Boy, these bring back some good memories. I stayed at a place called Xtabi which is right on the cliffs. That was a great trip. I hired a cab guy who was parked out front of the place and paid him every day to basically be my tour guide and take me to some awesome spots. All the people in Jamaica were super nice. After Negril I took a bus over to Ocho Rios and I rented an apartment there. I didn't realize at the time it was a cruise ship place and for a couple days the whole place was completely closed. It was very strange. I paid a guy in that town to show me around and he took me down into this shanty place by the pier. It looked sketch as shit and I was traveling by myself but I went anyway and glad I did because there was this awesome fish restaurant there. Man, that was a great trip.Highly developed, from what I have seen from afar, and more visitors. It happens.
There was a new resort just to the east, and a few independent “hotels” as I recall. Electricity went out for a while almost every day. Just to the west was the working lighthouse. Burned one with the pleasant lighthouse keepers while we waited out the daily storm there. Like you, I had to abandon my stash at the hotel before catching a flight home.
I loved “island time” and you’re right, every person we met was nice to us. Here’s the lighthouse in current times, and a shot of Rick’s Cafe just for fun.
Some years back I was visiting Burlington, Vermont for a Mother Earth News conference. It also happened there was a Jaz festival at the time and I remember sitting on a wall they have along the shore of Lake Champlain and thinking how beautiful that place was and I had an epiphany, why didn't I live somewhere with that kind of natural beauty? I want to live and grow in a place where people go to vacation. Not Vermont though because I've grown tired of snow and winters with slush and ice and cold. Not for me. I like the ocean and beaches. Now I live in Florida and I love it.. I can easily vacation at home..and grow weed..yup there’s that
That’s the kind of place I live. Two crystal clear completely spring fed rivers that see thousands of canoers, rafters and families. A huge trail ride that goes a week at a time once a month. I however love the four seasons here. Just about the time I get tired of one another rolls around. I think spring flowers after a long winter teaches the heart hope. Some years back I was visiting Burlington, Vermont for a Mother Earth News conference. Sounds truly epic. I've only ever heard nice things about your neck of the woods. Florida does come with all the things that everyone always say about it but it reminds me of the place where I grew up outside of Cincinnati. I often refer to Florida as tropical Ohio. I'm still looking for land to build out my dream but I'm definitely ready to pull the trigger on the right property when it becomes available. It's going to be really cool. That’s the kind of place I live. Two crystal clear completely spring fed rivers that see thousands of canoers, rafters and families. I fell in love with the Keys and with Navarre Island, what stopped me dead in my tracks? The drinking water! After having had spring fed wells most of my life, I just couldn’t go it.
So the husband and I have decided our next trip, we will just rent a condo for a couple of months. No upkeep, no taxes, no repairs.
There are a lot of people but like most places they are clustered into cities. Plenty of rural living too, it's a huge state. I love the climate here and all the strange and delicious plants you can grow year round. At the same time growing things can be real challenge. The soil is mostly sand and many verities of things I grew easily up north don't grow well here. The sun is also very intense. Everything has advantages and disadvantages but for me personally, this place checks off most of the boxes. A lot of people who want to live a regenerative lifestyle avoid Florida for many of the reasons I shared. I've seen people do it though and I'm as determined as they come. The price of land exploded over the past couple of years which has been an issue. It's given me time to thoroughly research the area to a point where I know exactly what to look for in land. You really have to be careful with water here but there are plenty of fantastic places with plenty of amazing animal life and natural features. It's all just very different from most places in the US.My husband keeps trying to sell me on Florida. I don't think I'd like it, I like four seasons and mountains. Also, way too many humans... Like 300,000 plus more every year. I'm sure there are cool areas.
the real gold is how low are the branches from the snow - let's see those flexxxx shots :)This isn't so much........right..? :(

Isn’t Florida considered the national old folks home?My husband keeps trying to sell me on Florida. I don't think I'd like it, I like four seasons and mountains. Also, way too many humans... Like 300,000 plus more every year. I'm sure there are cool areas.
I'm not going to deny any of it. I've only been in FL for just about 3 years and I've seen so much wild shit. It's all true. Still, it feels like home to me.the real gold is how low are the branches from the snow - let's see those flexxxx shots :)

Lmaooo! I don’t know that I would worry so much about being seen at a Taylor Swift concert as much as I would be having been seen with a closet furry! Sorry, I just couldn’t resist
Happy you are back!![]()
And Churches......unbelievable how many there are....Everywhere on all 4 corners of some street cross roads, small towns with 4 -5 churches, I didn't notice any drive through like in Vegas but I'm sure they're there too.Isn’t Florida considered the national old folks home?
I have one right across the street from me. It's a Catholic church but it's all Indian people. They do all kinds of wild and colorful celebrations, sometimes with many hundreds of people. I'm not religious but it's fun to watch. The southern US is known to be very religious. Anything else on that is outside of my purview. And Churches......unbelievable how many there are....Everywhere on all 4 corners of some street cross roads, small towns with 4 -5 churches, I didn't notice any drive through like in Vegas but I'm sure they're there too.
I've driven through a lot of Florida and some of the prettiest country I've seen was in the north west somewhere about 1/2 way from Tallahassee to Orlando. With compass in hand we were zigzagging through a place with a ton of small lakes Oak trees and trees with the Spanish moss low hanging on the trees. It was like when you know you're in a park its just too beautiful not to be.......I've looked on Google maps many times over trying to find it again but I've yet to locate it...I know almost where but its elusive........It had water moccasin written all over it though. There are a lot of people but like most places they are clustered into cities.
