Coco and Athena! Never look Back

Hey guys!! I thought I’d post a thread on my success with coco as in the beginning I was very new to. I ran several lines of water based nutrients from GH, Botanicare, Canna, advanced nutrients, house and garden, and even emerald harvest. But none of these came close to the overall structure and smoke of each plant after running Athena Salt based nutrients.

With Athena I have seen my grow go from pretty great to phenomenal in just a couple weeks. All the starters, clones I take never turn yellow now, and explode when they are transplanted into coco with Athena on board!

I mix all my nutrients with the new innovative “Aeromixer” pumps worth checking into Bc they are night and day difference when it comes to Feed .

Im in the process of setting up a automated drip irrigation system powered by Dab pump and Dosatron as I hand feed all my girls at the moment. Haven’t gotten that far yet plumbing wise as it’s going to need a little engineering on my end before it’s concrete.
I’m not a plumber by any degree but I know a little as most of us do to get by.

Im thinking on doing ball valves for manual running with dosatron but solenoids have their perks just not familiar with that stuff yet so any feedback would be helpful.

Can send pics to any of you willing to help the cause before I have to shell out money for a legit plumber or irrigation specialist.

But definitely change your nutrient line to Athena and give it a run and see the go off like why you didn’t do this before ! I will hook you up anyone with my personal rep at Athena, amazing service and quality to stand behind. I will never look back!!

Hi just wondering what were your EC's and PH since seedling, Veg and Bloom. How many times you did water in a day all with nuts or a few just water ?.

I'm running by now Floraflex that is similar to Athena but only 1 grow changed from soil with Biobizz a total mess to Coco looks more in control in my experience.

Clones yellow from to much light it has nothing to do with nutrients. They don't even have roots to be able to take a significant amount up.

If I seem skeptical it's because I am and looking objectively. Often you see ppl attribute things to improvements that are just not the case.

What's different about it? I'm asking because I only hear an opinion and well... opinions are like..... you know what I mean.

I'm not saying you have not had great success with it. But unless you can show me the difference between this and any other nutrient I'm not buying what your selling.

Any nutrient line will keep your plant green without burning if you don't over feed them.

If you really start digging into these product mixes they are all very similar in overall quantities of NGP and the micro's. The basic salt based formula has been around for a very long time.

The challenge is the sales person at the hydro store. IMO they will tell the customer whatever they can to sell products.
The post by Bill Farting is probably the best advice one can get in regards to nutrients.

Yep that it's... heavy 16 fire has triacontanol like green planet massive and others they cost a lot.

The heavy 16 lineup is complete as hell and the schedules they provide are pretty dam good compared to others I look at. Of you don't mind paying an arm and a leg. But that recipe by billfarthing is a perfect example of a great mix that's easily done and cheap. You could add in the PGRs if it's your cup of tea. I personally like triacontanol but I don't feel it's needed and any product you buy that contains it is going to hurt your wallet. You can toy with it separately but imo that's not at all begginer friendly and likely to cost you an attempt ot 2 to get right as such a tiny amount is required it's not just plug and play imo.

What price is your rep giving you?

I thought about switching to Athena because I ran out of my HGV flower formula. With HGV I am able to use cheap calnitrate as my "base" however Athena puts the micronutrients in their base. So for $175 X2 I just didn't see any value, now HGV isn't cheap ($240 for 25lbs) but I'm happy with the results. My buddy uses Athena and it does a good job.

If I do make a switch it will probably be to Jack's.

I believe Chris Durand is the Director of Manufacturing over there, and he has many podcasts for you to listen to in case you would like to educate yourself more on their products. Also, I believe the cost per gallon for mixing the Pro line is about 8 cents. Very affordable stuff. For what it is worth, I am running Growth Science right now. Probably making the switch to Athena this next run.

Agreed, the "hydro store" is not the place to go looking for fertilizer regime advice. Been there, done it. They are looking to milk people, one after another.

Master blend is cheapest, cheaper than Jacks, far cheaper than Athena. As for the Magnesium sulfate, I get that at the dollar store, and the Calcium Nitrate I buy in bulk, usually 5lb for me; (small fine pellet size).

I was looking at the Athena grow 2-8-20, and it's basically 50% strength master blend 4 18 38, with a tad more leaning potassium. As you say; all minor ratio tweaks. I buy potassium as a pH up, (in bulk) in the form of potassium hydroxide. (KOH) As for the bloom formulation; just purchase monopotassium phosphate in bulk, mix in the required KOH to balance it out.

As for 1-Triacontanol, I scoop a 1/4 tsp of wild unfiltered crystalized bee's honey, with it's wax, and alcohols into the mix and mix it up, letting my microbes work on the sugar parts... But it can be had in lab grade pure form on ebay, from multiple sources. I agree that probably shouldn't be attempted without some good basic understanding of measures and adhering to proper mixing protocols, pH requirements.


Triacontanol is not water-soluble. It should be dissolved first in polysorbate 20 and diluted well with a specific amount of water to achieve your desired dose. It's best applied in it's pure form, as a foliar, IMO.

Again, I do not think this is true. I believe Athena manufactures their own products. I recently read an article published March of this year where the Director of Manufacturing speaks about expanding their production facilities and the importance of doing everything in house.

I totally agree with your home brews. I am in the city and with traffic and my schedule saving a couple cents a gallon and brewing my own formulas is not really practically. I believe with the Athena Pro stuff I am around 6 cent a gallon. It just does not make a ton of sense to me right now to go out and buy and blend at home.

I realize everyone of the nutrient companies would like you to think they have the ability to manufacturer the products and blend to the end product but the truth is there are fewer than you might think. Secondly, go to their website and try to find out if they have a facility. They do not even have a listed address. Most of these nutrient companies are just middle men, I use the product and I have nothing against the line but I do firmly believe they are subbing out the manufacturing. If you really want to get down to the bottom of things start looking at the line of liquid and you will quickly see if you compare them to the grow more line they are watered down.

I am not going to do that because I know it is pointless. While we are at it, show me where Grow More states they make Athena Ag products. Lastly, I worked for a grow shop for a while when I was waiting for licensing, and I spoke to a lot of reps. A lot more of them make their own shit than you might think. Maybe Grow More has the raw material some of these companies use to make their products, but that is a different talking point, and I don't believe that is what you are saying.
