They had done raised the price of my new tent that I wanted to 400... I said hell with that. I build the room for 400! Might even be able to get a autopilot if I budget really well....
Then I think I'm gonna start trying to budget in replacement lights for the hps/mh...
I can't decide weather I want to go with cmh315 or cobs...
At 60 a bulb x 2 twice a year plus the costs to run the hids, I just think I need to upgrade when it comes time to replace bulbs.. At least 1 of the lights and then the other one soon after.

easily able to build a room for 400
dude for 400 in materials you could completely comparmentalize the grow space with seperate veg/bloom/clone/mom area
with drywall/insulation and the works

So, I've been reading up on people using different lights. I've been trying to find one where someone combines LEC/CMH with a top bin COB. As in thinking of trying that.

Then to compound matters the new hotness in LED isn't even COBs it's now "Quantum Boards" which I'm just now looking into. Some guys in the LED forum have some radical stuff going on.

quantom boards are cool but really it is just single diode boards kinda like Spectrum King on a larger scale

when I build my next grow cab
my lights are gonna be recessed into the ceiling
HPS in the center and 2 Cree cobs on each side
for a total of 750w
over a 2x4 table
since my state laws have changed I am going single stem SOG maxing out the tray

once the cab is built
I will then use my old cab for breeding

Ok so question. Why not CMH surrounded by Crees. And which cob 3590?

Top Bin 3500k 3590 ran @ 2100Ma
that is 75w per cob
300w of cob produces 150 par watts
925ppfd @ 18"in a 2x4 area
but if I run the hps center and 2 cobs per side it would be murder

I like cmh but I have the white spectrum already with the cobs
and the red of the hps
already have all the equipment and dont need to spend any more on lights and whatnot

Nice, game changer if you already have the equipment, for sure. I have 8 72v 3590 3500k run at 700mA (4 cob per driver) for 400w right meow. I've been considering another row of 4 for a better footprint and 600w which should be great in a 4x4. But I've also been looking at a CMH315 to put in the tent and I can reframe the 8 COBs in a grid around it. Any thoughts since I don't own the equipment?

no thoughts.....sounds pretty good

I have ran HPS for a long time and have always been able to grow large rock solid buds
I have run these LEDs for about a year and they perform great
not as rock solid as hps or as big but def WAY more frosty
so I am just gonna combine the 2

Good conversation boys.. Always good info..
I'm thinking more along the lines of my dimmable, selectable hps, surrounded by 8 75 watt cobs...

If I'm correct in my thinking.., the cobs are dimmable to and I could use only the cobs in veg. I'm running 1200 watts mh right now in veg... Complete overkill and I will rectify that within the year! I could dim them cobs to 25 watts a piece and be saving HUGE right now...
Having 8 cobs above 8 buckets, would be awesome especially if I had them placed off to the outside slightly pointed slightly in,, so that I could keep my hps in the middle way up top like a big ass sun with out the leds blocking it... ... with my super horti hps bulbs...

I also liked the idea of recessed lighting. I could do that with the floor rafters, and then create a air flow thru it to keep the sinks cool.

yeah what I was thinkin for lights was the hps in the middle and 2 cobs on either side
I was gonna make it so they arent moveable
just stationary
of course I veg in a dif area so this system would be strictly for flowering
in veg I still like my T-8 they do well

what I was thinkin was when they go to flower....for the first week only cob then on goes the hps.....giving them a chance for transition without bleaching and all that
