Sorry , I run soilless. Ocean Forest soil.
With organic nutes, recycled Fox Farm soil.

So how is your new building coming along? Sorry I haven't checked your thread in about 4 days. I usually catch up on Sun morning...

so I do run DTW......but I believe that when my seedlings are ready.....I will have my recirc drip set up and ready
basically like a dutch bucket system but with pots filled with hydroton sitting on a tray
as for the power pack.....I dont see the advantage of 60-80 bucks per pot
building your own out of 2.00 5 gal buckets and an air stone for each would be way cheaper and just as effective
you do have the space to build a dutch bucket system
but in any case.....
I dont like the whole dwc + ebb n flo
I dont see the atvantage.....what I do see are to many moving parts and to much to go wrong with virtually no advantage over a simple system
when something is hooked to a res....I want to be able to unhook one and the system keeps running
so IMO if I am gonna run a res then I am gonna eleminate any possiblilty of disaster
if no res then just 5 gal buckets with stones...seperate from each other all hooked to the air pump
that allows you to move them one way or another or wherever you need them
again.....this is just my opinion....as for what you want to do....I understand what you are wanting to accomplish but that bucket you have isnt the reason why the plant is doing so well....its because it is a dwc bucket....the drip ring serves as no atvantage over a standard dwc....it is just to sustain the roots until they reach the res below

oh yeah....
called and talked to the main dude @ botanicare Matt I believe....we talked alot about his products and how to use them
I was having a problem in my res with his pure blend tea
he told me to take out the air stones and replace it with a submersible pump
to mix the nutrients every so often
I set it up to run for 30 min every 3 hours
so far....no more stink and no floaties in the res
he said that the air stones dont move the fluid just oxygenates it....which I dont need because I am running coco so there is plenty of oxygen in the coco...and I dont need to supply it through the solution
now even with the tea....my res is super stable and clean

That was exactly what I was wanting to hear! That answered my question completely!
(((but that bucket you have isnt the reason why the plant is doing so well....its because it is a dwc bucket....the drip ring serves as no atvantage over a standard dwc))) now I can move forward with my thinking. Thank You. I am gonna go recirc drip but now that I know the powergrower isnt some mythological unit, I have found the unit I am gonna buy, after many hrs of deliberations. Now I know I don't need all 8 buckets, but i don't see a 4 pack. The price is right and it is a good system I can build around. You know from day 1, I wanted to go this route, I just couldnt see spending $500 to $800. But 200 I can swing. I think even any flaws with this system such as too small a lines, I can always upgrade diy. Honestly I spent almost a 100 building the table, and I would of been well to put it towards this. But the table served its purpose and taught me a lot. Managing a res. Baby steps and this is where my next step will be. See the prob Wish is I am an engineer, and my father was a machinst fromm ww2 to 1971 with Catapillar and lots of moving patrs, and tinkering,, well wish its in my blood. I have as much fun with the systems as I do growing mj. I am cursed...lol Here is my decision....

I read some post to that same effect. Said take the air stones out of the res. Will cause ph flux. Just agitate the fluid periodically... Glad to see your guy gave you the same info I read :)

he said what was happening is the oxygenated h20 was allowing the hydroguard to overpopulate and break down the carbon rich tea in turn allow the hudroguard to explode
I literally had light brown slime along with little thigs that almost looked like kelp growing (which was the bacteria from hydroguard)

the system looks cool except for the rings and .....how does it recirculate....I dont see how it can recirculate

And give me your thoughts as to benefits of recir dwc compared to dwc,, A lot of people do it and love it.

See remember when I said something about foam, well the stones was really zapping that fluid cause it had dropped about 2 inches, added water and next day all gone and clear.... spells good looks good

lol well smells good,,, spells,,, ha that couldn't happen again..

See the white hose going into the grey thing with a blue hose at the bottom, it works with air to pull fluid from the last bucket in the daisy chain, which in turn due to gravity in each bucket pulls fluid thru the system. It is almost passive in context to most high power recir systems. Thats why I said I might use my pump which has a adjustable flow valve on it to pull fluid thru the system a little quicker if I don't find it able to do the job. But remember I am only gonna use 4 buckets which should make it a lot easier to circulate.

well I dont believe in recirc dwc
only one or the other
what I have heard about recirc dwc is only bad....that it is a potential for root rot and other pathogens as the water sits in each pot and then pumps back .....however it works
with dwc you can seperate each plant contained in its own solution never effecting the others
with recirc....most you can pull a plant and leave the rest
dutch buckets
flood and drain
nft....
all recirc
all simple pump in gravity out....to many working parts....to much to go wrong
with plants....simpler the better

It deff makes one up his game a little. I want the challenge. A wish!!! LOL here is the good thing. If I don't like it, I got 8 stand alone dwc :) With a nice ass air pump... I am gonna jump! You know I teke your advice on EVERYTHING!,,, But I am gonna give it a shot, if it don't work, I will have my 8 single unit dwc to take me well into having fun growing. I want to learn now about getting the seed to dwc ready. And Clone to dwc ready... Those are my next areas of study. The first 3 weeks. I want to learn everything I can about that first 3 weeks and transplant into dwc... So I welcome any more links to good videos on this subject. I have been watching vaders videos. I really like his style of video making. But coco is getting put up, and rockwool, hydroton is what I need to learn. So while you ponder that I am gonna go mow my grass :)

but if you can pull it off....I would be stoked for you
Thank you, and I know you will my brother... I know that you will do everything you can to help me be successful. Honestly we make a good team, you give insight and I go study it. I am looking forward to seeing what we can do. I told you a month ago, even when they looked so little, I had all the faith in the world, and I have 10x that today thanks to a lot of your advice and explanations, esp the bakers math and nutes percentages. Me and my plants had exceptional growth after that! Lets make the newbies on this site have to read 60 more pages of our next grow journal :)
Hell wish,,, maybe we might even get one of the big growers to acknowledge our lil setup before its over.
And last but deff not least, and maybe the hardest will be deciding the strain that I use to dial it all in.

yeah I dont think ....if my life depended on it....I would ever use rockwool....a horrible media with no forgiveness.....I constantly read on peoples journals ..." my plants are drowning.....I am growing algae......blocks wont dry...." and it has no forgiveness
when using hydroton....you dont have to use rockwool.....I use root riot cubes for everything....they are made of some type of compressed peat.....but they dont break down.....and they are much more forgiving...once the cutting is rooted you drop into the hydroton....
for seedlings...
you can make a dwc out of the type of tote you have for your res
drop in 2" net pots into the top
it would be like a clone machine for seeds
you pop the seed like normal in a paper towel
once the tail pops
you put in the root riot cube and drop that in the net pot....with mild nutrient solution in the res....you now have a "seed spa"
once the roots pop through the root riot cube....
you pull it out and drop into the final bucket

Here is a description of it..

Top Feed Aeroponic Recirculation Water Culture 4" x 2" 40 gallons 8 pots system.
"Brand New" Original Box

(what it comes with)
- 8 grow bucket modules connects to
- integrated 4 gallon reservoir and
- 4 gallon controller unit. powered by
- commercial air pump

- comes with all the necessary hardware.

-fits into a 4" x 2" or larger hydro grow tent.

Easy to install water and air hose / assemble hose ends. because this kit comes pre-made. no need to cut any hose. just plug and play.

Made specially for Indoor Gardens! with FDA food grade light reflective buckets.

This is one of the most reliable and user friendly water culture system on the market. what makes this system so special is that its a combination of few water culture technics, With the top root zone in large area of hydroponic growing medium. the middle root zone hanging in mid air. Know as "aeroponics" the lower root zone submerged in nutrient. Know as "Deep water culture" you wont have to worry about a power failure.

(How it works)

Unlike water pumps which does not pump air into each grow buckets. The commercial grade air pump delivers oxygenated nutrient to each bucket's water ring on top of each 2 gallons grow bucket, at the same time injecting and pumping abundant amount of fresh oxygen into each of the 8 grow buckets on the bottom, rising the relative humidity in the grow buckets . The nutrient then drips into the lower buckets. The nutrient is then recirculated back to the controller, and the process is repeated again and again mixing the nutrient Yielding the same PPM within the whole system. Roots in all the buckets is in a oxygen rich and nutrient rich environment.

you will grow bigger plants and get better harvest.

(design benefit's)

The air pump that comes with this system is a reliable commercial grade air pump that is design to run 27/7 non stop for years to come. So you don't have to worry about clogging it, cleaning or changing filters on water pumps. This is an edge over most other systems on the market today with waterpump. Even In the case of an power outage this system can save your plants for days or even weeks because of its design. Most other systems on the market within few hours of power outage the roots will either dry out or rot and the plants will be stuned from growth and most likely die. with this system you wont have to worry about that happening because in the case of a power outage this system basically turns into a wick system.

Easy install unlike other kits which you need to cut water and air hose / assemble hose ends. this kit comes pre-made. just plug and play

This is an excellent, unbeatable, limited offer, and one that you don't want to miss out on.

(Shipping)

The shipping will consist of a total weight of 40 lbs. and ships out in plain brown box without any logos or any hint of what is inside the packaging, for Discreet and stealth shipping

I never heard of this! I thought I HAD to use rockwool to start my seeds! BIG RELEIF. i WISH i WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS LONG AGO. Damn how did i miss that!

Wisher that is exactly what I wanted to hear! Root spa.. cheap and easy, and exactly like your experiment with the( damn i forgot what they were) :(
Well off to read about riot cubes. Damn @Midwestjay was right your a fucking encyclopedia of information. And a pretty good guy too //////////p;

And honestly Wish them buckets got to be badass, vause if jay can lug then damn plants from one end of tenn to the other once a week and they still look that good,, well hell enough said.... hehe... Hope you doing good jay, and the girls!

this is what I have used for leafy greens
dwc
I first started out with the kratkey method
basically what is called float or raft system
I then bumped it up to this
you can use this for seeds .....you can remove the whole net cup and drop it into the hydroton

Ok looks good. Here come the questions. Only a couple because its simple enough.
1. Do you run a stone in it?
2. do you add water up to the bottom of the net cup untill you see some roots poking down in it, at which time you let normal evaporation drop level and make roots chase it for a few days, just maintaing ph?
3. Nute strength starting ec?
4. ph?
5. How importain is ph the first few days? between 5.8 to 6.1 fine?
6. Water temp? Hydrogaurd?

1. yes air stone
2.yes up to the net cup...the splash from the airstone will keep the cube wet
3. nute strength .5-1.0
4. ph 5.5
5. hydroguard yes...water temp same as any hydro setup...65-75 degrees F
