The reason I'm thinking DWC is it's inexpensive and easy to build and seems like a pretty simple setup. Like I said I'm a complete cherry growing without soil, I haven't grown period in 25 years. I am very limited on space since I live in a state that will burn your ass for a oz of nugs. I have to be very discreet with my grow. (Stashed in my closet) I'm hydro illiterate right now so I'm just wanting to get something started to help my moral while I study different types of methods. Do you mind sharing the issues you had and how to avoid them? Thanks for the help

One of the issues is that you need to drain the tote periodically to change out the spent nutes. I do this ~ monthly in veg and weekly from mid-flower on. In a typical DWC you have to lift the plant out do so. Also, you need to monitor pH regularly.

By having a F & D the nutes are external making monitoring super easy

Thanks for that explanation J. With a blanket statement like "dont use distilled" i was like huh? I distill my own water because its cheaper than RO for me but i run organics so i was just curious why you hydro folk didnt like a good old fashioned still, makes sense though
It was a blanket Statement because I wanted the op to be successful. i wasn't writing a dissertation. I have experience on my side I've grown deep water for 6 straight years. Ph is very important and nearly impossible to keep in check with distilled water.

Sorry bustalung didnt mean to thread jack you, hit me up on my thread in my sig if you want midwest
Not a problem ArticOrange I'm just enjoying the read and trying to process all the info. I think my brain is full so in order to take in new info I have to delete some old irrelevant stuff so I needed the break...you know how us stoners are...LMAO.

Yea its easy to overcomplicate things. Its easier to get started and cross bridges as they come.

My thoughts exactly. I want get something started, I have the basic idea and I can figure out the do's and don'ts as I go. I'm gonna start with bag seeds so WTF I'm not losing $$ on killer seeds from a seed bank. If the grow turns out good I'll have some decent bud and if not I've still came out ahead from the experience.

Yea you'll get help with sexing and everything

I'm gonna try to use 2 buckets connected by a inch and a half pvc pipe a inch and a quarter from the bottom. One bucket to grow in and one bucket as a res. I can slowly fill the res. Until the

Ive got the sexing down bro, I've grew weed before just not hydro. Back in the 80's I grew every year just outdoors in dirt. Once the state started looking from the air I had to halt production quick, fast and in a hurry. This indoor hydro is all new to me. I might not need as big a tent as I mentioned before 3x3. I only want to grow one plant at a time, 2 at the most. I'm not gonna sell, not living in Ga. Hell no. I just want some premo bud for personal use.

Guys I'm sorry if some of my comments don't make sense or are cutoff halfway through the comment I'm using a phone to comment with and it don't always do what I want it to...

I recommend as big as you can get on the tent. I can easily fill this 2x4 tent with one plant. And when I had my 4x4 the biggest plants could use most of that space by themselves when you stretch them out. I'd get at least that 3x3.

Grow buckets connected to a 5 gal work fine. It's best to recirculate those but if you got plenty of bubbles in each bucket it's fine. You really went need the res on the grow bucket till after the plant is 6-8 weeks old, at that point it starts drinking close to a gal a day and keeping the res full is a chore. Until then just the 5 gal works fine.
