Hello! I live on the east end of Long Island. Lately the nights are cool but most days are warmer. My plants are in pretty direct sun. I know I had spots on 2 plants. I keep cutting them off but they return fast!
My question is- are they almost ready to dry? I’m leaving next week for 2 weeks and the timing seems to be when my plants will be ready. Or can I let them ride for 3 more weeks?
How much of the infected plant is too much to cut? I usually just go at it until I have had enough.
Thanks in advance. I got grove bags for curing. Hopefully that will make the process easier.
Oh! And water? My plants get pretty droopy without water so I water them a little every day or every other. Is that too much?

Hello there my friend,
Yeah id most definitely pull her and harvest what I could ,no since in letting her rot and freeze.A good dry and month long cure and you will still have some decent smoke.hope this helps, sincerely kyfarmerb1984

Howdy , fellow east ender. It’s a skinny island, everyone knows everyone. My plants need another 2-3 weeks. Found my first little bud rot last week. That dry east wind we had was great. This warm rainy weather ain’t good. It’s a judgment call. I wouldn’t leave them at this time of year for sure. You could come back to a bunch of bud rot. I’m between shampton and bhampton.

Thanks! I’m in Sag. If I pull it today I only have a week to dry. I’m in quite a pickle!! Or I can cut the rot away monitor and pull it next week then it would dry for 2 weeks but I wouldn’t be able to monitor that either.

Cut the rot away and pull it next week, that’s my advice. This time of year is murder. Rain today tomorrow and Friday, just what we don’t need. WM for the win!

If I pull next week it will dry untouched for 2 full weeks. I’m away 10/2-10/16. I feel like im
In a lose lose here lol

No, you’ll get your weed. Get back clean it and cure it. Beats rotting buds or weaker weed.
So drying for 2 full weeks will be better option? I think that’s what you’re saying. I’ll go cut away the rot today and pull jt next week to dry. Thanks!!

👍 I’m sure some won’t agree, but I’ve been living the east end weather to know better.
I asked a local grower yesterday and he recommended bringing them inside because of the humidity. But I can’t do that. Some are 8 ft tall

Pluck out that rot! Mine are all in the ground. Had a friend bring his in once, started to mold up worse.

Do you have any way to automate your drying process while away?

A tent, an inkbird humidity controller, and an exhaust fan are usually enough. Inkbird reads high humidity and turns on the exhaust fan until humidity levels are good again. What humidity to maintain depends on the temperature you can maintain.

If you have no way to automate, hanging in a larger room will help maintain a more consistent temp/humidity range while you are away. Start in a room with lower humidity and the wet plants will slowly increase it while you are away.

I was planning to dry it in a room in basement that has a dehumidifier running. I do have someone who can check on the levels but wouldn’t be able to help with anything else. I have the herb drying racks to use but I guess I need a few more.
I hunted through all my plants today and removed any rot I could see and then I found a few caterpillars. I ordered Bt today it’ll be here tomorrow. I have a feeling they are helping the rot along. I never saw any before today.

Basement room with dehumidifier will definitely do well. With someone to check things, even better. With a video call you are basically checking it yourself. 😁

Your plants should be fine for 2 weeks in that scenario. In fact, if you can make that hang dry last the whole 2 weeks, slowly dropping the moisture content of the buds, you will have a much better product in the end.

If u want to extend your drying time, don't trim anything. ( Rot removed ), and hang the whole plant. Or branches, if your growing trees n bushes like some have growing, here.👍

The plants are just too big for me to do that. I can hang some branches for sure but I couldn’t even get the whole plant into the house haha

Perfect. I’m slightly less worried now!
