October 6th is the harvest moon. October 8th is the moon's perigee (closest to Earth) so gravitational pull from the moon is at its greatest. Many believe this helps pull moisture to the buds resulting in max potency and flavor.Had a biodynamic farmer friend stop this am, pretty sure you would know him. He said pick everything by Oct 5 . Said something about stars and moon. That age of Aquarius song started playing in my head.
I'm cape cod here. Little north of you guys. Bud Rot is just a fact of life. I've been pulling of a shit load. I had one plant totally infected so I chopped it and saved what I could - maybe 1/2 pound wet. The others have varying degrees of Rot. I've just been pulling the rot off as I go. I'm going to try to go another couple of weeks. The way I see it, I don't care about yield. If I have to shit can 80% of my total harvest to get 20% of excellence, I'm all in. These last couple of weeks will make a big difference.Hello! I live on the east end of Long Island. Lately the nights are cool but most days are warmer. My plants are in pretty direct sun. I know I had spots on 2 plants. I keep cutting them off but they return fast!
My question is- are they almost ready to dry? I’m leaving next week for 2 weeks and the timing seems to be when my plants will be ready. Or can I let them ride for 3 more weeks?
How much of the infected plant is too much to cut? I usually just go at it until I have had enough.
Thanks in advance. I got grove bags for curing. Hopefully that will make the process easier.
Oh! And water? My plants get pretty droopy without water so I water them a little every day or every other. Is that too much?
I had planned to try and go to mid October but since I won’t be home and no one to really come watch it i guess ill harvest it next week right before i leave.I'm cape cod here. I don’t know what that is? Submerge in water? I’ve never heard of that. What does it do?Make sure you do an H2O2/water dunk before you hang them to dry. Really shake them around under the water. It’s likely that you’ll miss a spot and this can help to “sterilize” the buds. Good luck!
I’ll be picking probably Tuesday. I think it’s the best I can do.Had a biodynamic farmer friend stop this am, pretty sure you would know him. He said pick everything by Oct 5 . Said something about stars and moon. That age of Aquarius song started playing in my head.
You aren't in the best situation but it is what it is. When I have run into bud rot, I would cut out a good amount of healthy tissue around the diseased area. There's always more to the infection than what you can see. If you cut out more healthy tissue, you will slow it down a bit. However, once its infected its hard to get rid of it no matter what you do.If I pull next week it will dry untouched for 2 full weeks. I’m away 10/2-10/16. I feel like im
In a lose lose here lol
Good idea! A friend told me to bring them inside but I can’t do that. They have been flowering for almost 8 weeks now.You aren't in the best situation but it is what it is. By the way, what happened is because of your humid weather. Those colder nights hitting the dew point. Keeping them dry at this stage should be your #1 priority. As for this crop and cutting early? That's your call. I'm going to guess they've been flowering 6 weeks at most and are still a couple of weeks from maturity.
Next year, look into some of the high THC auto-flowers. If you start them in May, you'll be harvesting them in August. You'll beat the fall weather.
I wouldn't want to bring outdoor plants inside anyway. You could very quickly have an outdoor problem ... inside. At any rate, if you can post trichome pictures, we can tell you how close you are. You might get lucky. There's a number of cultivars that finish in 8-9 weeksGood idea! A friend told me to bring them inside but I can’t do that. They have been flowering for almost 8 weeks now.
I’ll try and take some pics tomorrow. Thanks so much! I appreciate the help.I wouldn't want to bring outdoor plants inside anyway. You could very quickly have an outdoor problem ... inside. I have 8 plants so there are 8 trichome pics. I tried to get as close as possible.I wouldn't want to bring outdoor plants inside anyway. You could very quickly have an outdoor problem ... inside. Pulling early results in lower yield, potency, and terpenes.I have 8 plants so there are 8 trichome pics. I tried to get as close as possible.
I plan to harvest on Tuesday as that’s the latest possible day I can do it.
My only other option if any aren’t even close is to have my son do it when he is home 10/11. But he has less of a clue than I do, so there’s that lol
What’s the worst part if I pull them a little too early?
I thought milky trichomes were desired?Pulling early results in lower yield, potency, and terpenes.
It is better than the result of bud rot throughout the entire plant, which is total loss.
Were you going for a head high or body high? Body high is unlikely since you won't have many amber trichomes, but head high still possible for sure.
The milky to amber ratio is all personal preference.I thought milky trichomes were desired?
Those buds look good. Milky is good. Milky with maybe even a few scattered amber ones. Too much Amber and you're past the optimal point, at least for THC levels.I thought milky trichomes were desired?
I went out with a black light tonight and couldn’t find any caterpillars. I’m finding that hard to believe! I pulled 10 off between yesterday and today. Have you had any caterpillars ?You will be fine. I broke off a couple of buds last week. Dried em and smoked em. All good. You will have a good harvest. It is what it is
