beneficial microbes in hydroton pellets?

Ive been growing in a ebb n flo system with hydroton as my medium. I use Voodoo juice, Piranha and Tarantula as microbes. I hand feed each contaniner during the first couple weeks of flower since I have such a large res. In my res I have in Sugar Daddy and Flora nectar as food for the microbes to feed on. Along with my nute regimin for flowering. My question is are my microbes surviving in that kind of medium or resevoir? Or am I wasting $ on microbes? In past batches ive added rockwool chunks along with the hydroton for the microbes to collinate to. I didnt notice that helping anymore than just using hydroton alone. I do notice if im not using microbes at all my yeild is noticeably smaller.
