapter in my grow story. Plants are looking healthy except one. Pretty sure it’s going to die but I’ll leave it in the ground until it does. I’ve lowered my light slightly in the tent and bumped up to 350 ppfd across plant tops. I’ve decided to turn my humidifier up a notch and just be more diligent on refilling the reservoir. I filled my autopot reservoir with a 180 ppm megacrop solution. My plan is to feed very light and help correct deficiencies ( within reason ) via foliar feed. I’ll turn the resevoir on tomorrow once I see the ph stabilize for 24 hours. I bought another tent set up. This one is 4x4 and will be powered by quantum boards. I’m going to run the same strain in it but with one difference. I’ll be starting out in solo cups and transplanting around week 2. I expect I’ll start germination on New Year’s Day, because why not? . I’ll post that grows progress in this thread. ✌ and ❤

First off why are you feeding a seedling? autos have very weak root systems and if your not careful your gonna burn it, i never feed till day 21 then very lighley, next run your autos 18 on 6 off you are unnecessarily stressing your plants and autos do not like stress, in my opinion yea you can run them 24 7 but they need a period of darkness so they can rest and stretch out, your not gonna get more weed just stressed plants and a bigger light bill, here is a pic of toof decay auto at day 69, did not feed till day 21 and then lighley, ran 18 on 6 off and went eaysy on nutrients, more light and more nutrients does not mean more weed ecpesialy with autoflowers.

Running light schedule 20 on and 4 off I’ll be doing my next run on a regular 18/6 but for now it helps keep the heat up. What medium are you growing in?

Is this in coco? I didn’t know plants had that much stored nutrients to get that big. Those are beautiful by the way. Mine are no where near that. Is that 19 days from seed?

The rest of my grow equipment for the new tent will be here by this weekend. Just waiting on the quantum boards. I’ll be using lower watt t5’s for the first little while so I decided to go ahead and germ 6 more of the northern lights autos. Because of my lackluster start on the last 6 I’ve been more meticulous in prepping for these. Most people and places seem to recommend a 60/40 or 70/30 ratio of coco to perlite. I’ve been doing 50/50 but switched to 60/40. Might make a difference might not 🤷‍♂️. I’ve also seen a lot of recommendations for double buffering coco. In the past I’ve only done it once. This go around I double buffered. I also rinsed till run off was below 25 ppm (took awhile for my ro units to produce that much fresh water 😂) I premixed my substrate several days in advance and brought it upstairs to warm up. Previously I buffered and mixed it same day with like 50 degree water. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me then that taking a fragile seedling from an 80 degree climate to a 50 degree climate would shock it. These little ladies will start there life in the basement. My plan was to house them in germinator with tall sides, and a heat mat. rather than set it up right before I put them in there I’ve set it all up now so I can tweak the vents and temperature to perfect beforehand. Here’s to hoping
