Play with it bro.. cut some don't cut some.. see what happens.. no one magical set in stone way of doing it. Be a mad scientist.. that way you'll see what is best for you :)
There is a pretty set couple ways to do it depending on your patience... there is a specific way to take indole 3 butyric acid cuts and youll get a 99% success rate less than 2 weeks.
 
My grandma roots cutting of tree limbs and flowers in a cup on the kitchen window sill.
I used red solo cups with water and plastic wrap to clone before I got my aero cloner and had about 50% success.
If they are touching the bottom of the cup I would probably do a new fresh 45°cut when I got to where I was going
 
I've taken a bunch of cuts and put them in water threw them in the fridge and forgot about them like 5 weeks and over half of them rooted. Literally did nothing and got 50% rate.
