Due to shit tons of rain and not being on top of the garden like flies on rice Powdery Mildew has take over the trumpet vine on the fence. I fight it every week particularly around the green house. So far so good, knock. The following pic is a week or 2 before defoliating.
My question is did I go too far with defoliating and what effect does defoliating too much have on the end product? 3rd day after they are still like an 18 year old with 2 viagras….happy as shit! Following 3 pics after defoliation.
Beyond watching hundreds of YouTube videos and staying at a holiday inn, I’m a first time grower with 0 cannabis growing experience. I’ve grown a garden for dozens of years with good outcomes. Cannabis growing is nothing like your typical garden for me anyway.
I used foxfarm ocean soil, promix bx, coast of Maine lobster crab compost to start. Nutrients I used the foxfarm trio, and top dressed twice with down to earths alfalfa, oyster shells, EW castings, fish bone meal, and kelp meal. Yeah, yeah, I bought into the nutrient hype for my first time ignoramus grow. After many Ph meter fails I wound up with an Apera 60, which is consistently maintained and calibrated to 4 and 7. Excellent buy.
I began the week before Memorial Day. Currently have 8 plants from a bag of mixed seeds given to me from a friend who worked at a dispensary. The bag contained Cali Orange, blue dream, blue Cindy, and GG. I believe the 2 8’rs in the back are blue Cindy but the rest is anybody’s guess.
Back to the Powdery Mildew…it’s had me shitt’n for 1.5 months now but I refuse to use fungicides or any other chemicals. I eat tons of veggies from the garden so I stuck with neem oil, baking soda, dish detergent, and olive oil. My idea was to keep the greenhouse closed to the infected area, treat the soil and veg all around the greenhouse and monitor closely, and keep the greenhouse well ventilated with a huge fan inside.
I trimmed all along the grow but decided to go nuts beginning 3rd week of flower(for 6 of them, 2 plants started flower premee). Flowering brought on such growth that I could barely move without bending branches. With that in mind and the powdery mildew I went all in and pretty much left only the bud sites and new leaves.
Again, My question is did I go too far with defoliating and what effect does defoliating too much have on the end product bud sites.
