All the air(fungus, bacteria, shit) runs over those fins and people want to collect in and put it in their rez. Maybe if I lived in a Dune environment. JK
I have Kenmore's, recommend Sante fe's.
I've always had ones with removable/washable filters. Isn't all that shit caught by the filter? I've been recycling my Ac/Dehuey waste water for a while now. Plants don't seem to mind.

And I have walked thru a mine field before, why raise the odds when not necessary. JK

I'm not trying to argue with you, you could be correct. But I would like evidence, not just your thoughts. Got any? How does that stuff make it through the filters?

You could collect the water, treat it with UV before introducing into the res :)

Yup, I had some bouts with this weird nasty slime on my roots, like glue almost, started off white then turned brown. I started treating all my water with a UV light before introducing it to the plants, I actually use one from petsmart. :)

I also hit the water with h202 when I fill up my plain water res, just as a little extra safety precaution.

After a couple days of the water circulating through the UV, the h202 has dissipated(I use a much larger dose than if you were dosing a system with plants in it).

I tried just hitting the res with h202 alone but I still kept getting slimed

Personally I think the UV sterilizer is one of my most important pieces of equipment, haven't had the slime problem in several years now. :)

I got mine from grainger, its a 130 pint commercial unit. Fantech .I paid 1500
It stays constantly on so it can be run by a controller. It also came with a condensate pump but I dont use it since I hang it in the air anyways.

I've always used Dri-Eaz 2000's. Expensive but awesome.

Commercial, and big and heavy.

I would think unless there is a hepa filter on it a lot of things will get through most filters(most are dust collectors). If I lived in a moist area I would not chance it. I just try to eliminate most potential hazards before they become problems. Mainly because I am a naturally lazy bastard and build around me to help me raise my handicap. Suerte JK

Yeah I had a buddy get that grayish looking slime that turned to brown goop on his roots in his GH waterfarm buckets. He had to totally switch systems once he got it because it never went away even after heavy cleaning and sterilizing. Bummer.

So, do you just hang the light above your open reservoir? How many watts is the bulb? How far from the rez? Also, how much more h202 do you use during the UV phase? Thanks.

for all those santa fe users, here is a message it got from them:

Unfortunately, none of the units from the Santa Fe product line are going to work in the conditions you are looking for. The greenhouse environment is extremely hard on the product and would void and warranty that you unit would come with. The product line that would best suit you environment would be the Hi-E Dry products.

My hydro store bought a shitload of used equipment.

I bought a 100 pt IDEALAir for $500.

Its awesome.

I agree with JK. They had 7 of these and only 3 had never been run. I got one that had never been run. I have never had PM. Putting a bigass fan that MIGHT have been exposed to PM in my spot was NOT gonna happen. I dont care how good of a deal it is.

FWIW, I was gonna buy the Santa Fe until this came along. I couldn't pass up the price.

I'm with JK- too many potential issues with recycling dehuey water to chance it.

I run a frigidaire 70 pint unit in my sealed room, it has worked fine thus far- only had it a few months- but it gets a little help from my Ice Box cooling system. I also live in a more arid climate than some.

Got mine on craigslist, $125. Figured if it was a crap unit then I'm not out too mcuh coin.

im with you on the drieaz dehu's (commerical ones)
if your lucky go on craigslist and look for one. usually there is a restoration company going out of business. those dehumidifers are meant to run for months and months non stop .they have very good filters on them and scrub the air alittle bit also ,and a hose that will reach almost any sink or drain .
alittle pricy but well worth it.
