Man or Astroman??? Really?!? They're still around? I saw them open for Jesus Lizard like 20 years ago, back when I lived in Portland. Actually got to hang with them and Jesus Lizard before and after the show.
I never really thought about it until just now, but somehow I've managed to meet and hang with a bunch of artists I admire. Somehow, over the course of my life, I've been friends with people who are friends with artists I really admire. John Spencer Blues Explosion/Boss Hog, Jesus Lizard, Swervedriver, Helmet (waaaayyyyy back haha), even kicked it with Willie Nelson once and fucking Bono (who was a pretentious dickhead, btw. And also got lewd with my sister, I was super-pissed and didn't break his jaw just because the people I was with convinced me it wasn't a good idea; I still think it was a good idea haha).
Reverend Horton Heat? Del the Funky Homosapian? Man, you are taking me waaaayyyy back haha. I saw the Rev a long time ago, in, I think, St Petersburg FL. Good show.
Didn't realize that Alabama Shakes was even getting played on top 40 radio. I never listen to the radio, so.... But good for them, I guess. Right? As much as I hate commercialism and selling out (which I don't think A Shakes did at all), I'm always happy to see bands who deserve to make it, make it. Fuck Justin Beiber and Katy Perry and all that garbage. Those people have no business making music. But if Alabama Shakes is getting paid, good for them. People who deserve it deserve it. The only thing I hate about bands I like getting big is it means I can't go to their shows anymore haha. Never mind the difference in ticket prices between their firsts shows at tiny venues like the echo and subsequent shows, after they get big, at like the forum or staples center. It's more the crowd that I just can't deal with. And I realize that that's my own problem, but frat boys and shitty drunk girls really ruin the whole experience for me.
If you haven't already, check out "Fate" by Dr Dog. Fucking great album. I think you'd like it.
I'll take full plant pics tonight so I can get this thread back to Bodhi stuff. But I love music, so anybody who's looking at this thread, try to accept that I'm gonna start talking about other shit (music, mostly probably; and maybe just whatever's on my mind haha)....
