I didnt know it held water and could keep a plant alive that long. That alleviates my problem. And i could use the little cubes in my containers and still move the plants. Maybe i will hand water one to see one of these days. Thanks for the info...

It's the only way I would ever do it, With DWC, NFT, or hydroton there is a really small window to get backup power going.

Power goes out with rockwool and the plant stops transpiring until you get backup lights and power going anyway. No need to worry about aerating pumps or anything like that going out.

Honestly, it's really not much more complicated than running soiless as far as I can tell. There is a learning curve for sure but it's not that bad.

I can see why it's not for everyone, but I'm having fun with it and it works perfectly for my system. And besides the UV light which most people probably dont need, it's really only cost me about $180 in irrigation stuff. Rockwool alleviates some of the issue with power outages, as it can retain a lot of water and keep the plants alive for a few days. I run a backup generator anyway.

For me the benefits outweigh the initial setup and costs. Automated watering is a huge one I wanted to do anyway, greatly enhanced growth rate compared to my promix grows, I'm using less water overall, way more control over ph and ec in the rootzone. Only downside for me has been installing the watering system with my fucked up back, I swear I'm two steps from needing a walker. I can barely put my shoes on these days.

I really like the concept of using the rockwool croutons in fabric pots. I imagine the air pruned root structure will go berserk in the wool with all those air pockets. Ive got 5 of these plants, one to replace the one I killed with ph9 and 4 to add an extra row. Not gonna top these ones to try and keep the canopy roughly the same. From what I've seen the lag time is much shorter in the croutons, and the clones going into them are very well established. Let's see what they can do in a week and a half for veg.View attachment 912288
I have seen people do runs in the croutons like what your doing. Work very well.

I think @damien50 uses em... He has some nice grows going on.

Depending how this goes I might switch it all over to the croutons in fabrics next grow. I really like how an air pruned rootball forms in fabric pots, and the wool cubes would be an awesome inert substrate for that type of root system I think. I'd stick the floraflex caps on there and run it just like a block.

Ok thats it. Im going to need bigger than megacrop. Custom Huge-a-Crop! And im going to pour it in a huge tub of 6” hugos used as croutons. 1 500 gallon tub per plant and 1” hoses driven by a running pressure washer.

5000 watts per shed growing 1 plant per shed.

Thats 10,000 grams per shed!

Bunch of small time hobby hydroists round here. ;-)

You need to back away from the cream filled muffin sir. Did you ever think about the VPD you would be dealing with there?? 😁

Hijack the top-secret government weather control. Create a static tornado behind the shed and connect using stolen aquaduct from local water supply. This should keep humidity in check. 😁

I'm seriously laughing out loud over here

A massive super grow is only as complicated as you make it.

;-)

I swear to god if I had @MIMedGrower address I would send him a 22lb bag of mega crop for Christmas just to be an ass lol.
